Cute store! Selection was messy and not very organized but it was a vibe. I liked the amount of selection they had for alcohol.

This location does not serve food but has the best supply of spirits, beer and wine. They also have a wine discount aisle that you buy one full price and get another for a nickel...Also they have a 50% off liquor cart with great local choices for tequila, bourbon, whiskey and vodka! There are quite a few varied grocery supplies that are great for boaters who moor at the bay close by! Every aisle is easy to scan and is organized! It's a clean well stocked retail liquor store. This place should be flagged for running scams. We went there today based solely on yelp reviews since we are from out of town and wanted good craft beer. We got a bottle of Willet Rye, a six pack of Stone Pilsner and a six pack of Alpine Nelson which are all great. Problem being, when it was rang up, the cashier quickly moved through the credit card transaction and it came to something absurd. Upon questioning, he added a $15 credit card charge (no problem to do the standard 3%) and a $18+ tip which was not approved was on there. When confronted, he quickly handed $20 in cash back to us after saying he didn't know how to do a basic refund on a simple POS system. Look elsewhere, these guys are straight up crooks. Totally shady and avoid at all extreme costs. read more

The many places that when you travel across the United States you may find the many country stores and the many small like the convenience stores which can be like the smaller country stores that have the old white Ice box coolers and the floors that have the scent of days past. When you come to a place that has that feel it brings back the memories of the days that were of the 1950s and the 1970s when you could see the many brands that you like just as you come in the door and then some. There is one place when i had taken a trip out to the Point Loma Light House the way you have to travel is that you have to travel on two busses that the way you go is that you take the 28 Bus to the Marina Street and then you have to catch the 84 Bus that will take you to the light house. The day was getting pretty hot when I had returned back to the transfer point, I had seen the many stores they have in the ar.ea and the one that got my eye was the Village Store. I was looking at the place for the past two days, so I took the chance and went inside to check out the store when I went in it took me by surprise to see a spirit's store that had the feel of the 1970s.When you come to most liquor stores you see the many displays that advertise the many brands and the cooler numbers when they tell where your drinks are at. When I came in the cashier behind the counter greeted me and asked me what I can help you with I asked him is where do you keep your sodas, he said back in cooler 8 I walked to the back cooler the many coolers that were up front that were filled with the many brands of beer and the wines and the expensive bottles. When I got back to the sodas there were many of the brands that you would find in the many grocery's stores and the ones that came from the 711s stores. The favorite brands they had there was the tall can Coke Classic and to get a large Milkyway candy bar. The many liquors that I had seen in the store were of moonshine and the many brands of whiskeys that were of the southern brands, and many were of the Candian brands this was a store where you could find the ones you would need to have a great party. many brands of Moonshine that you may see. When you walk around inside the store you will feel the town home feel of t6hje store the wood paneling of the inside and the long size of the store that make it longer in size when you see from the outside it looks small in size when you come in you see allot more to the store than meets the eye. They take great pride in the brands they sell there is many that I have seen and there are many that are very expensive to be there in Point Loma great brands for a great for a great place to have a store. In closing as a Yelp Elite Reviewer that I wanted to close by saying that the store that I had visited was one place that in all my memories of the stores that I have been to this one has the best in service and the feel in being backwoods states that have stores where you would have to travel many miles. My husband and I walked into the store to buy lotto tickets and my husband went out to his car to grab his ID, when he walked back in the man at the register accused him of stealing a bag of chips for no reason. He said we weren't allowed back in here and we repeated that we never stole anything, keep in mind we had been in the store for less than a minute at this point. Stopped here to check out the selection of beer this past Wednesday. There was an older gentleman behind the counter Wed. morning, who hardly lifted his head to answer a question, but thankfully he was not around when I came back later in the day to spend $50 on beers. I would hate to hand him over my $, but everyone else working there were super nice and helpful. A real nice store filled with snacks, beer, wine and many, many bottles of liquor, including amazing selection of bourbon. Perfect spot to grab supplies during our stay on Shelter Island. read more

