I spent a good amount of time at The Westin in Dublin, and so here you have it: Location: Right in the center of it all, at the gates of Temple Bar, close to transport (Tara Street station DART will take you directly to Howth for around 5 euros return). No complaints here, VERY well located for both business travelers, tourists, etc. And that's where I really stop being "wow'ed" by this particular Westin. I roll up (about 20 euros from the airport by taxi, or take Aircoach for just 7!) in the rain (of course, it's Ireland) -- and despite this being a 5-star property...there is no bellman, no doorman, no valet...just a few guys standing around smoking. I later found out they do indeed "work" at the property -- but they maybe don't do things. So I lugged my back in through the revolving door (awkward) and up the 5-6 flat steps to reception. I realized upon checkout that there is a side entrance for the bellman with a ramp where they can meet you near your bags. Ahem -- anyway, I check in and all is fine. Arrive to the room, it's pretty good by EU travel standards. The Heavenly bed and all that jazz, a separate bathtub (which I did use once, very nice!), etc. Complimentary water was restocked daily. The good: *Room Service breakfast: spot on. It's pricey, but the servings are massive. We split an Irish Breakfast (on Paddy's Day, no less!) and it was easily enough for us both. *We had a view of the street and the parade. Nice! *Ordered me a taxi back to the airport -- flat fee of 22. Saved me about 4 euros. On checkout, they did much better with the bag handling and left me with a better impression! Things that annoyed me: *The "snacks" in the room contained one can of Pringles. That someone had eaten and then put the empty can back. Flashback to living with brothers. *Forgot to clean our room on Saturday. Would've been really nice to return back to a clean room, instead we had to call down and leave again. * The staff is a little bristled. Not overly friendly. Except the maid staff, who were all very polite and kind. *INTERNET IS 15 euros/day. WHY OH WHY OH WHY? This is ridiculous. Especially because its weak! Tip: plug into the ethernet for a much better connection. Then even though I paid, it only let me connect to 2 devices at a time. I realize that seems probably fine, but when you have 2 people working from a room and both have phones, laptops and ipads...my 15 euros should allow me as much access as I need. Done. *Also, I tried to grab a drink at The Mint (downstairs). After 45 minutes of waiting and 3 servers that promised it was coming, I decided I preferred the bottled water (complimentary!) in my room. Seriously Mint, get it TOGETHER. My husband stays here for work (and racks up SPG points), so perhaps I'll be back. I can't say I was overly impressed but its a fine hotel with updated decor, quite excellent location, a decent bar scene (if they'll serve you a drink)...just missing a little something special to garner the 4 or 5-star rating. read more

Before you read on, be warned this review is only regarding Afternoon Tea! The Westin have two options for Afternoon Tea, "Traditional Afternoon Tea" and "Very Peculiar Afternoon Tea". Both are €24 which is fairly reasonable. It is a lot of food after all. Traditional Afternoon Tea was delightful as expected with small sandwiches, scone/cream/jam, and some desserts. Very Peculiar Afternoon Tea was quite exciting though, because instead of tea you get Mojito served in a teapot! Also, they serve bite size savoury dishes (like pork cheek, prawns, beef, salmon etc.) instead of sandwiches, and banana bread instead of a scone. As for a venue, the Westin provides a good Afternoon Tea vibe. It's almost like an indoor courtyard full of couches, tables and chairs. There is a glass ceiling about five floors up, with bedroom windows and balconies that look down onto the space. It's unusual but nice. My one unfavorable thing about this experience was that they charged €5.50 when we asked them to refill a teapot. This seemed unnecessary considering it was only an extra teabag (not loose leaf tea) and we had just paid for six Afternoon Teas. read more

