Most hotels offer shower only rooms after remodeling. Breakfast in the hotel was amazing; included fresh fruits and juices, the traditional Irish entrees or you could opt for pancakes. Every meal includes potatoes; good potatoes. Something special about this hotel is the lavender balm. I meant to request more before I left. You rub this on your wrists or neck before bed and it is supposed to relax you and promote better sleep. It smells so good.

We dined in he second night from the buffet and found the food to be excellent, especially the desserts which included beautiful profiteroles filled with creme patisserie (not cream which is a sin) and a wedge of cheese cake which was light and delicious, melting in the mouth making you feel like having a second one would not hurt the waist line too much. Every member of staff from the cleaning staff to duty managers always greeted us with a smile and a friendly hello and you are really made feel at home while staying there. The rooms are warm, comfortable and modern making each night after a hectic day a joy to return to. The hotel ensures that all guests are catered for especially the children with nightly activities organised for all the family which included a kids disco and bingo. We attended the kids disco with DJ Richie B who really entertained the kids giving out prizes and covering children with snow from his snow machine while playing frozen songs. The furnishings and designs are things you would expect to see in films. My favorite rooms were probably the Bottlery (wine room) and The Buttery (the kitchen). Their castle dog, Ri, was super adorable and roamed around as if he owns the place. Some castles can feel intimidating but this place felt very intimate and homey. If only I could live there forever....

We had one castle room and one carriage room for our stay. Both rooms were quaint and well maintained. The gardens around the property are gorgeous and wonderful to explore during nice weather. The only thing to note is that in off-season the main restaurant is only open on the weekends and the tea service is not available during the week. While we enjoyed the food at Hermione's, the day we stayed there was a group event closing the main restaurant so we had to eat in the bar area. Most of the activities are off the property which wasn't very clear as we approached the date of our stay. We ended up visiting the National Stud Farm (about 30 minutes drive) and the clay pigeon shooting (about 40 minutes drive). Highly recommend both activities and really appreciate the staff helping us arrange these activities. The downstairs bar area is open late with a delicious charcuterie and board games are available to use by the fireplace which was a fun way to spend the later evening hours. The staff are very attentive and there is parking (just dont forget to get your ticket validated before you leave). The lounge has big comfy seats and is very cosy, they also do a good carvery every day (although if you are staying there I believe the food stops at about 9pm so make sure you eat before that). I had a beautiful veggy soup with brown bread for lunch there yesterday and it was light and tasty but just what I needed to fill me up. This place gets a thumbs up from me!

Upon arriving I was immediately greeted by Karen. She made me feel so very Welcome. She explained everything about the hotel and the town. Chelsie also helped me get checked in also. The staff is incompetent, there was no manager on sight for 4 hours, the staff says he will be here at 6... doesn't show up until after 8. The room is so small there is less than a meter beside the bed, the elevator has to be a safety issue and the bathroom is rusting. Please spend your money somewhere else, there are many other places in/closer to Dublin that are MUCH nicer and less expensive.