I think they were Iraqi Chaldean refugees (they were foreign and sold shirts supporting Iraqi Christians anyways). Conveniencies, necessities, amenities, items you may not even know you need or want...all can be found in the most convenient of all convenience stores: the Village Store. Liquor..lots of it. A wall of bottles from top to bottom should allow one to find a desired booze. Plus their reasonably priced gift sets of fancy elixirs have saved my forgetful a** in the past. Beers and wines a plenty plus more refrigerated doors than I have ever seen in one store containing just about any kind of anything requiring cooled temps. Forgot your fedora..Village Store has your head covered. This store is seriously stocked with stuff and smiling staff. I like it a lot! It's always awesome when the closest liquor store to your apartment is awesome. Plus, it looks like something out of the old west (complete with faux wood sidewalk) so n00bs always find a need to comment on it. Great selection of beers, and since it's tucked away in my 'hood, not many people know about it. (This place had the Stone Vertical Epic 07.07.07 in stock waaaaay longer than everyone else.) And there's a small selection of other necessary munchies there as well...including limes for wonderful Mexican beers. Hooray! I went into the store today to get a lotto ticket, the older guy behind the counter was the most unhelpful individual. I had not filled out a form in forever so went back to the counter to ask for help but the two workers were scanning product and could not be bothered by me. My brother worked at The Village Store in the 70's but obviously those owner's don't own it any longer. I will never go there again...worst customer service ever... read more

This store rocks. They not only have a great selection of beer and spirits, they have lots of stuff you may need in a pinch. I went in there one Thanksgiving and found twine for the turkey legs (for you turkey roasters). Lots of stuff you need that you may not even know they stock. On 8/10/2008 at approximately 1:30 pm I had the following terrible experience at The Village Store. I went inside to redeem a California Lottery ticket scratcher and buy 2 diet sodas. I went to the front and set the sodas down and the ticket. The ticket was worth a free ticket or you can redeem the ticket for cash. I asked the man (no nametag, older guy salt/pepper hair, thick dark eyebrows, probably an owner) was standing behind the counter. I explained that I wanted to redeem my scratcher for cash. He took the ticket from me and began to scratch the code off the ticket in a hurry. He said that that the rules of the Lottery are that you can only get 1 ticket for a free ticket redemption. I said no that's not correct you can have a free ticket or the cash value of the ticket. He ignored me. I said that I didn't think his assertion was correct (I had been playing the lottery and knew you can redeem the ticket for cash. I had even done it before at that store). I asked for the ticket back so I could read the rules on the back and show him. He refused. He scanned the ticket under the machine and said, "No, too late, I already scanned the ticket." I explained to him that I wanted cash value for the ticket and not another ticket and I wanted the ticket back so A) I could show him the rules and/or B go to a store that will redeem the ticket for cash. He refused to give me back the ticket and said he will not redeem it for the cash value. I said I am entitled to the cash value and he shouldn't be a liar by telling me I can't redeem the ticket for cash by rules of the lottery. He went into a rage and threw a dollar bill at me, snatched the 2 diet sodas I had on the counter and told me to get out of the store and he never wanted to see my face again. I told him I would report his fraud to the California lottery. The craziest part of this is that I used to patronize that store for years and have spend a lot of money in there. This is my first encounter with this man and when you commit fraud and are rude to local neighborhood patrons the owners only shoot themselves in the foot. Beware of this store, they are liars with the lottery and rude when you assert your rights. read more

Just flew in to town from up north and called at 5:00 thanksgiving day to check hours, they told me they were scheduled to close at that time but would stay open if we could be there soon! Got there and sure enough, great selection of wine and liquor for a small corner store and prices as reasonable as anywhere else! Will be back tomorrow! read more

The Village Liquor Store better known in our house as the greatest store on earth. Really can't say enough great things about this store. I have been going to this store for 15 years and have never had a bad experience there. I was a little worried when the new owners took over, when Bill retired, however Steve and family took over and made the store even better than before. I go to this store pretty much daily and they are all so welcoming and helpful. Steve is always willing to order anything you want if it isn't already there. They really treat me like family , yet they are very professional. I really enjoy talking to all of them and love the way they are such a tight knit family. They have made the store look amazing and have all kinds of new tasting opportunities . The Village Store has always been great and has only gotten better with the new owners . The entire family Chris , Steve , Nick and , the girls , are definitely a great part of the Point Loma community . read more

Under new ownership the store has been redone. They now have a great craft beer selection and rival near by liquor stores. New management have told me several times to let them know if they don't stock something that I want so that they can order it. Well run and well stocked. read more