Great central location, easy walking distance to trinity college, and temple bar area. Nice touches everywhere, friendly accommodating staff. They treat starwood platinum members right which isn't the case at all the starwood brands. Amazing bar in the basement, that makes a smoke infused old fashioned that is a sight to behold. Room was spacious and comfortable with nice amenities. If you are on a budget, this place is pretty expensive, the temple bar inn just across the street is a nice chic hotel for 1/4 the price, but is right on the main drag and is very loud. The Westin is located in the heart of the city, less than a minutes walk to Trinity college and across the road from the start of Fleet Street (aka Temple Bar). Yet, despite this location, the hotel itself is a quiet and peaceful retreat from the bustling city centre. The Westin used to be a bank that was converted into a 4 star hotel (it claims to be a 5 star property but it's really a solid 4). The interior decor is non-offensive Georgian---which means there are lots of nice touches (trims, mirrors, etc), but nothing terribly exciting. It is a Westin after-all, no need to push the envelope here:) The best part of the Westin is of course the heavenly bed, and once again it lives up to its top billing. The bathrooms are also palatial---large, covered in white marble, and gold mirrors. The Mint is a nice bar in basement, and one of the few places in Dublin to do a wide arrange of cocktails, though the 500 Euro cocktail on the menu is a but off-putting---seriously this is the Westin not the Merrion. They do Salsa dancing on Friday nights that apparently draws in the crowds. Otherwise it is a mellow place to have a drink. My biggest gripe. Why charge for wifi? yes it was fast and reliable, but seriously at 15 Euro / day it is a major turn off and I think drives people to other top properties where Internet is free. While there are certainly trendier and/or better value accommodations in Dublin--the Westin remains a favourite given its excellent location and great beds. My first hotel in Dublin, it was a great place to start my trip. Location: Very Centrally located. It's across the street from Trinity college + Book of Kells. About a 20 minute walk/ 10 minute taxi ride to Guinness. 5 minute walk to the temple bar area. Hotel + Service: I love the smell when you first walk into the hotel. Very classic decor. The service was impeccable. When we arrived, our room wasn't ready yet. They offered us another room but the front desk told us that our room was worth the wait. So we dropped off our luggage and went down the street to the Bank for brunch. The concierge was also very helpful with helping us book tickets + their recommendations. Room: We were in a room on the 4th floor with a balcony overlooking the city. The room was a good size, perfect for 2 people. It might be a little tight for 3 people. I really loved the balcony + the view. The beds were definitely heavenly, especially after a long day of walking. Sheets were clean! The only con was the city noise which you could hear with all windows closed, also you can hear wind noises which can get pretty loud. Bathroom: Decently sized. The shower had great water pressure + towels were soft. The hair dryer is in the closet. Food: We had breakfast in their restaurant and it was really good. They also have afternoon tea. It was busy both days we were there, so I would highly recommend reservations. Parking: I believe it was around 15 euros for valet per day. read more

We stayed at the Westin Dublin for four days and it was a good experience and very comfortable. FIrst of all, the location was absolutely great and we were able to walk around everywhere and Temple Bar was right across our hotel. Everything was near and was very easy to get around and a variety of food and shopping to choose from. Even though, we were in the city with the noise outside. Entering the hotel it was very quiet and peaceful and you forget about the hustle & bustle outside. Secondly, the staff were great and very accommodating and recommended us to a place where we can enjoy some Irish food & entertainment (it was at the Arlington Hotel) not far from where we stayed. Our room was very simple and comfortable. I am very picky with hotel bathrooms and this bathroom was very nice and clean. We had a good Wifi connection and we did not have problems once we got connected. All in all, I really enjoyed my stay here especially since everything is at a walking distance and a good place to rest. I would definitely come back to the Westin Dublin. read more

