My husband had cod fish and chips and I had crispy cod tacos. The filling on my tacos was delicious. The shells had that tough texture that signaled they needed to be warmed up more. The crisp on the fish and chips was good, but the fish may have needed just a tad longer. We had ice cream for dessert. We also had wine with dinner and after-dinner drinks. The prices were reasonable for what we got. Overall, the taco shells were the only big miss. We would definitely return to Marlborough Tavern.

I popped in to see if they had any space or if we would need to book and was quickly told that they could serve us as soon as they had rearranged some tables. At the same time, I was reassured to find that they would happily cater for the two Coeliacs in the party and had a decent range of dishes they could provide as Gluten Free. This place is more of a traditional inn than a 'gastropub' and the quality of both the freshly cooked food and the attentive staff underlines that. Our order contained pan-fried salmon, risotto, chicken breast on mustard mash, a home-made burger, ham & eggs, linguine and some side orders of chips. Drinks included, the bill only came to £140 or so, granted we didn't go for starters or dessert as we had to travel back to Manchester that evening, but the prices on the menu looked reasonable for that side of things too. I can only speak for the chicken breast and a spoonful of risotto, but they had plenty of flavour, not too much salt, tender and not dry chicken with a crisp skin and lovely creamy sauce. The risotto was everything you would expect from a good risotto, perfectly separated rice with lots of interesting veg mixed in and full of flavour. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful and they made sure that all the food arrived at the same time so we all had it hot and together, which was really good. The belated side order which was requested as the other dishes were delivered was brought immediately too which is a touch of class. All round a fantastic experience and no complaints from anyone, everybody really enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

The pub is unassuming on the outside but nice inside. There are two sections those for indoor dining and those wanting to sit outdoors or hang by the bar, we chose the latter. Outside is wonderful with a nice patio, plants, and plenty of shade. With the warm weather, this was a popular spot for folks. Service was friendly but limited. You order and pay for your food and drinks at the bar, they bring it out to you and that's it. I had a Lemon Chicken Pesto Sandwich. It was fine but nothing spectacular. I wish there was more filling to the sandwich, it was very bready. The fries (chips) were crispy and soft. My group enjoyed their meals as well and they looked good. Bath has lots of eateries and shops. If you're going to the Roman Baths or are in the main area, Crystal Palace is a nice spot to stop in for a bite or drink. I guess that was because it was between lunch and dinner. No biggie. The food was good, and the beer was great. I wanted something cold and dry. I was recommended a Japanese beer called Asahi. Wow! So good for a hot day!!! I have to find this in the US. I ordered the Cod Goujon Sandwich. Very crispy, and it came with some chips/fries, and onion rings. I thought I saw a group of women at another table order steak fries/chips, but I must have been mistaken. I so wanted steak fries! Mine were skinny. In hindsight, I should have just gotten the fish & chips because the bun was a bit much. Basically, the same meal but without the bun. I had to ask for extra tartar sauce because the sandwich was too dry without the amount they put on. Overall, I loved this place. Quirky, old, and the bathrooms are a must-see, with the old pipes and faucets. I asked the bartender how old the building was, but he had no clue.
