I am far from a serious weightlifter, but wanted to keep up with my training during our two week stay in Nags Head. First big pro was that I could sign up for my two-week membership online before I arrived, and my first visit took less than 5 minutes to get my key tag and finalize my membership. Membership includes towel service which, especially for those on vacation like me, is a big plus. Additionally, the locker rooms provide (non-locking, open) cubbies, toilets, a sauna, and three showers. During each of my 7 visits, I found the locker rooms to be clean and never without a clean towel. The gym itself has just about every piece of equipment you could want, and I never found myself having to wait too long for equipment, benches, or squat racks. Some equipment is a little more well-loved than others, but there are also some brand-spanking new pieces of equipment, so the owners are clearly putting money back into new equipment. And the more well-loved pieces are still functional, just with some wear and slightly uneven resistance at times. But by far the most impressive thing was the gym culture. Had a chance to chat with a few regulars, and each was awesome and supportive. A guy I'd never met before and who clearly spends a lot of time in the gym came over and gave me a fist bump and encouraging word after pushing through the last few reps of a tough set. It's hard to put a price on that kind of culture. Overall, well worth the price for me. I'll for sure be back next year!

In-season, the weeklong pass is the way to go. The facility itself is spacious (at the end of a warehouse), and split into two rooms; one open space for classes, and another backroom for open gyms with lifting equipment (racks, benches, etc.). Three lavatories that I counted, however only one water dispenser; be sure to bring a water bottle! The building itself gets pretty hot and humid in the summer, but that's the nature of the OBX. Classes itself are well structured with a good warmup. In-season, it seems like the majority are drop-ins, but everyone's pretty friendly; just be respectful, same as at any box. Coaches are great, very involved and take the time to try to know all of the athletes. Over the past few summers, it seems the programming has started to incorporate more variety, which I've enjoyed. That said, they do program for RX/Games level athletes, so don't be afraid to scale! Overall, I really enjoy coming here each summer I'm visiting, and look forward to being back again next year.

This review is for the swimming pool only…read more This was my first time at the WISC and I was darn impressed with the amount of activities offered. I had no idea this was tucked back in this area by Lafayette H.S. The setting is pretty and back in the woods. Parking is plentiful, you just may have to walk. Specifically for the pool is very limited in the rear. For officials and coaches they have a designated lot not far. Spectator parking is in front of the main building unless you get lucky. The pool is in the rear of the main building. I believe it's only a few years old, possibly built in 2017. It does not look like much from the front, but don't let that fool you. Locker rooms are up front. The lobby area is very small for congregating before and after meets. The pool itself is a 10 lane short course. In order to conduct warm-up/cools down during a meet a lane, or two is closed running the heats at either 8, or 9 lanes. There is a small baby pool up front. The deck is decent size and has bleacher area for athletes and limited spectator bleachers. Fold up chairs are permitted. Around six garage doors are around each side of the structure to improve air quality of the temperatures are conducive. The two day meet hosted by 757 Swim was in January. Garage doors overall were closed with a few at the start area up a quarter to improve air quality. Needless to say with cooler temps it was chilly for the athletes when waiting for their events. The meet hosting was fantastic by 757 and timelines were mostly hit by the officials crew. Upon first entering the pool area I was struck with a heavy chlorine smell and my eyes began to burn. Well duh... pools are chlorinated but this was heavy. I'm around pools everyday, so I know the challenges of pool air quality. Both days were consistently the same on poor air. My athlete had a cough and sore throat a day after the meet. This to me is dangerous over a long period of time. Two days is not a long period. Splashes also add to the churning up of chlorine thrown up in the air. It was a large meet with lots of splashes and my older swimmer was second session. Possible HVAC issue on my visit? I can't really say other than friends said it's been better. If your interested in all that's available at WISC check their website, or read other reviews here on yelp. If swimming is your thing then consider a membership to the pool. It is an amazing complex with incredible offerings. If for not the issues with air I'm at a 4, but with air quality challenged a 3 fits them best.

They have that perfect outdoor surface feel, but without any of the usual outdoor annoyances--no wind, no bugs, no pollen, no rain delays. Just smooth, uninterrupted play! The black walls also make it so much easier to see the ball, which is a huge plus. The level of play is fantastic, and the community is even better. There are weekly competitive events that are not only super fun, but also a great way to meet other players at your skill level. I've taken clinics with Coaches Becky, Bill, and Kris--and they've all been amazing! They're so knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping you improve. The facility itself is beautiful--there are clean showers, a really nice event room, and ball machines available if you want to drill on your own. Highlights of the complex. * 6,000 square feet of strength & training * 3,000 square feet of athletic training * 1500 permanent spectator seating * Astro turf 90 * Scoreboard, press boxes, lighting * Water cannon system for watering * Concession & restrooms * Parking close to the facility * Outdoor second level balcony for entertaining I've had the pleasure of touring the building and facilities several times its phenomenal. The only reason for a 4 star is due to no renovations have taken place since the original install 11 years ago. Everything is maintained by ODU and looks great!