The following rant about allergies is not totally the Westin's fault, so much as an accumulation of reactions from eateries, the latest of which happened at the Westin! Lots of time when you say you have an allergy, that gets interpreted as 'just doesn't like'... as if not liking something wasn't a perfectly legitimate reason not to eat it when you're paying for your food. I have a host of food allergies because that's how it works, but I can avoid most of them by just reading a menu. One that I cannot avoid that way is black pepper. Another thing about allergies is that reactions are not predictable. I can't tell you whether I'll have no reaction, swollen lips or spend the rest of the evening in the bathroom. I also can't know that I won't suddenly have a much more severe reaction. A 13 euro sandwich in the Atrium bar at the Westin comes with parsnip crisps flavoured with black pepper. I asked these things to be left off my plate because allergy. simples. I didn't ask for a replacement, I said the word 'allergic', and they were there anyway. Even if I just didn't like them, wouldn't that be enough of a reason not to put them on my plate? And of course maybe the server just forgot or didn't understand, but dammit it's fecking 13 euro sandwich. Btw if you can't accommodate someone's stated allergy, just tell them. It's actually preferable to go and get fed somewhere else than to play russian roulette with an over-reactive immune system. If you don't believe in allergies/gravity/whatever and insist on feeding people things they've told you they don't want, please consider getting out of the business where you ask people to pay you for making food they like. Aside from allergy rants the sandwich was fine, but not spectacular. A pot of tea costs 5.50 but it comes with a few posh biscuits that hit the spot. The venue is quite nice with an open feeling and very comfortable furniture. For the record I would go back for tea and cake, but I'll be avoiding their savoury dishes! And I'd have given them three stars if they didn't ignore my allergy! read more

Total waste of money, they haven't a clue that there is a recession in Ireland at the moment and they don't really care either. I tried to book a room when in Dublin but the were totally overpriced. I stayed there before and, yes its nice, but not that nice. There are better value for money quality places in Dublin that offer the same standards of service and accommodation but don't rip the arse out of it. My advice is take a look around Dublin and you are sure to find better, and better price too. I did! read more

Greatly enjoyed our stay at the Westin Dublin. First off let me say that the location alone is worth staying here. Add on top of it a clean comfortable room, great staff and best of all, a SPG property where you can earn and redeem points, even better! Actually, the whole reason I picked the Westin was based on them being part of Starwood. Checkin was quick and easy and the bellman/doorman/evening concierge was terrific. I forget the gentleman's name, but he greatly took care of us during our stay and always had a list of suggestions of places to go and see based on what we had done that day. I know I have said it before, but the location of the hotel was perfect. it was across from Temple Bar and a block away from Trinity College. The hop-on/hop-off tour bus picked up either a block away in front of Trinity College or across the street at Temple Bar. One thing I wish I had known ahead of time was the airport bus also drops off fairly close to the hotel as well. (Next to Trinity College) So if your trying to save some $$ or € €, take the bus to and from the airport. read more

I love SPG! The Westin is a beautiful building which use to be a bank in it's former life, it is located in the heart of where all the action takes place. Exit the hotel and the magic of Dublin is at your fingertips, just steps away from Trinity Church, a couple of quays over from Grafton Street, cross the Liffey via Ha' Penny Bridge and a nice walk to Temple Bar, where all the nightlife takes place! The staff was courteous and the room was spacious, and free WiFi, I'm assuming this was because of our Elite status with Starwood, but we were happy to call it home for 4 days! The Heavenly bed was divine and just what our weary limbs needed after crossing the pond. The bathroom was beautiful, with the white marble and great lighting! The water pressure was wonderful as well, which was hit or miss during our travels through Ireland. The Atrium was a nice and bright, a relaxing space where we got our irish coffee each morning and sifted through our travel books for the day's adventure. We wanted to come back for afternoon tea, but never made it back during the day. The Mint Bar is a nice located in the vaults and the bartenders are nice and libations plenty. The dark bar set a nice mood for an evening drink, we were also lucky enough to spot some patrons doing the tango! We had actually missed our flight back to Philadelphia that Saturday and there was not another flight available until the following Monday (Gee, stuck in Dublin, I could think of worser things!) We returned to the Westin and informed them of our situation. They immediately put is back in the same room with the same rate without any hesitation. The staff here was amazing as was the accomodations. Should we ever return to Dublin, we will surely book our stay at the Westin! read more

