This is sort of another railway station pub, except that the station that it happens to be across the road from is Waterloo Station, one of the largest stations in London. I wandered in here late a night for a drink, and yeah, I can't say that it was all that great. I guess the limited beers put me off a little. read more

AVOID!!! Do not stay here. The worst service and room we have ever experienced. We arrived 1.5 hours early, most places will let you check in early for a small charge. The man that greeted us didn't even check if our room was ready, and told us check in was at 3. After checking in we were told we were on level 6(room12) and then told there were no elevators and were directed to the stairs. No offer to help us carry our 25kg suitcases up to level 6. The room looks nothing like the photos. We had a view of the train station. Extremely expensive food. 60 pound for 2 drinks a wrap and a cheeseburger. read more

First pub we hit after getting off the plane and we just wanted to catch some women's World Cup. They had plenty of tv's for viewing but no sound for any of them had music playing instead ? Neat little pub by the waterloo station that kinda smells like the bathroom when you walk in. The place is clean though, despite its smell. They have a decent menu here but the ciabatta melts i've tried are definitely not that great. for a bit less than 6 quid, i guess you can't complain. What definitely makes you want to come back are their NACHOS. Get them. The small portion is fairly large, but the large portion is not that much bigger. I have pics, but this giant nacho full of jalapenos, sour cream, avacado, chili beef and salsa is AMAZING. for about 6 quid, it's not bad at all. I have pics. Will post. The interior is pretty fun. Their hotel reception is at the bar, and the entire restaurant is decorated with the battle of waterloo murals of general wellington and napoleon. Lots of TVs showing sports events. This place used to have a scary reputation as a doss house and a place to go if you wanted to meet pickpockets or have a bar fight. However, it has at some point in the last decade had a complete refit and is actually quite nice now in that big brewery stand pseudo victorian way. It was filled with a mixed crowd when I went, the service was fine and the prices were very reasonable (unlike the Firestation opposite). If you want a pub to watch the footie, this place is perfect as they have TVs everywhere. It's also a convenient point to meet friends in being immediately outside the station. Additionally, as this is a hotel as well as a pub errr did someone say inn? You can also get rooms here which all seem to be around £89 per night. It isn't a cool place, but if you are there for conversation with your friends, the Wellington is fine. read more

If you're hungry or looking to grab a drink with a larger group around Waterloo, this pub is a very good option. It is quite big on the inside and the decoration is very nice, with Wellington's battles painted as a huge mural on the ceiling. Since I was looking for food after work I tried the pork schnitzel, one of the specials on the menu which came with a fried egg and cold pasta and I was very happy with my order. The meal was quite filling so I struggled a little bit to finish it while also wishing I could have more, not because I was hungry but because I was really enjoying it. On a Monday night the pub is not too crowded so you'll be able to find a seat easily. They also have screens on the wall so you can watch football if a game is on. I will probably go back to try more of the food and see what the pub is like during the day too. read more

We arrived about 6:30 on a Thursday, after traveling from Paris on the Eurostar. Hotel staff, at the nearby Westminster Park Plaza, suggested The Wellington as a close-by pub for an early diner. We arrived with my 13 year old grandson in tow. The place was pretty full, (and quite noisy) with all the tables taken by the post work crowd, with a (very) few tourists mixed in. Everyone seemed to be having a good time! A table opened up shortly, and I searched out a staff member to figure out how London Pubs work. As a Yank, I was pretty clueless. Barkeeper set me straight in short order without calling attention to my clueless state. You need to place your order (and pay for it) at the bar, taking your drinks with you to your table. Food is delivered by a server. Barkeeper suggested I try ESB (Extra Special Bitter), but I was having nothing of it as I don't favor IPAs at all. He then suggested Frontier, a craft lager, by Fullers, a major brewer in UK, (and owner of The Wellington). It was a deep reddish color, very malty, cold, and very good.Definitely will try to find it back in the States. We had two orders of fried cod with chips, and an order of scampi (shrimp) with chips. Damn, the Brits know how to fry fish! Batter was crispy, light, and crunchy, while the fish and shrimp was tender and sweet. All in all, a fun evening accompanied by good food and drink. read more

