The place is beautiful, the staff are wonderful but too many problems to write on this sight. You…read morewill pay a fortune for the pretty stuff but this is really an independent living. Family and residents can not speak to administration regarding anything without being told we are wrong. Staff turn over is horrible. As soon as we had staff that would consistently check on our mom then they were gone or pulled to their memory care. The staff is supposed to check on the residents every 2 hours by law and some days it was 8-10 hours. We kept cameras in my moms room because we know she is elderly, she will fall, have problems. If we called desk to say my mom has fallen the administrator or nurse denied she fell, said it was not bad, or never followed up to see how she was. Thank goodness the previous nurse left but we NEVER had any of our concerns were taken seriously and all our family members were berated each time as it is not their responsibility. When you try to look up higher level administration or ask staff to please get those numbers NO ONE- even asking 10-12 different staff knew how we can contact owners/ managers above the facility. There handbook says to talk to director or resident advocate and trust me- the residents are exhausted on who to really take issues to. They hired a business director but someone who knows little about aging care. We had planned to have my mom age in place with dignity but despite paying for the highest level of care but greatly regret moving her from her independent living to pay 4x as much and basically receiving the same care. Our fees before moving were approaching $9,000-$10,000 but getting exactly what we were paying for in independent care ( other than med administration) for $2,500 a month. At least in our independent senior living we felt the entire staff genuinely knew what an aging population needed or struggled with and heard any complaint or issue needing very simple intervention instead of telling family it's not their problem. Oh and that fall we were told was not a problem I drove 6 hours away after watching her since for a week on her camera was a broken shoulder that the director told staff it was an "old injury". We spent the last 6 months of her time there around the clock because we could not trust she would be checked on for meals, showers, routine medicines despite paying for the max level of care. Like I said a few staff were consistent and amazing but it was never consistent.

Looked into Heritage Oaks Memory Care as an option to relocate my mother from her current facility…read more Scott was absolutely the best - he was professional and patient as we worked through the decision. The only reason we did not move my mother here; was she is happy where she is and relocating her at this time was not in her best interest. If it was solely about my wants and needs - she would be there now. Scott left the option open should her needs change in the future. Personally, from what I have seen from the many we have toured, this is one of the best.

It makes me sad to write that because some of their "care partners" are excellent, but turnover is high because of how they are treated by the Ringling Bro Circus ladies. I think they are very excited about their "new titles" and I get that. It is exciting when one moves up to a position with low levels of education as such. But, unfortunately it creates an environment where the residents are not taken care of and they really don't know what they are doing. It's too bad because the facility does look nice. Just know that they don't actually provide many of the amenities they say that they do. There are so many better options in the area with much higher quality caregiving for the same price. We moved our family member and their disposition changed dramatically upon leaving. I'm always super cautious of any place that has their own current employees reviewing on google. The more appropriate platform for that is Indeed or Glassdoor. It's a clear attempt to increase the rating.

They cook daily freshly prepared meals and consider residents choice food. They celebrate all staff and residents birthdays and holidays. I will definitely recommend this place to age with grace and happiness. Visitor

The good employees were the ones who got run over by family members and made to have that sort of attitude at work because of the way they were put down, picked and nagged at by them. You were one of them Ms. Janice, you were one of the reasons I did not enjoy working at the smaller house. I could spend my whole 12 hours with your dad (who we all loved so much by the way, and who, if you would have just taken a step back and took a breather, was very happy and just fine for the most part until towards the end when it had just become too much) and it still wouldn't have been good enough. You spent "your life" running back and forth because of things that you specifically wanted and hovered over and watched and expected every caregiver to spend every second with your father when they had other residents and daily things to do and take care of and you would get very upset over things that I personally along with others feel you would over exaggerate and blow out of proportion. The food you speak of isn't actually at all what you say it was. I thought the food was delicious and always thought they were well fed & if the food wasn't up to your standards then I would have to say it would be the caregiver who wasn't cooking it properly because I always thought the menu & the meals that were prepared were great. I worked in other assisted living homes where I would not even serve anyone what they had prepared but the owner of A&B spends a lot of time, money and most of the time prepping meals that are made for the residents. As far as the RN, & the other things you spoke of .. there is an rn that is registered to a&b and is ON CALL 24/7 ...if needed. Above and beyond is an ASSISTED LIVING HOME. We do not provide hospice care, home health or physical therapy. However, yes, we provide information and have hospice, home health, and PT in our homes as the family chooses which company they would like for their loved one. Assisted living caregivers are not physical therapists or nurses. So we have companies who do that part. We clean, shower & feed Also, the owner of the assisted living home does not have to pay for your loved one to have PT, that I also haven't seen at other assisted living homes. Unless it's included In their facility and then added to "your dime" ... Toiletries, for their personal selves, etc, ARE PROVIDED BY THE FAMILY MEMBERS. Also, another thing that is done in other assisted living homes I've worked at. The owner has the home payments, utilities, employees, food, among MANY other things to pay for monthly.... As far as the appliances and the things you say didn't work weren't fixed etc, unfortunately during the time of your stay, the owners husband had cancer, and passed away in time. Things through my eyes were very well taken care of during that time as best as they could be and should have been understood by family members if it had taken more time than expected to get to, but it always got done & I remember watching him, even though he was dying of cancer, come in and handle things that needed to be done and got them done. So for you to say those things is appalling. From what I have gathered from previous friends and co-workers, you were asked to move your father. Which to me would seem that if you were this unhappy, for the 16 MONTHS you had your father there, why did it take the owner asking you to move (due to the constant nicking, picking & complaints and making all of the caregivers not want to work in that house) to move him? I would think if I had my loved one somewhere that I was that unhappy, I would have taken it upon myself to move them somewhere else. Fortunately for this company, you are the only review and person who has viewed this page on yelp, because they don't deserve that kind of slander from anyone. But luckily and hopefully with my review, if anyone happens to come across yours, they will read mine as well and see that Above and Beyond is not the place you mentioned, the owner & caregivers are not the kind of people you make them out to be, and the residents we have are very happy. Family members from past years still come to visit. Lots of our residents have lived there for years and have been more than happy with above and beyond and the 16+ years that they have been open, just goes to show that your review is certainly just your own personal feelings towards an experience you yourself made a difficult one. Have a wonderful day, Ms. Janice.