My incredible husband took me on a suprise trip to Ireland and we stayed at the Westin in Dublin. Oh how I wish for 1/2 stars as this would of been a 4 1/2. As soon as the taxi pulled up to the hotel to drop us off, the hotel doorman was right at our side with a cart to collect our bags and lead us towards the check-in desk. Talk about prompt service! We arrived at 9am after traveling for over 24 hours to get here. Needless to say, we were exhausted and ready to sleep. We were hoping we'd be lucky enough to get a room this early before check-in. The staff was extremely courteous, Keith and Jenny to be exact. Keith got us checked in right away and we even got a free upgrade! He gave us a map of the area, pointed out a few of his favorite places, and told us to head up to our room and our luggage would be right up after us and it was. We were a little upset to find out that we had 2 twin beds in our room. We could of asked for a king bed room but honestly we just wanted to sleep and didn't want to complain because we were already upgraded to a better room. The bed situation turned out to be just fine. The beds were very comfortable! They call them "heavenly" and that they were! If only the pillows were. The room had a nice city view, a stocked fridge and mini bar, and a very nice closet and dresser. The bathroom had a huge bathtub w/ shower nozzle, pedestal sink, (which normally I wouldn't like,) but there was a big counter/ledge above the sink to put all my hair stuff, and a small corner shower. Emphasis on small! I am an average size girl and could barely turn around! Lol! Also, there was nowhere to put my shampoo and stuff except for on the floor. The towels were amazing! Very plush, soft, and big!! Other than the shower, the only other thing that kept me from giving the Westin 5 stars was the room temperature. It seemed to keep cool in the evenings, but starting around 3-4am my husband and I would keep waking up hot and the room was hot all morning as we were getting ready for the day. It was like they turned the air conditioning off at a certain time or something then turned it back on later. Our room was clean everyday when we returned! We also had a problem with the shower draining that was fixed immediately when we notified housekeeping! The concierge was so helpful to us in helping us find places and giving restaurant recommendations. I want to give a shout out to Jenny at the front desk for helping me when we had an issue with one of our tours! She was absolutely incredible and helped us get to our tour before they left without us! Thank you, Jenny! You saved the day!! I would definitely stay at this hotel again! Pretty good hotel. We stayed here for our first 2 nights in Dublin. The staff was very friendly! My sister and I had 2 big suitcases and since the room only came with one luggage rack (as is standard), the bellhop went to get one more, saying "it isn't fair only one has one". So that was very nice! The rooms were nice but the only thing I didn't like too much was the white tea scent that they have all on overload in the lobby and really, the entire hotel. I have terrible allergies that were fine when outdoors, but once I was back inside the hotel, my allergies started up again. So I feel like they might want to take that into consideration because not everyone is good with strong scents all over the hotel. The bar downstairs was cool - had my first Irish coffee there and it was super yummy! We had the breakfast buffet but it wasn't anything great - I would probably choose to go out to the city centre and try out a restaurant instead, which we did the second morning. Lucky me, my boyfriend is a super hotel user. We stayed here for 4 days in Dublin in a clean, smoke free suite with a private balcony. The staff was nice enough to upgrade us to this when we arrived. Everything was clean and continued to stay clean because of the great daily housekeepers. Our shower drain clogged and was fixed in no time. I highly suggest staying here if you're in Dublin. The Westin is such a cute hotel and is super fancy on the inside. My mom and I got a room with two cozy beds and the bathroom was big enough to live in with a separate shower and a jacuzzi like bathtub. I slept like a baby in my own bed and wished I could bring both the shower and tub home with me. The service is super friendly, the bellman would always brighten upon seeing my mom and I when we got back from exploring and they all have tags with their names and passions on them to encourage conversations. The breakfast in the morning is amazing. It's buffet style (you can order off of a menu as well if you like) where you can get delicious Irish bacon, eggs, button mushrooms (a huge staple diet in Ireland and are super tasty); and also has a variety of breads and fruits and fresh yogurts as well. You don't leave hungry! The hotel is also conveniently near Temple Bar and Trinity College so you can go out and have a pint or some pub food or go over to the college to check out the Book of Kells. Great location, great people, great rooms, and great service. Highly recommend! Green Features: They encourage you to reuse your towel and have a place where you put your card to activate the lights to ensure the lights go off and not use energy while you're gone. read more

