During our recent stay in OB for a couple of nights, I wandered up the street to Pat's; my mission-- to restock my hotel mini fridge with copious quantities of adult frosty beverages and a small assortment of snack treats and food stuffs... Pat's provides-- which is to say, they had the cold beer, the ice, and various chips and candy that the casual diet-cheater needs while on a mini-vacation. The store clerk offered that my purchase price--$19.68-- was the same year he moved from his home town in Iraq to the capital... a nice guy who entrusted me-- a total stranger-- with an honor's system hook up if I needed more ice and he wasn't there. Who says humans are doomed? I like this guy, a testament to the reciprocity of kindness, courtesy, and a friendly smile shared unto itself. Vin Scully might call Pat's "a modest thing, but thine own." Arguably the closest of many liquor stores to Dog Beach, Pat's is a cool little spot. What they lack in floor space they more than accommodate with charm and local pride, extended even to a SD pseudo-expat like me. Bottoms up. read more

Pat's is my neighborhood liquor store. It's incredibly convenient to walk to or, if we're trying to snag some booze while on our way out of the hood, we can just drive up and run in - not having to worry about finding a spot to park. I love that. It really is the perfect little shop with all the necessities. They have all the best snacks and Pinot Noir for $3.49 (cuz I'm classy like that). The staff are great and quick to get you in and out the door, which I appreciate. Pat's really does emulate a true convince store. It can't get much more convenient that Pat's! read more

Best liquor store in OB. Mark, Adam and Basil are like family and this is our go-to spot for brews, snacks and scratchers. They have everything you may need and will treat you better than any other convenience store. Even my dog loves going there! (Mark is her favorite) They sell everything - ice, propane, firewood bundles, all sorts of beverages, snacks, have a water fill-up station and even currently have where you can rent fire pits (a separate entity). You name it, they probably have it. Located about a block from Dog Beach, so super convenient for the beach goers. There will be other people saying that they are homies with the crew, but I know and they know, that I'm the favorite customer :) read more

Pat's liquor store may look like a shady OB dumb on the corner, but it is far from dumpy. I love the owner and the staff. They are all super cool and always ask if there is anything they can start stocking for me (they mean beer). Pat's is so close to me that I rarely go anywhere else for booze or the last minute condiment I forgot to snag. Ice cream, good craft beer, wine, liquor and your basic grocery necessities are all here. Thank you Pat's for being awesome and serving my alcoholism. read more

I will NEVER frequent this liquor store again. I would not even give it one star but unfortunately, that's not an option. The man attending the store at around 2:40 Friday the 5th of June was extremely rude. He was asked why his price was so much higher for a shot of fireball than another store up the street when he got really defensive and became rude and short. Then when questioned about his attitude he became more upset and even hostile!! I recommend going to the store a block away on Voltaire or to Abbott liquor down the street. read more

Liquor stores are the salt of the earth, and this place has a cool, old-school vibe and a store front that makes it look like it has been around for a damn long time. It looks like it has a "drive-thru", but nobody will come out. I just park in it and walk in. Now I don't even drink. No I am not a recovering alcoholic. I just choose not to for health reasons. But I will have beer (the darker the better) on special occasions. I stopped in here today to see what they had for the Super Bowl party i am attending, and I needed some Diet Coke. By the way, they have a pretty cool beer selection. They have your basics, but some micro brews too. The prices were only a tad high, but really not too bad. The customer service was great. I'm on a Yelp review spree and today I'm writing about my favorite local haunts. Pat's Liquor is your basic liquor/convenience store. They have a decent selection of micro and craft brews as well as your normal array of domestic slough. This place is owned by the same people who own Liticker's and Abbott Street Market. So it's pretty consistent in price with the local flare. I live right across the street so this place is extremely convenient. Clerks Mark and his cousin (the skinny guy - can't remember his name) are funny and love to chat while you make your purchase. It's as if you're actually a bar or something. Really cool... My only complaint is that they need more ready-to-eat snacks (like burritos, packaged sandwiches, etc). Then I wouldn't have to walk to 7-11 for snacks! This is literally "downstairs" from my friends house. The staff is always extremely friendly. And they have a wide selection of craft beers, food, wine, & house hold items (like more wine). I don't think you can beat $3.50 specials on wine! They are a block from the beach, and have a water machine out front. read more

Been coming to this store since 1998. Staff is always friendly and have a nice selection of ice cold beer. Technically it's illegal to drink on the beach in San Diego but it's all good, just bring a plastic cup. Classic beach liquor store that hasn't changed at all. Glad to see Pat's is still in business, our crew lived in the apartments on both corners of Voltaire and Abbot in the mid to late seventies, when we weren't in the water or on our boards skating, we were throwing the frisbee through traffic on this spot and Pat's was the only go to store in OB!!! This isn't really a "drive-thru" liquor store. There is no parking lot so they let you park in front of the door. There are two lanes, one for the Voltaire St. entrance and one for the Abbott St. entrance. They sell alcohol, cigarettes, and processed stuff, just like every other small, convenience liquor store. The reason I gave five stars, or even reviewed this place, is because they gave me back my prescription Prada sunglasses that I left on the counter the night before. read more

It's a liquor store. They are all over OB. this one is tiny. They have other stuff too. Not saying it is a bad store but I rarely shop here and I live two blocks away. They just have no edge. read more
