Bigg Smoak BBQ - Bigg Q with brisket, Texas beef link, deluxe mac n cheese.

There's no better place to grab some bbq than Bigg Smoak whenever you're in Steinbach…read more This place is pretty popular but luckily there's tons of parking. They have an extensive menu of all things BBQ. I opted to go for the Family Feast. I wanted to try everything. Ribs, brisket, chicken and sausage. Food was moist, tender and smokey. Great flavor throughout. I also enjoyed the onion rings and cole slaw. They really complemented the bbq. One of my favorite bbq places hands down.

+.5 for service This…read moreis your premier standard for BBQ restaurants in Manitoba. Your other true alternatives in the province aside from some food trucks are Famous Daves (not nearly as good) or Blue Haze (fine but questionable owners). The restaurant is busy for a reason; the food is that good. My standard order is usually the Bigg Q, though I go Little Q if I'm not that hungry because the portions are huge. Love the pulled pork here, and brisket's always the standard to order. I had the beef link in my most recent visit too, and I liked that as well. I always go with the deluxe mac n cheese for my side as I'm a mac n cheese fanatic. Service is excellent here, I actually left my jacket my last visit and they were so kind to allow one of my coworkers who lives in Steinbach to pick it up and give it back to me in the office. They didn't need to but I really appreciated what they did! Is it the best BBQ ever? I'm sure there are better options outside the province, but this is definitely top tier for Manitoba.

The best part about being on vacation is catching up on sleep while balancing visiting new places. On a Thursday, I had slept in until 2:30 pm! I was obviously tired. The sleep was needed. I needed a place to have breakfast or lunch... something! I did a search for eateries and found Viet House Restaurant. It was a three-minute drive from the hotel that I was staying at. Perfect! I got in my rental vehicle and drove over to the restaurant. There were lots of parking spots at around 4 pm. I backed into an available one and walked in. There were two female staffers who greeted me. Both were nice. I indicated that I was here to dine in and got a table facing the window. One of them women said that she liked my nails, which was sweet. I saw bubble tea on the menu. What caught my attention was seeing calamansi listed. It is rare to see that flavour, so I got it with coconut jelly. I ordered these items, as I was hungry: - Shrimp and pork belly fresh rolls (3) with peanut sauce - Number 14 - rare beef and beef balls pho - regular I asked the other woman taking my order how large the large pho was. She was great pointing at a male customer across from us eating from a large bowl. She also went to grab the regular and large bowls for me to look at. That's customer service! The large was massive. Had I not got the fresh rolls, I'd likely do the large. Instead, I went with the regular. I got water and my calamansi tea to start. The former was icy and refilled often. The latter was so good. It was tangy. The sweetness came from the coconut jelly that was perfect. My shrimp and pork belly fresh rolls had arrived. They came with peanut sauce. At first, the food that you get is deceptive. I thought that I got little protein. However, when you start eating them, you get a good portion of large shrimp and pork belly with vermicelli noodles and veggies. The veggies look like you aren't getting a lot of protein, but each roll has the perfect bite of everything. I loved this appetizer so much. It's probably because I have never had pork belly with shrimp in a fresh roll. The rolls were amazing, especially with the house-made peanut sauce. My regular rare beef and beef balls pho came out next. It is my go-to pho that I get at any pho place. Normally, I see bean sprouts, mint, and a lime wedge as being the accoutrements. This place scrapped the mint and went with parsley instead. It wasn't the parsley that folks either love or hate. This one seemed plain in taste. I put everything in my bowl of pho and squeezed the lime. I saw flakes on the surface of my pho broth. I wasn't sure if it was black pepper. It wasn't when I started mixing everything and enjoying my pho. I appreciated that it wasn't black pepper. The rare beef cooked quickly. Each slice was yummy and tender to eat. The surprising part was having my first beef ball. It was homemade. It was delicious. This place makes their own beef balls. Wow! I got plenty of noodles. They were perfect. I loved the green onion. The broth was so good that I drank it all up. I went up to the counter to pay. I got a rewards card for bubble tea. I actually came back a few days later on a Sunday to get a strawberry bubble tea with coconut jelly. It was so refreshing on a hot summer day. It was my last full day in Steinbach, so I took advantage of dropping by again. Both times, I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I used the washroom. I saw a room next door with a man quietly rolling beef balls. It was a labour of love. The washroom is a single stall. Clean. No issues at all. I loved finding this gem of a Vietnamese restaurant. Staff are friendly. Service is stellar. The food and bubble tea were fabulous. I'd returning when I'm back in the city. (299)

Was OK. Have had better. The deluxe vermicelli has chicken not pork. Not likely to return.read more
