Cynthia at the drive-through was so nice. We placed our order and had to go get cash no credit cards ! be sure to bring CASH . Everything is good on the menu. It's a must try. My first visit after 2 years, I was just hoping they were still open. Thankfully they are but only for drive-thru. The menu has been reduced, gone is the world's best tortilla soup. But my Carne Guisada Gordita is still available and just as amazing as ever. Photo of the new menu with new hours attached. The folks working here were very nice, same faces as I saw in the past. We brought home chicken tortilla soup and they sent diced avocado and shredded cheese and also tortilla chips for us to put in after we warmed it up. Five star gorditas! Five star staff! My husband tried gorditas for the the very first time and this was the best place in the Lone Star Texas to try them! Come before noon or you might not find a table due to the big lunch crowd! I had a nopalito gordita and my husband had a carne guisada gordita-both delicious, hot, and fresh! We also shared a hot capirotada sprinkled with cheese for dessert. It is a Mexican bread pudding that oozed with pure goodness! This unassuming little covered patio in Uvalde has the best gorditas and chicken tortilla soup I've ever had! You can tell that everything is completely fresh and homemade, and they don't cut corners. I love Mexican food, but frequently feel that it's too heavy for lunch. I could eat this tortilla soup everyday and I'm going to make a point of trying every one of their gorditas at some point. Definitely try the steak ranchero if you like things on the spicy side. Atmosphere is quintessential for a little place like this, so don't be dismayed by the outside it's just a pier and beam building with wood siding. I've been to places that we're gorgeous on the outside and the food was no better - everything is just more expensive and you're paying for their stucco and ceramic tile roof, not the food. Everyone raves about this place, but...Um, no thanks. The wife and I pulled into the drive thru one afternoon. I had been there once before. That time the gorditas were alright but nothing to write home about. But' the day the missus and I pulled thru, a man came to the window eating. He said they were out of an ingredient crucial to the order we had placed, so we had to choose again. We did. Still eating, the man steps back to flop our food into styrafoam containers. Did I mention that he never put down his burrito. Anyway, as he was closing up the boxes, both of us witnessed food fall from his porn star mustache and in to our lunch.