Afternoon tea... tough life! What a beautiful setting for an afternoon tea - the balcony area in the Westin Hotel is bright and airy with the feeling that you are sitting outside whilst in! Decent afternoon tea affair, with tasty morsels and attentive staff. Not as substantial or fancy as the one in The Merrion (but that is the bar to measure by), but this is a more reasonably priced offer. I haven't ever stayed here but was brought here for my birthday by my wonderful Fiancé for their most peculiar afternoon tea. Firstly it must be mentioned how beautiful this place is, roaring fire as you walk in from the freezing cold outside & a beautifully decorated atrium where we sat for afternoon tea. When we sat down & ordered they asked if we would like a glass of prosecco while we waited (obviously not for free, but still a nice touch). At one point one of the waiters asked if we would like our picture taken which I thought was a really nice touch too. When the food itself came it was absolutely to die for. As was the afternoon tea because you see with this most peculiar afternoon tea your teapot is filled with Mojitos instead of tea! On the top tier was the savoury food - which in itself is unusual as the savoury is normally the bottom (& largest) tray - & not a sandwich in sight! Confit of pork cheek, prawn cocktail, spiced roast beef wrap, smoked salmon with caviar & black olive & tomato tapenade. All bite sized. All delicious. Tier two was banana & walnut bread with cinnamon & honey butter. I am NOT a banana bread fan but this stuff was delicious! & so well complemented by the honey butter. Tier three included a tarragon cookie (this was just a mouthful of sugar, not entirely unpleasant but definitely one for the sugar fans), popping vanilla marshmallows (a throwback to your childhood while keeping it classy, loved these), almond & redcurrant frangipane tarte, chocolate & caramel seasalt brownie and, the star of the show for me, popcorn panna cotta topped with toffee popcorn crumble.... Just the most unbelievable flavour i've ever experienced! Everything on the day was perfect, from the flavours of the food, to the mojito tea to the prosecco (which we had 2 glasses of, one before & one after). The staff were great, the service was excellent & I never once felt rushed or obliged to leave despite the fact that they were quite clearly fully booked. The only reason I'm docking one star is because I would have expected more savoury food & the little bite-sized portions of each item didn't do much for one with a big appetite (which my fiancé certainly has). A handfull of sandwiches or something slightly more substantial in the savoury layer certainly wouldn't have gone amiss. I will definitely be back! read more

Had afternoon tea in the Westin to celebrate my upcoming nuptials thanks to my lovely lady friends. There are two types on offer, a traditional afternoon tea and the peculiar afternoon tea and they have vegetarian options for both! Hurrah. I was so happy! So we got one of each to get us in the mood. The service was spot on at the start but we did feel that the staff kind of lost interest in us as the tea continued. The sandwiches and cakes were delicious with a good variety of treats, my personal favourites being the macaron and chocolate mousse. The star of the show were the gin mojitos served in a tea pot, the special feature of the peculiar afternoon tea. They are delicious and so refreshing. I'd go back tomorrow in a heartbeat. read more

We were offered two different menu options the peculiar one which comes with a Hendricks gin cocktail in a teapot! The other menu was a lovely festive menu filled with Xmas themed bites. We picked a selection and everyone (all 10 of us) were really thrilled with the choices. We did think the olive tapenade needed a few more breadsticks but that was all. Staff is friendly and professional and the establishment is immaculately clean and well maintained. The location is perfect for business travelers and equally as good for leisure. Located in the City's center it is an excellent place to start day trips in-and-around Dublin and remains quiet and relaxing inside. They have taken a former bank and created a masterpiece and model for other hotels to ascend to. The Mint Bar is a must, offering drinks and excellent food in a great atmosphere. Had I realized it was there I would have dined there more than once, as it offers the perfect setting and bill of fare after a long day. read more

