The lemon curd is to die for, and properly made. If you're a Nutella fan, they've got your Nutella doughnut and squares cravings covered. It says that if you want a full dozen, that you should call in...but maybe that's if you want a full dozen of one flavour? Either way, I stopped by around 1pm on a Thursday and was happy to see that there were still many donuts of all flavours to choose from. Maybe it was my lucky day! I got a dozen donuts made up of: Tutti Fruitti, PB & J, Pecan Cinnamon Bun, Red Velvet, Birthday Cake, & Sea Salt Caramel Maple Bacon. Wow. I got to try a taste of all of them, and it was hard to pick a fave! I'd have to go with the Red Velvet since I'm a sucker for cream cheese icing. The donuts themselves were light and tasty, and just SO different than the garb donuts you get at Tim Horton's! These were a treat indeed. I personally like sweet things however even for me these were way to sweet. My coworkers all thought the same too. The donuts looked really good and I like the shot of various flavours. I dropped by on a Saturday afternoon to check out this place. It was pretty crowded with a lot of locals stopping in for a snack. I had the strawberry/chocolate donut with a cup of coffee. For the price point, this donut does justice as it is pretty dense with sugary goodness. I like the layout of this little shop; there's a few tables in the back along with a counter seating area in the front. These are the BEST donuts in Toronto! We visited this cute bakery just to try their donuts and it not only lived up to my expectations but exceeded them. We also ordered one of their sugar cookies which was good but it was definitely the donuts that stole the show. The donuts were very soft and airy but also packed a lot of flavour. I especially loved how many different and unique flavour combinations they had. My personal favourite was the Blueberry Cheesecake as the cheesecake filling was wonderfully rich but not overly sweet. I've tried their doughnuts plenty of times before and they are okay, not the best in the city, but also not the worst, could've been a 3-star review if not for trying their birthday cake. My sister had ordered their birthday cake and it looked kind of sloppy for a birthday cake, but I was still hopeful it would be delicious because it's a "birthday cake" cake, vanilla with sprinkles. Sadly for us, it was WAY too sweet, and don't get me wrong, I enjoy sweet things, but this was over the top. Also, it tasted really familiar and then it hit me, it tastes exactly like cake mix from a box, EXACTLY, but the taste of the cake wasn't that offensive given I'm accustomed to using cake mix now and then at home. It was the frosting paired with the price tag, definitely not worth it. The frosting tasted like frosting from a jar but with added white granular sugar to stiffen it, and you can feel the graininess of it all. We bought a chocolate cake from here the other day. It looked ok, but it was terrible. The icing was totally tasteless, it was fatty like it has lots of some kind of fat but really unappealing. The cake itself was heavy and dense. I make a way better cake myself and could have done it if I had the time, but instead I paid $48 for this. I reckon you'd be better to go to loblaws and grab a cheap and cheerful one for a fraction of the cost. I got Iced tea, which was Peach Iced tea. It was so good. They had upstairs and they had pretty good space to eat in. They have nice tables and seats. Even though the Rolling Pin is far from my home, its the closest to a good yeast donut I can find. I happened to pop by on Tuesday, and the 6 donuts they had available were custard bomb, nutella bomb, birthday cake, lemon meringue, blueberry powder, and hot chocolate. I also grabbed a ginger molasses cookie to snack on while in the car. The cookie was just ok. Nice size, and a good chewy cookie overall, but it was missing some ginger flavour. It could have had more. Now to the donuts. I found the non filled donuts (birthday cake and hot chocolate) to be nothing special. It was a bit plain/bland, even though there were toppings on the top of the donut. So in the future, i wouldn't get those kinds anymore. But the filled ones were great. My favourite was the custard bomb, followed by blueberry, nutella, and lemon meringue. Usually I love anything lemon meringue, but this time the filling tasted kind of commercial/fake. Just a few tips on the location. There is a Green P parking behind the building and note that if you want certain donuts make an order in advance and pick up, otherwise it's first come first serve. Taken this was our first time going and we didn't know about the first come first serve. We were lucky enough to get the last batch of the Canoli Donut (released that day) and the Oreo Cheesecake. We got a half dozen which costed us $18 flat. Our half dozen consisted of 2 Canoli Donuts, 2 Oreo Cheesecake Donuts, 1 Brûléed Key Lime Donut and 1 Banana Caramel Cornflake Donut. Canoli Donut- it was really good and thick. It had a whole Canoli and topped with chocolate chips Oreo Cheesecake Donut- the best donut we got in my opinion. It had a syringe filled with Chocolate and cheesecake filling inside Brûléed Key Lime Donut- not much of a fan of keylime pies but this donut did it well. Either way I thought it was okay Banana Caramel Cornflake Donut- really liked this donut. All the textures worked well and just the dough itself was good. Either I didn't look at their hours properly or they were closed for no reason when I went. I finally made it and I ordered a cookies and cream donut with the syringe in it. It tasted like the donut has been sitting there overnight (almost stale). The syringe was a gimmick (which I knew going in) but it really serves no purpose (except to maybe soften up the donut because it tasted stale). Located near Yonge and Lawrence, my wife picked some up after work to try so this review is for take out as I personally didn't go into the store. 