My group just happened to walk past this place looking for a spot where had the late NFL games on. I saw the TV through the window and in we went. Interesting enough, there's no hostess stand or any type of order in here, but we found a spot just beyond the bar where we could see the TV and the game. Low and behold, we sat there for a good 10 minutes with nobody coming to look after us. The staff could see us there, but made no effort to come over. Rather than get aggravated like a typical American tourist, I walked up to one of the staff and asked about the ordering procedure. With a great smile, the waitress said that all I had to do was place my order up at the bar, and that they would give us our drinks at the bar to take back to our table. Any food we ordered would be also ordered at the bar and brought to our table. BOOM, I figured out the system. Aggravation level back down to below normal levels. This being a Sunday, apparently Sunday Roast is a huge thing in England...who knew...I love that. So my group ordered different variations of it....Beef & Pork, and we threw in a Fish n Chips for good measure. Sure enough, after about 15-20 minutes after ordering up at the bar, a member of the staff brought all the food to our table. All food was delicious, decent sized, but not overly crazy portions. The decor of the pub is awesome, exactly what you'd expect of an old style british pub. The murals are awesome. One final thing...if you're a fan of super creamy and delicious ice cream, then you must order that here. That is the one lasting memory I have of this place, that the ice cream absolutely kicked ass. Super rich & creamy. I have no reservations about recommending this place. Just understand how the service works and you'll be fine. If you're expecting to be waited on hand and foot like they do for us here in the U.S., then be ready for disappointment. Pretty and pleasant little pub (& hotel) right next to Waterloo Station, owned by Fuller's. Just a little loud in the evenings. ;) This became my "default waterhole" on three occasions when I stayed at hotels in the docklands area of London, near the Canning Town tube station. Late in the evening, before taking the Jubilee Line out there, I would hang out for a half hour or hour (usually after concerts at The Southbank Centre) at The Wellington. This being a Fuller's pub, it offers the full range of that brewery's ales and lagers (handpumped and bottled) - and me being a fan of those beers - it's just a natural connection. But it's a very nice pub per se, with a fully equipped bar, well-maintained beers (including, of course, the usual range of European lagers like Peroni; Stella and Kronenbourg) at moderate prices (for London anyway), and a likeable decor that fully exploits the name and history of the Duke of Wellington (see photos). The range of pub grub is the usual, too. Be aware that music is playing in the background continuously. That, and the fact that The Wellington gets plenty busy (mostly with younger people) in the evenings - not just on weekends - accounts for a loud, sometimes very loud atmosphere. This is at least partly offset by the very modest lighting, the corners of The Wellington can get rather dark-ish, which I like. One of the best pubs close to Waterloo Station (especially if you're not a fan of the Hole in the Wall), and a perfect final stop before you go to your home, or hotel. read more

A great English pub with a decent selection of beers and food. I stumbled upon here after reviving a misguided recommendation from the staff at my hotel. Although I did not stay here at the Wellington I would definitely consider it. The location in Waterloo is good and the "public house" has a great variety of music with some sports (cricket when I arrived) on tv or the Telly for you Brits. ;) The menu selection is good and prices are about average for London ranging from about under 10GBP for appetizers and under 20GBP for most meals. I didn't try the food but it smelled great. I'd give it five stars but since I didn't try the food and the fact that it was confusing when I walked in that you have to order at the bar and seat yourself it loses half a star. Since I can't give it 4.5 stars I'll round up ;) It has a great environment with cozy places to sit such as two leather chairs by the fireplace, bar height tables, regular tables, etc. This American will definitely come back! read more

This is pub has a fabulous atmosphere, courtesy of wonderful manager, Mark. While the London Pride was just as good as usual, the Gin and Tonic was fabulous and the food we had was fresh and delicious. Great atmosphere, good location, plenty of seats This place is good for a chill night in, perhaps after dinner at one of the many lovely restaurants lining Southbank. Grab a seat under the massive mural that spans the ceiling over the main bar. I'll give these guys credit, they know how to pour a good Guinness and the prices are reasonable. I quite enjoyed having a chat with some new and old friends while relaxing. The added benefit is that it's a 30 second sprint to catch the last tube so you can quite literally stay right to last tube. I'll be back anytime I'm in the area for dinner or catching a movie on the big screen. read more

A special place for special people, the Wellington feels like a local pub but is located opposite Waterloo station and is a good place to watch sport unless you are Welsh. The inability of the bar staff to cope when the Wales v New Zealand match was shunted to the red button because of Andy Murray (it's a red button it's big and red plus the rugby was on it) was hugely frustrating. When they finally realised what the red button was the fact the system went down added further insult to injury. I then suggested that they switch the channel to S4C to get the pictures with Welsh commentary but the simpleton controlling the remote came out with a load of bull that they didn't have it despite it being on every Sky package. When the game finally came on Wales were well on their way to a famous victory (ok I made the last bit up). Having said that they have HD TVs which made South Africa's win over England seem much more satisfying, thereby earning The Wellington a second star. read more

