Rink is small and it's expensive for ice skating. They take your shoes as collateral, which would be okay if you didn't have to walk down steps to get to the rink. Nice vibe at night. read more

I haven't set foot on an ice skating rink is well over a decade, so I thought "why not try ice skating again"! lol Came on a Monday evening. Was not crowded. You get your skate rentals and pay next to the Water Taxi and not actually down near the rink. You leave your shoes with them in exchange for the skates. All of the staff were super friendly, helpful, fun and nice! I held on to the railings while I went around lol. Got better by the 2nd time around. There was a woman who fell and twisted her leg and the staff on duty immediately went out on the ice to help her and called other staff over. They were prepared and ready to call 911 and everything. read more

Small family-friendly outdoor ice rink located at the Wharf. It's a really scenic location at the waterfront. Came here on a Saturday with friends and it was much less busy closer to opening time than after 3pm. For the 2023-24 winter season, admissions pricing is at $13 for adults, $10 for children, and $8 for skate rentals. Locker rental is $3 for one-time use (you get a token). This pricing is a little more expensive than the Sculpture Garden and Washington Harbour, but admissions is valid the whole day--great deal if you have your own skates and want to leave the area and come back later in the day. They resurface the ice about every 1.5 hours. My main complaint is its size - of the rink and the overall area. More of a 3.5 star overall. The rental/check out booth is located up a flight of stairs from the rink and they keep your shoes if you rent skates, making it more difficult to walk around without getting your socks wet or get up and down stairs with skates on. There is a decent amount of seating, but it can get busy on the weekend. read more

There are a handful of ice rinks in Washington, D.C.- this one, Canal Park, Georgetown Waterfront and National Gallery of Art's Sculpture Garden. We've been to all three and here's how this one ranks: 1) Views: Compared to the others, this one offers beautiful views of the waterfront and the Washington Monument peeking out from the buildings. The Sculpture Garden's rink has a stunning view of the National Archives, but this one is even more stunning, especially with the holiday decorations. 2) Price: This one is $15-$18 per person for admission and skate rentals. $6 for a "helper" for kids. (Sculpture Garden is $14-$15, Georgetown is $16-$17 and Canal Park is $15-$16 per person.) 3) Amenities: There are public restrooms onsite and plenty of dining options nearby, including a s'more trailer with a fire pit. For hot chocolate, several options exist, but we enjoyed the thick hot chocolate from Praline Bakery near the Canopy. read more

The rink opened yesterday. So far smooth sailing for the skaters and it is well monitored to ensure people are not playing on their phones on the ice, but rather are ice skating. Save the selfies for later. This is a free skate type rink, so everyone will be doing their own thing. Employees of the rink are nice, but somewhat clueless on much else involving ice skating. There was one guy who knew how to skate and the other 2 didn't know how to. Why hire people to work at an ice rink who don't know how to skate? What if someone hurts themselves and the require immediate attention? Walk on ice over to see how they are or skate??? Skate obviously, in my opinion. If you work at an ice rink, I think this should be a requirement that they know how to skate a little bit. Admission for general public is $10 & is discounted from there for seniors, active military and children. Come out and enjoy! The best part is that there is no time limit on skating. read more

This place was great it was my second time skating and so I was new to it but I eventually got Used to it. The view at sunset is incredible and their were aids for new skaters the rink was well maintained and there were lots of benches on the outside of the rink. There also were a ton of restaurants close by. The staff were all nice and I enjoyed my time there. read more

Worst experience ever... the staff and general manger are the most rude group of people - screaming at patrons, raising their voices and penalizing those who can skate. The general manager literally yelled at me when I spoke in a quote tone. Asked for a refund and she said 'no way'. They have rules however no one tells you when you buy entrance what the rules are and rather have their staff screaming with bull horns at patrons when they are actually skating carefully and know what they are doing. They also say when you put that wrist band on you sign a waiver.,, I did not sign anything or told it was a waiver...Skip skip these rude people and go somewhere else. read more