My husband and I stayed here when we booked our trip through Costco. We had a great experience. It is located directly across from Temple Bar and next to Trinity College. The staff is friendly and courteous. They gave us a may of the city and when they found out it was our anniversary they sent us cheesecake and other goodies. This hotels location is wonderful, right in the heart of the city on College Green by Trinity College an excellent choice for those who don't want to stay in harsh Temple Bar. The hotel is in a historic building and has a dramatic five story glass roofed atrium lounge which is overlooked by many guest rooms and reminiscent of a gentrified Georgian courtyard. It really is a sight to behold and a glorious place to be on a sunny afternoon. The chandelier strewn ceiling of the grand Banking Hall is fabulous too as the hotel use to be the Allied Irish Bank. Great location. Good sized and nice bathroom. My main issue was the room cleaning. We stayed six nights, which means the room should be cleaned five times. Our room was only cleaned three times. Two of the three times it was cleaned only after I called the front desk. The third time it was cleaned only after I called the front desk, left for four hours, came back and it still wasn't done, then went to the front desk on the way to dinner, and then it was only half cleaned. On one of the days it wasn't cleaned I left the hotel for six hours and thought...there's no way it won't be cleaned when I get back. It wasn't cleaned. I've never experienced this in a hotel stay. If not for this I would have given the hotel four or five stars. I probably would stay again, but doubt I'll ever be back to Dublin. read more

The first night we had an interior room and the air conditioning did not work well. We didn't realize it until we woke up, but we were unable to sleep well. My husband and I stayed during a quick weekend trip in November and couldn't have been happier with our choice of accommodations. The Westin Dublin's rooms are up to date, clean and well-appointed. Noise levels were minimal and the bed was, as usual, Heavenly. The breakfast buffet at this hotel is not to be missed! Concierge service was incredibly helpful and friendly and got us booked on a tour that we might have otherwise missed. (That said, make sure to stick to the concierge staff for advice and recommendations as a desk staffer incorrectly informed my husband that he did not require reservations at a certain restaurant and we missed out.) There is free wifi in the lobby and paid in rooms. Finally, it should be noted that there is quite of a bit of construction going on in Dublin (2015) and to the street outside of The Westin Dublin. If anyone is a stickler for first impressions, the current set up might throw them off a bit. That said, the hotel is within walking distance of so much. Trinity College, Grafton Street, nightlife galore, public transportation if your feet get sore. read more

Stayed 3 nights - great bedding as always ..Very clean and modern hotel , staff was superb. Good central location if you want to hit the tourist spots - museums , shopping , Bus tours , Trinity , St. Patrick's -walking distance to all, Temple Bar, all the good pubs and restaurants. Special shout to Alan ( Doorman) he is wealth of knowledge of the local restaurants , museums , pubs - each time he hit the bullseye with his recommendations! The hotel is close to City Centre, Trinity College and the shops / restaurants at Grafton Street. The hotel room was clean but the bathroom was too small with the toilet behind the door, and I had to close the door in other to use it. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. I selected a Make a Green Choice program and they cleaned my room on the 4 day and I had an option to get 5 eu or point or donate. 4 stars because the gym machines' display only worked for games, not for TV , and this issue was not fixed during my stay. Also, be aware if you call local numbers, you will be charged a crazy amount, 18 euros for a 10 min conversation. read more

I stayed a total of 12 days at Westin. Comparing to many other Westin hotels I've stayed at in United States and other SPG properties in similar category, Westin Dublin stands out among others simply because of its people. Their reception (both day and night shifts), housekeeping, concierge, and even the doormen, are all extremely good at their job. Each time I had a question or needed something, they paid great attention to detail and made sure I was actually happy with what I was looking for. The best part of my mornings was the breakfast at Exchange restaurant, specially when their hostess Eimear was working. She always remembered my breakfast order along with the special requests. There is another gentleman who is a host at The Exchange (can't remember his name), he is very professional, and remembers most of his guests' by their name. Both of them manage everything smoothly and flawlessly when it gets really busy. Their fitness center is decent, hotel location is great (right by Trinity college), wifi is fast and Mint bar is nice. I do feel that they can work on the ambience of their lobby a little bit. I stayed at another hotel for a couple days after checking out from Westin, and although it was good overall but there's no match for the staff at Westin Dublin. read more

