Nice whiskey collection. Great cocktails. Food looks good, I didn't eat. Small parking lot. Pretty busy on a Tuesday night. This location recently opened. There is a location in Sacketts Harbor. Busy. A little loud and raucous. Cocktails 10 to 18 bucks.

    Skimp much?

12.31.25 Zero response. // // // // 12.21.25 Still no response, 19 days later (remember this if you have an issue folks - they don't care) // // // // 12.02.25 @ 7:30 pm Watertown, New York location. My daughter and her party of four - and a to go order. Five meals. The to-go order was for me - as I was fill in babysitter for the evening. Very pricey for Watertown, NY. I looked online when they asked me to pick out dinner. Shocked. One of the four dinners the party ordered consisted of an extremely dry piece of chicken (which was described as hollow). Smash burger was good, but $20 plus dollars? My daughter ordered the "Derby salad" to-go (aka, Cobb) for me and got maybe a cup of wilted spring mix spread out in a plastic bowl - with a few crumbs of Bleu cheese or Gorgonzola, walnuts and what I think are dates. Not the Derby - by any stretch. See pics. To make matters worse, I almost broke my tooth on a nut (I think it was a nut). There's no way I'm touching that pathetic excuse for a $23 salad. There's $3 worth of ingredients. I live in Orlando and the salad pictured below is max, $10. No meat. Wilted lettuce. Awful. $23??????? Somebody in the kitchen saw this to-go dish and said it was okay to send it out. Unacceptable quality. Apps: fried pickle spears - a grand total of four fried pickle "slivers" (@ $15) and corn fritters (hush puppies in the south) - six small balls for four people. Another @$15. I'm saving this salad in the off chance that management wants to see it - including the thing that almost broke my tooth. My daughter shared her take home chicken sandwich. Overcooked and thin. Tasted like fish - as did her fries. Clearly not cooking the fish in a designated fryer. Dear Lord. Total bill: $212 plus tip. In Watertown, New York?????? Wow. This town is ripe for a real restaurant experience. Better yet, move to Florida - a free state.

Chicken wasn't fully cooked. The classic chicken sandwich was all Kaiser bread taste, the insides were meager, this wouldn't fill up a 10-year old kid. Sad because Sackets Harbor location was really good.

The shrimp was way over cooked. The sauce tasted like mole sauce. No a good shrimp and grits meal at all.

Upon entering we found a really cute place with tables and some bar seating. It has a cute and casual atmosphere with popular songs playing but in blue grass style. It wasn't busy because they just opened for the day so we were seated immediately. We were happy to see they carried beer from Wayland, a local brewery from our area. We ordered drinks and food and it came out quickly. Our server was attentive and was able to speak to all our menu questions to ensure we got what we needed. I ordered a class of Pinot Grigio and the Martha salad with grilled chicken. It was absolutely delicious, very flavorful and tasty. The cilantro and dates were a nice add on to a salad. The dates were a nice sweet contrast to the salty goat cheese. I was impressed that they had a lot of healthy and gf options that were wonderful and didn't feel like an afterthought on the menu. I am told the blackstrap bbq chicken sandwich was wonderful. The chicken and onion straws were nice and crispy. The bbq sauce wasn't overpowering but added a nice addition to the sandwich. The onion ring on top was a huge bonus and the fries were perfection, possibly the star of the show. I'd highly recommend if you are in the area. We hope to be able to come back another time soon.

The vintage diner feel was cozy, and the Coca-Cola light fixtures were unique. Each table also had its own vintage jukebox. We came on a busy Sunday morning, but got lucky and were sat right away. From the beginning, and throughout our experience, the staff were very friendly. Our sever brought us drinks within minutes, and we were able to put in our orders pretty quick. Like I said, it was a busy Sunday, so it took awhile for us to receive our food. But this gave my wife and I time to talk, and enjoy the ambiance. I ordered the breakfast lasagna (had never seen this before) with white toast and a side of corned beef hash. When the food came out, it was warm and fresh. The breakfast lasagna had a nice flavor from the peppers and onions and meats that were baked inside. The base was made from what seemed like mashed potatoes which threw me off a little, but wasn't bad. The toast had a good toast to it, and was nicely buttered. I am a corned beef hash lover, and Shorty's was pretty good! The flavors meshed well together and the texture was great. My wife ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits which was not great. The sausage gravy was lacking flavor, with the main taste being cream. The sausage within the gravy was cut up sausage links, and for myself and my wife at least, we prefer ground sausage. Lastly, the biscuits were nothing to write home about. They were not bad but they didn't wow. Overall, I gave Shorty's a three because the food didn't wow me. There was not anything wrong with the food we had at all, and we will probably be back in the future to try some of their other food. Otherwise, my wife and I also loved the feel of the diner itself.

Before you even open the door, the vintage neon sign proudly advertising "Air Conditioned for Your Comfort" makes you smile and reminds you of an era when air conditioning was a luxury worth bragging about. Inside, the restaurant has done a wonderful job preserving its history. The original pressed tin ceiling, beautiful woodwork, mosaic tile floor, vintage lighting, and classic booths create an atmosphere that is difficult to find anymore. You can tell this isn't a place trying to look old--it is old, and it has been lovingly maintained. If you appreciate historic architecture, take a few minutes to look around. It's worth it. Service was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. My daughter enjoyed her eggs, sausage, and toast, while I had a bacon, egg, and bacon sandwich on toast with mayonnaise, along with a bowl of oatmeal and a cup of coffee. Everything was fresh and satisfying. My only minor suggestion would be that I would have liked my toast a little more done, especially since my daughter's was toasted just the way I prefer. It certainly wasn't enough to take away from the experience. The Crystal Restaurant has been serving the Watertown community since 1925, and it's easy to understand why it has become such a local landmark. Places with this much history and character are becoming increasingly rare. If you're looking for a good breakfast served in a restaurant with genuine historic charm, the Crystal Restaurant is well worth a visit.