The novelty of an ice rink on the water at the brand new Wharf = 5. The poor design of the facilities = 1. Brought my skates (yes I have my own) down to SW on the MLK holiday. Admission is $10 (there are discounts for students, seniors, military). Locker rental is $3. Skate rental is $6. Pros (and tips): -Go at sunset. It's stunning to be on the ice overlooking the water with a gorgeous orange sun setting leaving a pink sky. **PERFECT TO IMPRESS. DATE TIP ;) ** -For under $20 per person, I think it's a good deal. -Music is played (top 40 for the most part) -Lights are strung above the rink really making it pretty -Hours stay open post sunset for night skating! Cons: -Only one railing in the area to go down the steps to the ice from where you get your skates. Bottleneck. -It's not a big rink. Can get crowded. -No skate guards. No rules. -No benches in the area where you receive skates and hand over your shoes. You are instructed to either struggle to put on with laced skates (surprised they didn't buy the ones with clips) leaning against a wall or a window ledge OR, as recommended by staff, to walk outside in YOUR SOCKS to the benches to put them on. (snow or ice on the walkway? your problem.) If you have a child who is new to skating, they had at least three "penguins" (skating aides to hold onto) I noticed on the side of the rink. When I was there it seemed they were for general use but their website says skating aides are $5. It's definitely a mix of people who have never skated before and those who can hold their own. Without skate guards or any "rules" posted, you may encounter the groups who don't know how to skate and are linked arms...when one goes down, they all do and people behind them can't stop...you see where I'm going with this right? I provided feedback on the railing and benches to the staff. I feel pretty confident nothing will be done so I responded to the one question survey that came to my email with my receipt. Will update if anybody responds. That being written, I'd go back. That sunset, WORTH IT. read more

Rented a piece of plastic for a kid who was struggling mighty. Immediately realized it was too short to work and returned it. Total elapsed time was maybe 75 seconds. No refund. Certainly their right, but hopefully karma catches up with the business owner. read more

This rink is one of the best ones I've been to. The location is a great place to watch the sunset on the water, in addition to seeing planes coming in and out of DCA. It is rather expensive, over $15 for admission and rental, but there are no time restrictions and, as far as DC ice rinks go, there's a much smaller crowd. On one of my visits, my group were the only people there. read more

The Wharf Ice Rink opened last night, and my husband and I couldn't be more impressed! The line was long, but moved quickly and the staff all went above and beyond making customer service a priority. The process of getting/returning the tickets and skate rentals was easy and efficient. The rink itself is large enough to accommodate pretty large crowds and is right on the water, making for beautiful views! The staff members that stay on the rink patrolling skaters were beyond helpful and freely offered skating advise for all those (including me!) who were struggling a bit. We will definitely be back before the season ends!! read more

Wow I don't know about the good reviews. The ice, OK it's not ice slush is horrible, the employees are nice but clueless. The ice rink at Pentagon Row is much better, the ice is smooth and it's never super crowded. We literally waddled for 15 mins in slush until they decided to bring he zamboni but not even a pass fixed the surface. Now 30 mins later we are watching a crew of very slow employees trying to smooth the ice. I mean they keep apologizing but seriously, it's ice...you keep it cold and it works. Either way, don't wast your money here, come for the drinks and people watching and if you want to ice skate go to Pentagon Row. read more

Trying to nickel and dime families wanting to skate. So expensive and policies are not clear. YThe rink is a great idea and in a fun location. However, be aware of the cost. It's ridiculous and the information is not clearly posted anywhere. We visited the rink with family and knew we had family members coming to visit and would need to take a break for a bit to see them for a coffee. We checked when renting the skates and buying admission about how long everything was good for since the fees are so high. We were assured "admission" is good all day. No one mentioned that they take your shoes and you cannot take a break from skates without paying the rental fee again. The information is not online nor posted in the facility. We asked for them to allow us to take a break and we're going to put the skates in a locker but the lockers wouldn't work. They agreed to hold the skates for us and when we returned the manager changed her mind and said sorry you were gone too long and you have to rent the skates again. The skate rink was not crowded and they were not struggling to have enough rentals available. They simply wanted to get more money out of us. My little girl was heartbroken as we thought we could skate again. In retrospect, they employees were very careful to tell us admission is good all day and not clarifying the skate rental issue. The information needs to be clearer and they should change the policy of charging for skate rentals multiple times during admission. Totally ridiculous and the manager should not change her mind once she agrees to something with a customer. We won't be back. read more