The Westin Dublin is located in the city centre close to Trinity College and the shops / restaurants at Grafton Street. The hotel room are nicely done - renovated for an older building. I have stayed here three times and twice I have gotten rooms that were of good size - some rooms tend to be a little cramped, so one should review before the booking. The staff is super friendly. The room service is fast - usually will bring up the food in 20 minutes or so. I am taking a star off because of a snafu on my reservation - I had booked a room midweek, which was cancelled (not by me) and the issue was not resolved. Per Westin the cancellation came from my corporate travel agent, but they informed me otherwise. read more

We stay here for the location: right next to Trinity, across from Temple Bar, and right over the cool pub in the old bank vault in the basement (all of Bill's colleagues like that pub). Of course, I can't remember the name, but there's a great cafe in Temple Bar where we always have delicious Eggs Benedict. (I'll figure out the name when we're there this summer.) The rooms are nice, and I hear the suites are great. read more

**This Review is just for the Afternoon Tea they serve** Having Afternoon Tea at a posh Hotel is one of those things that I absolutely love to do every few months. It gives me an excuse to wear an extra nice dress and my fancy heels. So when I walked into The Westin for Traditional Afternoon Tea, I was very excited and had high expectations (after having had a wonderful experience at The Westbury Hotel a few months ago). We had reserved in advance (recommended, if you still want to come here after reading the review, that is) and were shown a table in the corner of the Atrium, which was a bit more quiet. The waiter who had greeted us wasn't overwhelmingly friendly, but alright. He handed us menus and it took his colleague a good 10 minutes until he took our order. We opted for the traditional afternoon tea (they also have the "Most Peculiar Afternoon Tea" with some not-so-traditional foods) and both wanted tea instead of coffee. When I asked the waiter what sort of teas they had, he briskly replied "Well. English Breakfast Tea. And then I suppose we have Green tea, Peppermint, Earl Grey and I think Camomile..." I opted for the Green tea, although I was slightly irritated at this point already - the menu had said "Choose from a wide range of teas and coffees" so my question about the teas shouldn't have been unexpected.... It took about ten minutes for the tea & food to arrive, and I'll just go with bullet points here. + Tea was served loose in a glass pot. Now, everyone who has had Green tea before knows that it shouldn't steep for longer than 2 mins. This, however, was impossible as there was no tea strainer and thus, I was unable to remove the loose tea leaves. I ended up not being able to drink the rest of my tea because it was way too bitter. + Selection of food was good, the sandwiches were tasty and so were the scones and the lemon poppyseed loaf. The desserts were OK, some of them way too sweet - the red velvet cupcake had too much frosting and too little dough. + Service was very, very inattentive and therefore, really brought the whole experience down. Not once were we asked whether we wanted something else or whether everything was alright while we were eating. We had finished our food and teas for about 15 minutes until one of the waiters came over and asked us whether we wanted more water for our tea. We did, but that didn't make the tea more drinkable. + We were ready to pay and leave, but after 20 minutes of throwing very obvious looks at the waiter, we finally gave up and stood up to walk over to the Bar and pay our bill. This was probably the tip of the iceberg for me. This is a 5 Star Hotel, but the service is that of a Youth Hostel. I've rarely experienced such inattentive service at Hotels. Not refilling drinks, not asking whether the food is OK, not asking whether we'd like to order something else, not recognizing the universally known signs for "I WANT TO PAY!!!" - totally unacceptable in my books. We weren't the only ones experiencing this - when I had a look around, we saw several tables waiting to either order food, pay their bills or waiting for more drinks. Considering that Afternoon Tea is quite pricey, I would have expected way more. Food was nice and so was the Atmosphere in the Atrium, but the bad service really prevents me from ever going back there again. read more

I had a great stay at the Westin Dublin. The rates were entirely reasonable (after a little bargain hunting), the location is perfect, the rooms -- particularly the bathrooms -- are spacious, and the service was impeccable and polite. Sure, everything feels a little dated and old school, especially the hotel-style carpeting in the rooms, but I'd happily stay here any day of the week given the quality of care. Internet costs more, but you'll manage. There's also a functional gym on the first floor, and a great bar in the basement. read more

