I overheard him speaking to one of the favorite and well known skate instructors with a nasty tone. During this same visit he got snappy with me as well. MUST'VE WOKE UP ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BED. I heard many complaints about how he runs out on the rink floor policing in an aggressive manner. He also has passed this behavior on to his Saturday afternoon skate guard. Customer service everything these days. Skating is supposed to be a therapeutic and safe place. I've tried many times over the last few months to visit this place but I do believe this is my last visit. I'd rather drive to Laurel and be treated with respect.

Perfect price and within a few blocks walk. We enjoyed skating and even upped our skills using the adult sized PVC pipe skating helpers. Both is us have quad skated much of our lives, so learning to skate backwards, spin, hockey stop and power slide are all on our list. We had ample.space to play around in the center of the ice and felt awesome trying to adapt to the space. Staff were attentive to skaters helping those who fall back up. We're keep this on our annual visit activity list.

In all seriousness, it's a decent-sized skating rink with cute snowflake lighting above and nice surrounding shops and eateries, such as TJ Maxx, DSW, and Basic Burger. Actually, it's on the smaller end, but I think there's a limit to the number of people that can be out there at once, since we were given stickers to display while we were in the ice, and these stickers had a time at which our reservation expired (I think). My bros, my bro's gf, and I had a blast going 'round and 'round, initially holding onto the rails (at least my bro's gf and I had to), before acclimating and being able to skate closer to the middle of the rink. We made reservations on the phone about a day prior, and were tended to and able to get our skates immediately when we got there. They have these standing training wheels that you can skate with (some look like penguins). I don't really know how to describe them or what to call them besides that. Anyway, my bro's gf was more gradual with gaining her balance on the ice, and she thought it was unfair that only little kids were allowed to be able to use these training equipment. I noted a few skate guards on the ice; good to know there are individuals out there presumably to ensure skaters' safe leisure. After skating for about an hour or so, we enjoyed some hot chocolate and ice cream (never too cold!) at Mimi's ice cream parlor just outside the rink.

The ticketing system IS CONFUSING AND NOT designed well at all. There is no phone number, so hopefully you can read and use the internet. You need to register for a DPR account, and upload proof of residency if you reside in DC and want the resident pricing. The people who verify your residency are working weekdays. The site states it may take 7-10 days to be approved. Everyone who creates an account will automatically be a non-resident until they're approved. If you're planning to participate, CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT WEEKS BEFOREHAND. Other than that, it's pretty simple. The staff scans your ticket upstairs, you get your rental skates and go on the ice! I was not informed that figure skates existed. That would've been helpful since the hockey skates were a bit uncomfortable for me. I'm glad they have options though.

It's not Metro accessible, explaining why many people don't know about it, but there is a large free parking lot next door as well as a Capital Bikeshare dock. The space itself is clearly built in a different era, but they have maintained it well for not having a lot of funding. A non-profit runs the arena and it is mainly used for non-profit programming for youth who ice skate. However, they keep the ice rink open every day from 9am-4pm and rentals are affordable ($5 for adults and $4 for seniors and youth). If you're looking for a fun, family activity in DC, check the Ice Arena out. It's such a fun thing to do!

So it's a blast for kids for sure -- literally a city with a bunch of different setups for young children. There's a salon, restaurant, karaoke station, hockey field... and even more I can't recall. They have a couple rooms for hosting big parties like what I attended too. The hockey field and basketball room were kid friendly, but definitely could cater to adults as well. Technically karaoke too for those who like to sing (like me). The staff there are very professional and made sure that everything ran smoothly on our end. I think they're the ones who provided the pizza? All and all, I have quite a few friends who are parents, and I'll be telling them about this place.
