My dad lived at the Townehouse for 10 months. We picked the Townehouse as our family has lived here in Ventura for over 57 years and my brother worked at the Townehouse in high school in the 70's. We thought it had a great reputation. Boy, was I wrong. I agree with Bob F. and he wrote his review 7 years ago. The administration, especially Evan and Johnathon, tell you what you want to hear. I just found out that Johnathon is the owner's son, so that really tells you they don't care. If you do not have an advocate checking on your loved one, you had better get one. My dad was in memory care due to his Parkinson's. James, who runs Memory Care, and his staff try their best to help when problems come up, but they are extremely understaffed. When I went to Evan and Johnathon to complain about it a few times I got nowhere. I even told Evan he should go help change briefs as that is what James does to help out. My dad passed away 3 weeks ago and I have yet to get a call, card, or any condolence from the Townehouse. The staff at Memory Care showed our family much sympathy, but to get nothing from the Townehouse management is an utter disgrace. read more

My grandmother lived here independently in the early 2000s and my mother lives in memory care in 2025. For decades Ventura Townehouse has provided the most beautiful, warm, and social environment, exceptionally managed by five star professionals who go above and beyond. The main independent living areas have a resort vibe and the dining room and grounds are gorgeous. Memory care is the loveliest I've seen in California. Every room has its own front patio entrance. The memory care community house is a hub of constant activity and has a delightful large patio and lawn area where there are holiday events with live music. My husband and I enjoy sitting outside and talking with the memory care residents. It feels like a real home and a real family. Everyone seems as content as possible. It is Much Better if you can maintain your Independence! At Guesthouse/Asylum... (Be prepared to Downsize into 800 sq. ft . 'living area'@ $5,000. per month!). Food Service is "marginal" at Best, be prepared to wait up to One Hour to even place meal order ...If you're even allowed into the dining area; quality of ' some meals' needs help (several tires short of Michelin). read more

If a ten star rating was an option, the Townhouse would top my top ten! I've been blessed to live here for a glorious month and I simply can't adequately describe how wonderful it's been. Disneyland has stiff competition for the proverbial happiest place on Earth. "Life in a cruise ship on land!" just might come close. Three meals daily served in either the large lovely dining room, delightful outdoor settings, your own apartment or "to go" include numerous menu choices for every meal. No paper tablecloths or napkins allowed, only crisp white linens and gorgeous fresh flowers on every table. For example, today's lunch options offered three delightful soups; assorted greens garden salad; fresh fruit salad; chicken and cheese casserole with roasted cauliflower; breaded baked pork chops in a creamy herbed sauce, OR a delightful vegetarian option. The dessert options are, unfortunately, far too delicious, plentiful and include six varieties of ice cream. Baked potatoes and wine or beer are offered daily after 4:00 pm. And speaking of "after 4:00 pm"?, this place LOVES to parTEE! Whether the every-Wednesday afternoon wine & cheese social, a holiday or even a pseudo-holiday, they roll up the carpets, tune up live band performances and dance the night (well, actually only the afternoon) away! After all, this IS a senior living center. There is also fantastic entertainment daily, including soloists or duos or small bands, and usually the first sound you'll hear when entering the lobby is the ivories' tinkling from the foyer grand piano. There are seemingly endless activities daily from cards to games and just about everything in between; group outings to the beach or museums or local attractions, and individual transportation in the Townhouse limo or van is almost always available. Just call ahead for a ride to medical appointments, church service, shopping trips, or whatever your heart's desire within Ventura. "Whatever your heart's desire" is made possible by the truly amazing, wonderful staff members you'll encounter everywhere. Often unobtrusive, one or more seem to pop up at your (virtual) first thought and they really seem to enjoy serving us all as much as we enjoy having them. Very open, friendly and generous, always eager to offer suggestions and ideas! Have I forgotten anything? Whoops, the barber shop or hair salon....manicurist/pedicurist .....loaded gym equipment in the basement area, or fantastic ocean and mountain views from the top, seventh floor group function areas and spacious balconies ? My mom has been at the townhouse for over two years. I just moved her to memory care and was very nervous about it. I talked with James the Director of memory care and he explained the activities and care the residents receive. I have been extremely happy with the care and all the activities my mom has been receiving. James is constantly involved with all the residents. James instructs a exercise class to all levels,they have cooking classes and outside entertainment. It is so wonderful to see my mom singing,laughing and having fun with others. I have been a resident here since December 2022. I have resided in many different facilities in many parts of this country and I can attest to the fact that the Townehouse is a well-run, caring, fun place to live. The Townehouse is owned by a local resident who is on site most days. At no time did sales staff attempt to up sell. I shared my needs, and we came up with a plan. Front desk is staffed with knowledgeable folks who are often called upon by residents for help with our smart phones. Care staff is just a phone call away. We have activities galore, sometimes more than one activity at the same time. The dining staff works hard to please us. Bryan serves salmon that Red Lobster would be proud to serve. The off menu is extensive, and if I cannot find something that appeals to me then I am not hungry. I have a view of Catalina Island from my balcony. And to finish this review, the cost to reside here is comparable to local facilities that offer much less and cost even more. I tell people that living here is like being on a cruise ship that doesn't move. read more

The memory care facility is horrible. The staff do not monitor your loved ones closely, including the nursing staff. I do not recommend this facility for memory impaired relatives. They failed miserably during Covid, neglecting our family members, and leaving them lay in a hospital bed for for 4 months. There were no visits allowed due to Covid starting in March and ending in July. Never informed us timely of serious health changes with two family members, including ulcers at stage four and unfortunately to the bone. This resulted in 2 deaths in our family in the last 45 days. Devastating that this facility thinks they did an acceptable job. Check on your loved ones daily. Think twice before leaving your family member here. The sad truth! read more

Mom's been at the Townhouses now for a year. She absolutely LOVES it and so do we. Jim who is the kitchen manager holds the most amazing holiday parties with 5 star food quality and service. The place is always beautifully decorated. The musical program is so fun. I give it 6 stars! read more

My Grandmother has resided here in the independent living facility for several years. Every time I visit with her she speaks of the events they are having at her home and/or how hard the staff is working for them all. As her family, we have the peace of mind that if she doesn't show up (or call in) for breakfast a staff member comes to check on her well being. When she did have a medical issue, they did work with us in every way possible so she could get care. This is one of the most caring, lively adult living areas I have seen that is not completely independent. read more

My elderly mother has been at this facility for almost one year. The administration gives you a lot of attention when you are considering them, but once you sign that contract things fall apart. Be careful to review the various levels of care before signing the contract and ensure you really need what they are trying to sell you. I believe the term is "up sell" and they will try to do that. We pay for assisted package 4 and the staff does not consistently provide according to terms of service. My mother and other residents complain about the food. And I tried it on a few occasions and I would not eat there if I had a choice. They keep the grounds clean and many staff try to be helpful, but they seem to be understaffed. They put on a good show for visiting family especially during holiday season. If you spend any time there... you will find it's a business and it feels like one. If possible talk to some of the residents before signing a contract. Make sure you check all of your other options before settling here. read more