My wife and I have been loyal Starwood Members since 2003 and fortunate to have Elite status for 4 years now. During this time we have enjoyed many fabulous experiences across their member hotels. The Westin brand has always been our favorite and the Westin Dublin lived up to most of our expectations. I'll start with the positives: 1.) FABULOUS location, stumbling distance to the Temple Bar area 2.) the Atrium Bar is a beautiful spot to unwind or enjoy afternoon tea. (the Peculiar Tea menu is fantastic. Two words: Gin Mojito). 3.) Heavenly bed was indeed heavenly 4.) Helpful and courteous porters. They undertook the daunting task of moving our 7 bags of luggage. (we are relocating to Ireland for several months and Dublin was our temporary base) Now onto the not so positives. Traveling to Ireland from Philadelphia, PA is a journey to say the least, and by the time we arrived at the Westin (approx. 9:30am on June 1st), my wife and I were a bit delirious from the jet lag. Despite requesting an early check-in with our reservation, we were told that there were no rooms currently available. However, if we PAID for one of their upgraded rooms we could check-in immediately. This was perplexing since one of the benefits of our Gold Status is an upgraded room based on availability. So clearly upgraded rooms were available, but only for a FEE. We challenged the front desk agent briefly about this, but felt the fight was not worth it since we were both beyond exhaustion. The front desk agent then told us we would be able to get into our room in about two hours. We again suppressed our rage because of exhaustion. The agent suggested going out to eat or tour the city, these options were not appealing since we only wanted a bed. We declined her suggestion and told her we would wait right there in the lobby until our room was available. We were making ourselves at home and settling in for a nap when MIRACULOUSLY a room opened up! (about 10 minutes later) Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. The agent's reaction was "You never know how quickly these rooms get ready!" Her comment was simply not genuine...and I hope that for Starwood's sake that she was simply not well experienced/trained rather then being ignorant as it came across. But our poor experience with the front desk did not end with our arrival; our checkout experience was also a disappointment. Our bill portfolio was handed to us in an envelope. Luckily we opened it and inspected the bill because we noticed that we were charged for a three-night stay, when our reservation was booked as pay for two, receive a third night free. When we notified the agent of the mistake, she offered no apology and seemed annoyed that we had questioned the bill. After making the fix, we received a new bill, but still no apology. To add further insult to injury, a few days later, I reviewed the bill again and saw that we were charged 29.00 Euro for "Refreshment Centre Bev." I'm assuming this charge was from the bottle of wine, I slightly touched in the mini bar. We must have overlooked this upon checkout because we were too busy dealing with the room overcharge. So two words of warning: 1.) Review your bill thoroughly and 2.)Don't touch ANYTHING in the mini bar unless you are prepared to be charged. Normally, the staff at Starwood properties (especially Westins) go out of their way to make you feel appreciated, either by offering a smile and enthusiastic greeting or recognizing you as a Gold Preferred Guest upon check-in. Neither of which occurred during our visit. Certainly, most Starwood staff would admit to a mistake or apologize when the experience is not ideal - we didn't get that "warm and fuzzy" vibe at all here. There were a few exceptions, namely the porters and the bar tenders. The trio on staff in the Mint Bar during the evening of June 3rd was fantastic! When I told them of my peanut allergy, they immediately came back and offered me a bowl of chips without me even asking. THANKS GUYS! I'm just sorry, I never wrote down their names. This stay will by no means stop us from staying at Starwood properties; this was probably (we hope) a one off. But, I can't help but feel cheated a bit from my "REST EASY" experience that the Westin boasts. In addition, I'm a bit cautious about recommending this property to our friends who will be traveling to Ireland to visit us during the upcoming summer months. read more

I loved this hotel our room was great, the location was centrally located to everything and all the staff was so friendly and polite opening the doors for us and the restaurants inside are great too. Our friends room was across the other side and he had all the old historic antique original lamps and bathroom and bedroom decor in his room he really enjoyed it that way. we had ours in the modern side. read more
