I've never had a bad experience at this bakery! It's always worth the wait and they have so many options of sweets and savouries you can spend an hour or more in this place if you have the time. All right so I came here on a weekday around lunchtime and there was still a lot of baked goods left. This is not the case if you go on a weekend later on in the afternoon because last time I came it was near 3 pm and I didn't get to try much. While they are famous for their longjohns which are like chocolate eclairs with whip cream and also famous for their apple fritters there is so much more available in the shop. They have whole cakes rectangular individual cakes cupcakes donuts different types of butter tarts cookies short brands turnover a variety of bread and rolls meat pies and sausages etc.. prices were really good and everything is super fresh. Seriously I got nine items and I came out to be around $18. Besides the bake shop they also have a variety of cheese and cured meat as well as frozen meat pies sausage rolls sausages variety of British foods and snacks and some giftware. A friendly little shop with British, German & Dutch groceries. They are famous for their apple fritters but they sell out fast. If you want to try then you have to go early. The staff are very nice. Ahhh this is a hidden gem !!! The cupcakes are to die for ! They sell deli , polish snacks such as cookies , chips and candy here as well as bread and lots and lots of delicious desserts/ pastries! Super happy I found this place , we got the Portuguese tarts , Blondie and Salted Caramel White Chocolate cupcake ! The bf loved the Portuguese tart , it was just the right consistency! I personally loved the cupcake , typically most cupcakes are too heavy and sweet for me but this one was very light and fluffy and not too sweet, the frosting was also surprisingly very light ..it kept me wanting MORE after I finished ! 100% recommend this dessert shop!! 4.5 stars. Oh where have all the good donuts gone? I think I have finally found a delicious wholesome donut place. The Village Bake Shop in Whitby that all started in 1979. What can I say, everything hits right for me. Honestly 10/10 on flavor, size, freshness, level of sweetness. Oh and wonderful service, super speedy and nice! We got the Sugar powdered long johns and chocolate ones aka eclairs. This one's a must if you go. Apple fritters are what they're known for All the jelly filled donuts (insert Homers drooling happy face) again so good! Lemon squares! Salivating just thinking about this. If you are a lemon squares fan you can't miss out on this one. We finished 12 pastries and donuts between the two of us in 2 days and we still wish we had gotten more. We live a fair bit a way and already are making plans to visit again. Anyways just wanted to share our love for this place and hope others will give it a try. read more

We stopped by for the Apple fritters. Sadly they were already sold out. If you are interested in trying one please consider getting here at 10:00 am or shortly there after. As a fall back we sampled some of the cookies and tasty treats. The peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies were decent. The oatmeal is certainly not Dad's cookies and very dry. Of the others we sampled the German Brownie (good) the Butter-tart squares (it tasted like there were dates in the filling) and the lemon macaroon squares (very good). This is my favourite place to grab lunch for work! Everything I've ever tasted including sandwiches, soup, baked goods and cake has been delicious. The family that owns it and the staff are all super friendly, it's a very homey place. We've ordered their cakes for work events many times and they're always fantastic. I know many people who regularly take home sliced meat and cheese from their deli. They've got a huge assortment of Dutch foods as well! read more

The Village Bake on Center Street in Lewiston just lost my business. I had asked my husband to get me Buckeyes from here for my birthday. He called yesterday to order some and was told they would be ready after 3 pm. So he goes to get some at 3- nope now they won't be there until 3 pm today. The manager promised him 3 times they will be there at 3 today. And nope still not there when he showed up. The thing is that she could have made this right by offering him a percentage off when they do come in or a coupon or literally anything to keep my business. I understand when shipment doesn't come in. Instead she thought it a good idea to keep wasting our time. So I will not frequent them anymore. Do not go to the Village Bake Shop if you value customer service. This place does not care about its customers. read more

Went to New York for a wedding and the cupcakes for the reception were from The Village Bake Shop! They were AMAZING!!!! Everyone was raving about them. Loved the dusting of Rose Gold on the frosting!!! Would love to come and check this out next time I'm in town! read more

4.5 stars. Visited here after a very enthusiastic review from our server at Griffon Gastropub in Niagara Falls. Lewiston is a lovely town and a great base to visit the area. And the Bake Shoppe is baked goods nirvana for those who love dessert. The selection of cakes, cookies, pie, scones, etc is truly Wonka-esque. It will have your head spinning. In a good way. Pictures could not do justice to the astounding variety of items available. This doesn't even include anything savory for lunch which we did not try this visit. Our order today consisted of six items, most of which hit it out of the ballpark. My opinions- Cowboy Cookie-while the staff member who helped us claimed this was "the world's best cookie", it didn't reach that status but was definitely an outstanding item. Chocolate, nuts, coconut and some things I'm surely forgetting made a delicious cookie. Berry Scone-another great item. Baked perfectly, not dry, lots of fresh tasting berries. A big hit. Walnut brownie-wish we had ordered more of these. Moist, not too dense, full chocolate flavor and a nice crispy edge. I love brownies and this was really really good. Blueberry hand pie-I think they call them Pockets here. While to my taste the filling could have been sweeter, this blows away any famous store bought hand pie you've ever tried. Packed with real berry filling and blueberry flavor. The crust was perfect. Banana Bread-large slice of delicious, moist bread here. Just the right proportion of nuts. To my taste, it was a little light on banana flavor compared to some I've had. Still ate every bite. Chocolate Raspberry cake in a cup-the only item resembling a miss for us. While it looked delicious the cake portion was quite dry and totally overwhelmed by the abundance of raspberry frosting. It was tasty but just too much. Many flavors of these to choose from so a different one may yield a different opinion. Hard to imagine a bakery anywhere doing the job they do here of turning out this much delicious looking product. They do a large quantity of custom orders also i am told. Wish I lived nearby or had a place near home that remotely resembled this hall of fame worthy bake shoppe. Best bakery around. We have been going to their Orono location since I was a child. The Whitby location is amazing as well. Friendly staff and amazing food. The frosting is the best on their cakes not at all sweet just perfect. Great selection of meats and cheeses and of course all the goodies from Holland. 5 star for sure. If you haven't you must go. This bakeshop opened about a year ago however, I didn't hear about it til a couple of months ago and made my first visit. If you like British goods and all things good from Holland this is the bakery for you. It is a family run business and very friendly and accommodating. Their selection of baked goods is eye-popping!! Every thing from homemade truffles and fudge to jelly donuts...not like the airy donuts of today but the good yeasty donuts you had as a child. The bread is freshly baked with many varieties to choose from. They have a deli counter, meat pies and sausage rolls...and lots of great British and Dutch sweets, jams and even gift items!!!
