While in town for a college visit with our son, we walked from our hotel down to The Vault for dinner. We have a restaurant locally (in Southern Illinois) with the same concept and name. It's also located inside of an old bank, so we wanted to check this one out. We were seated immediately and received great service. The waitress was new, but already familiar with the menu. She made recommendations and was very attentive. We started with the pretzel and I can't wait for you to see the photo of how huge this thing is! We all three ate some of it, and there was enough for two people left once we were all done. It's massive! For the entree, I had the chicken quesadillas, my husband had the salmon bowl, and my son had the French dip. I was recently in the area and was able to grab dinner at the Vault. It's located in the old German bank, so the decor is really neat. It's right in the downtown area, so it's perfect for dinner before a show or casino visit. They have a nice selection of sandwiches, pastas, and entrees. I got the California Burger with grilled chicken and truffle fries. All very tasty. We also shared some cheese curds which were amazing! We devoured those. They come with ranch of course and a Melba sauce which was unique. It gave a good sweet and salty mix with the curds. The service was also quick and friendly. Fabulous service and the Signature drinks were worth the visit! The filet was a bit tough and a bit under cooked for my preference. It also had no char in it, seeming more like a boiled steak. Strange. The cheese curds are fabulous, tasty, melty and delicious! The NY Rib-eye was a bit more fatty than we like as well, and a bit chewy. The asparagus was good but they were an olive green color from being over cooked. They did indicate there was a new chef so maybe that contributed. I'd say stay clear of the steaks for now but there is so much more on the menu. We were the only party when we arrived but it was packed when we left! I was disappointed that there were only 2 dessert choices and after hearing what they were, I wonder if they aren't a frozen dessert they get and defrost. It was 'okay' but only that. Our valentines dinner was a huge success. Servers were busy but they did a great job managing tables needs and exceeding expectations. My first impression was how elegant the decor was. Our waiter, Eric, was attentive and offered great suggestions for our meal. My husband had the walleye with tortellini soup and sweet potato fries. Staff seemed super nice, down to earth and genuine. Had chicken and waffle sandwich and gnocchi. Waffles were soft and soggy, chicken was overdone, flavor was ok, just felt like had been sitting awhile. Gnocchi was ok, had some raw flour taste to it. Highly recommend! I was in Dubuque for a work trip and my experience was so great that I had to go back for a second time. There is free parking across the street (after 5pm and on the weekends) and inside the restaurant has a classy feel to it without being overly fancy. The first visit, I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich which was perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and spicy with a hint of sweet - my favorite! The ambiance was chill but the place was also incredibly clean with a bit of an upscale look. It's a nice mix cause you can either dress up or go in sweats. The service was nice and the food came pretty quickly. The food itself was great! The jalapeño poppers were amazing!!! Not like the traditional poppers that have a full piece of jalapeño but rather have all aspects of it in a fried shell. With raspberry jam and ranch they were great! What a great, new addition to Main Street Dubuque. Came for dinner with another couple last night and they gave us excellent service. Our waitress was super attentive, got our drink and food to us quickly and we even had what I'm guessing was the owner or restaurant manager check in on us too. I had an insanely good Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese that comes with bacon and a side of jam. The sandwich had a really nice kick of spicy and the jam on the side was a sweet addition. My boyfriend ordered a pork chop I believe and he had plenty leftover to take home with him. His friend ordered the French Dip and inhaled the entire plate. I also really enjoyed my cocktail - The White Lady. Not a fan of the name of the drink, but the drink itself was great. It was gin, some citrus and creamy foam on top served straight up in a very elegant martini glass. Good ambiance with fun music, plenty of seating. Give this new restaurant a try! read more

Most of the meal was nice. Ordered a steak salad for dinner. Probably had less than a half ounce of protein plopped on top. Our meal took a very long time in first place. Shame on the Vault! Three things I can share out from our experience tonight. 1. This is NOT a cocktail bar. Sure they have a lovely sounding menu of drinks... but they are all poorly crafted and prepared--syrupy sweet gloopy messes. We tried three and all were utter disappointments. All three should have been mixed in a shaker-- not once while dining did we ever hear the bartenders use their shakers! Lame. So if craft cocktails is part of your night... look elsewhere. 2, We tried two different burgers. Cooked well but lacked seasoning. But the worst part... the buns came un toasted (like right out of a bag) and so both were already soaked with juices from the burgers they were on. I had to flip mine over because the bottom was falling apart by the second bite. Flavor was "meh". 3. The server was nice and friendly and quick to listen and help out. Her level of attention was spot on. Maybe just an off night? But based on our experience,I can't recommend this restaurant to others. And unless you like premade sugar syrups, stay away from the cocktails. read more

My second time going was one of the most unpleasant, down right bullying type behavior by their staff. We have an older French bulldog who was my faithful service dog for years. I have valid paperwork from a medical Doctor. We were seated, and after only a few minutes we were informed by a male workers( the manager on duty was-having him do their/her dirty work) someone one was allergic to dogs. This after we already placed our order for beverages. Even though it's against the law to ask for paperwork,related to the above i had a copy on my phone from my Doctor. The young man requesting proof said that it was more support than service. We were asked to leave! As we were leaving a manager was laughing at us. Believe me I would not eat there if it were free! A couple of weeks ago the vault's website and yelp listed dog friendly ( I did not know they even had a patio). It should have been addressed by th hostess before we were seated and humiliated. If the manager on duty would have checked reservation from open table ,you would have saw that I was bringing my service dog. It was like a soft opening. The staff except the new waitress had bad vibes, and low energy nothing like my experience a couple months ago. All I know two weeks ago both yelp and google listed vault dog friendly. The food was fine. My mom had a huge pulled pork sandwich that she ate for two days; so there's your money's worth. It was a packed house so we had a drink at the bar and were seated within 10 minutes of arriving. Our waiter promptly took our order and another few minutes wait and we were all set. It was a bit loud; I think the ceilings were high so sound bounced a bit but it was pleasant and convivial. Prices were great. I'd go back if I found myself in Dubuque again. read more

Crab stuffed mushrooms and jalapeño poppers are not what you would think - they are made as large balls and deep fried, good but not great, a bit heavy. Vodka Penne with shrimp was tasty.