6 donuts costs about $24 so $4 each. Pretty premium fare but these are not your average Timbits! Large sized donuts that come in some pretty cool flavours such as tiramisu, creme brulee and cookies and cream. Some of the flavours comes with these little neat flavour pipettes which contains certain flavours such as melted chocolate, coffee, etc.. Most of the flavours were pretty good and definitely had the flavour of what was advertised. It looked so simple, but it was so scrumptious. Full disclosure, I bought two more donuts intending to freeze them for another date, but I did taste them first. I found them good but too sweet for my liking, which is weird because lemonade and tequila lime are not usually that sweet. This bakery shop featuring goumet donuts can be found in the suburbs outside Toronto. The inside has modern decor with lots of seating. Available is freshly baked items including cookies, pastries and most importantly gourmet donuts. The donuts are on average about $3 each. I got to taste the Elvis, tiramisu, and the Nutella Bomb, the cherry donut and the cannoli. Now let's break down the donuts... Elvis: a yeast donut with peanut butter flavored icing and pieces of bacon. The bacon was an unwanted surprise considering I don't eat it ....but I guess some people like that kind of thing. The tiramisu was a Boston cream kind of donut, with whip cream on top, a little squirt vial of espresso or something. It was kind of cool as a novelty. But at the end of the day it didn't really taste like tiramisu. When I bit into it, the cream inside squirted out and left a big glob on my blouse!!! Not good!!! Luckily I had a shawl to cover it all day at work. It was a huge mess with every bite. This is not how you fill a donut. The new Nutella bomb was like an Italian donut (yeast donut, sugar coated) with Nutella injected inside. I would skip it. The Cherry Donut: I usually don't like jelly filled, but this was sooooooo good. You gotta get it. Beautiful looking too! The Cannoli: kinda tasted like a cannoli. But wouldn't recommend it. Good idea but it was nothing exciting. They have a doughnut schedule which is nice but there isn't that much exciting variety. There's a lot of overlap between the days. My friends and I had been planning for weeks to satisfy our donuts and coffee craving and we finally decided on The Rolling Pin. This is definitely THE place for donuts in Toronto. They change their selection every day and always have different "shot" donuts (donut with a syringe filled with flavor) on rotation as well as a mysterious ~chef special~ donut. Looking at the donuts in the glass display, we decided to order half a dozen to try between the three of us (the portions were huge!). We came on a Tuesday, so we were able to sample the Boston Cream, Chocolate Salted Caramel (shot donut), Custard Bomb, Nutella Bomb, PB&Jelly, and Tiramisu. We also got a selection of coffee, latte, and tea (their tea is from a local store -- Pluck!) The Boston Cream was probably one of the best that I've ever had and I also enjoyed the novelty of the shot donut (though it didn't taste any more spectacular than a regular salted caramel donut). I personally thought the PB&Jelly was too heavy on the PB and the Nutella Bomb lacked any dimension in flavor. However, they were all quite delicious and satisfied each of our cravings. I suspect that maybe this review is because of the unreasonably long build-up I had to trying Rolling Pin donuts. I remember the first time I saw one of their donuts. My mouth was watering and even though I didn't have the chance to try one then, I wrote down the name and it would be the first suggestion I made whenever we were arguing over where to get a sugar fix. Then the perfect opportunity came and I bought 6 of them as dessert for a get-together. Blueberry Cheesecake, Chocolate Salted Caramel, PB and Jelly and Nutella Bomb! I know, I know, this is a bakery that specializes in donuts but not being a huge fan of donuts and fried pastries in general, and after reading some of the reviews, I decided to avoid the disappointment and stick with my initial objective: the creme egg brownie. If you like creme eggs and they gooey filling, you will like this brownie. They've somehow managed to mimick it and slather it on top of a brownie. You should know that this brownie is very sweet so if super sweet is not your jam, move along. I also ended up getting the Cadbury Easter egg brownie and I'm not sure if they use the Easter eggs in the brownie itself or just crack them and put them on top but it was good. Not mind blowing good, but good. This place is not close so I probably won't be making the trip very often. If someone manages to convince me that the donuts are worth it, I may give them a try.