This pub across from Waterloo station contained an interesting mix of patrons on a Friday night, ranging from middle aged couples on a date to some corporate men catching the rugby match after work. It was busy without being crowded and cramped and there was no shortage of tables and benches to sit. Although the decor is a bit chain-y and not unique this place does have that comfortable feeling that pubs are the best at. Staff is friendly and not pretentious in any way. There is a good beer selection on draft and plenty of TVs so there is no need to twist or crane your neck to see the football game. Chips were okay, but not the best. Overall this place is worth stopping by if you're looking for a quick pint in the area but isn't the place to make a big night out. read more

The rooms were quaint and very modernized. The staff...simply amazing! They did everything to make our stay perfect and we will definitely stay there again on our next visit. There is a bar/restaurant on the main level which serves a delicious full, complimentary breakfast. It truly is what you'd expect of a London hotel and we were more than satisfied! read more

The location was good, right across the street from the underground. The room itself wasn't bad but the bathroom floor was squishy in front of the shower from water damage. The shower was super small, barely enough room to turn around. No elevator so we had to carry our luggage up several flights of stairs. Breakfast was provided and I enjoyed that. The hotel is above a pub and the hotel check in is in the pub, it was not clearly marked so we had to ask for assistance. But the staff was friendly. read more

My brother and I met for lunch here one day because it's right around the corner from his office. For it being lunch time there was only a few people in there which was nice. Popped in here for the Haye vs Chisora fight (on the TV, obviously). All of this should be read in light of that fact ... it was a Saturday, so largely free from the commuting hordes, and hence why it's probably a very different experience to during the week. Was absolutely dumbfounded that, as one of the only pubs nearby showing the fight that I walked in 5 mins before it began and managed to get a seat. Wonderfully spacious (vast ceilings), big screens for sports. Fuller's pub, so good standard of drinks behind the bar and on draft. Enjoyed a (somewhat new? never seen it before) pint of Wild River pale ale - good balanced hops, but not too aggressive. Seemed like a good crowd, with no troublemakers or obnoxious twats ... which is sadly rare nowadays. Probably deserves 3.5 stars, but can't quite justify 4*. Definitely worth a pop into if you're in the area and want a quick pint whilst watching sports. Certainly not a destination watering hole. Ideally situated for Waterloo railway station; it is straight across the road! I used to work at Waterloo station in the 80s, and this was my local after work. The Wellington is a Fullers pub, and also a hotel. You immediately know you are in The Wellington due the large mural of the Battle of Waterloo on the ceiling. Very nice it is too! The Wellington is certainly a lively pub, but this just adds to the atmosphere. It certainly has the feel of a big city pub and, being opposite the railway station, obviously benefits from the 'one for the road' clientele. The Wellington serves food, which I have never tried, and there are screens for the sport too. Worth a pint before the commute home. read more

This pub is situated in a busy congested area of Waterloo but you can not get any closer to the public transport network if you are looking for a night out. The pub is also a hotel with reasonable rates and they are currently undergoing some renovation works. The best thing about the pub is that it is situated beneath the railway bridge and the atmosphere inside feels a bit vintage but still cozy. The price of alcohol is reasonable for the location and you might as well stay for a meal whilst you are there. There are a few TV screens all over the place to keep the sports fans happy. read more

I'd have 4 starred the pub had they not got rid of the heogaarden. It's a very convenient and acceptable pub with hotel rooms above. The food is the usual affair as are the drinks now, with your 1 or 2 ales and standard lagers. Lots of TV screens for multi sport, but unless a big one, the sound will be music. Very busy during Rugby internationals. This place seems child friendly, but can have a rowdy crowd at times. Good for a meeting point. read more

If you think of pubs near train stations, certainly in London, most are bad; this is the one that shines from the normality. True it's not the best in the world, but for somewhere close to various routes home it could be worse and still viable as an option. An ideal starting point or the 'one for the road' pub. Real Ale and lager (with standards on offer). This is a really big pub with plenty of screens showing a couple of different sporing events. Can get very busy with 'during the week' football events (due to the quick exit to Waterloo) but if you can claim a space the atmosphere is worth the busy nature. If you have experienced the classic 'near station' pub in London, this is so much more. It would be a 4 star review if it wasn't for the expected transient nature of pubs like this. read more

Great spot near where I always stay when in London. Have had many a pint here and also have done dinner in the upstairs dining room when I dont feel like venturing out very far. Bar tenders are great and the outside seating area is a good spot for nice afternoons. Lots of cask ales to choose from and the lamb shank pie and the fish and chips are tasty. read more
