I got the bangers and mash while by wife got the cottage pie. I think I got the better meal as the sausages were really tasty and the whole grain mustard in the potatoes was a great way to elevate the potatoes. Her cottage pie was fine but didn't have a ton of flavor. Food came out surprisingly quickly, but we also had an order of chips which was crazy slow to come out of the kitchen. The chips were quite good but we'd both finished our entire meals and most of our beers by the time we got them. Beer options were solid, some good German choices. Beer was cheap too.

This place is not trying to play up on an image like many of the bars in this areas and sticks instead to the important business of being a damn fine pub. Being quite small there is a naturally cosy feel to the place and this is complimented by the decor wuth lots of wood panelling and comfy seats. The bar has a great selection of draft and bottled beers and, for the summer months, there is an excellent beer garden. I've yet to try the food but they do serve traditional pub grub between 12 and 5 Tuesday through Sunday. With a great atmosphere, warm and friendly bar staff and an excellent range of drinks, The Carpenters Arms is a brilliant place for a relaxing evening or a great stop-in after a hard days shop.

The interior of the pub is a sort of cross between traditional English pub and restaurant -- and the servers are friendly and efficient. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays they offer a set menu of £22 for two courses or £26 for three, with a variety of dishes on offer just on this menu. Some of these have the option to upgrade, and it was of this that I availed myself. I opted for the fresh scallops to start, and these were delightful! Served with chorizo and edible flowers, the smokiness of the scallops was beautiful. For mains, I chose a Wagyu burger and topped it with grilled halloumi, served with sweet potato fries and onion rings. The burger was cooked slightly medium rare which kept its meatiness intact, and the halloumi on top was an inspired addition. For dessert, a simple crème brûlée. Beautifully served with a strawberry on top and oat biscuits to the side, the vanilla cream in the dessert was one of the best I have ever tasted. All in all, this place is worth a visit. The prices aren't cheap, but nor are they expensive enough to leave you with an eye-watering check -- and the food is certainly worth the price!

The menu is eclectic touching on some pub classics (burger, steaks, fish and chips), to continental (pâte mousse) to American farm-to-table (pork belly) (they have Sierra Nevada on Tap!!!). I had the pâte to start and the pork belly with scallops for the main. Each course was well proportioned. The scallops were perfectly done but small. For the park belly I was expecting a pavé of pork belly confit. Instead i was served more of a pancetta roll (a little heavy on the pepper). The accompanying sides (brocoli and potatoes dauphinois) were excellent. The sauce was a perfect and didn't over power. Overall if your interested in a free-wheeling pub-night and want a homey cosy experience but aren't too concerned with a gourmet menu, keep going down the road to Little Chalfont and stop at the White Lion. If you want a more refined experience, but not too formal, the Pomeroy is a great spot. Definitely recommended. Plus the cocktails are quite good !

Gone are the heady days of having a pint of snakes b out front on the actual Green. No, now we sit surrounded by hanging baskets of glorious flowers and upon decking, on posh furniture, under huge canvas umbrellas. The drink prices of course reflect these happy changes and it can feel a tad too pricey at times but hey, the location is great on a balmy Summer's day or indoors by the open fires on a gloomy Winter's one. Came here for the beginnings of my 30th celebrations and hired the side section. Great service, lovely vibe for a pre louder bar venue. Not sure the other diners were impressed with my party poppers or cake sparklers but no one complained. A few of my friends grumbled at bar prices and they come from London, so it is expensive! Food prices are reasonable and everything I've had here has been gorg. I tried the kedgeree last week and it was bliss. Perfect. Staff are really nice and genuinely helpful. Also they now do a variety of puds rather than just waffles which left me and friend/family a bit cold. Been for a few roasts and always good. Book though, gets busy. So yea, it's great, prob better for dins or a quiet drink these days...I came here New Years quite a few years back (pre poshness) and had a dance off with a snooker cue as a prop...can't do that anymore! I'm a lot older now and also it's far too classy in here to be playing Britney and have a snooker table. Thankfully.

Do you like pub food? Do you like Michelin stars? Do you want an amazing meal with little to no…read morepretension? Do you want to go to a pub that's practically in the middle of nowhere? If you answered yes to these four questions, head immediately to The Royal Oak. We had a slight concern when my GPS said we had arrived and it was a completely different pub. Luckily, the right pub was just a bit further up the road. We booked Sunday Lunch, because who doesn't like Sunday Lunch in a pub? If you bring your Ferrari, you can park right in the front as well! The inside is really warm and charming. There are really friendly staff there to welcome you in and let you sit in some comfy chairs and couches and have a drink while you're waiting for your fourth dining companion to arrive. So kudos to that. Our table was in the back in what looked like was an add-on. But one whole wall is full of windows overlooking a beautiful garden, so you don't really feel like you're shoved way in the back corner. The service was a bit slow, but if you're not in a rush, why does it matter? We ordered the baked Vacherin Mont d'or cheese (which in the winter, I will be doing at home instead of baked brie or Camembert) and a couple of Scotch Eggs and Rabbit on toast as pre-nibbles. The eggs and rabbit were nice, but not amazing, but the cheese dip was great. And the bread basket they served was awesome as well. Several types of bread with butter. The olive flatbreads were awesome, and since two diners didn't like olives, two of us got to eat a lot of them. They'll bring as much bread as you ask, but it's super easy to go overboard. For my starter I opted for something different than everyone else and got the game terrine. What a mistake that was. Not that the terrine wasn't delicious. It was, but the rabbit lasagne was like heaven in your mouth. I was super jealous of everyone else. For my main I ordered the hare and trotter pie. The crust wasn't the most amazing, but the filling was probably the best pie filling I've ever had. The hare and trotter were soft and luscious and the gravy was phenomenal. It was really rich so toward the end I had to cut the richness with the delicious mash they served with it. The other half had the woodcock and I tried a few bites of that as well. Awesome. Simply awesome. His only complaint was that it was huge and very rich so it was hard to finish it all, and he didn't want dessert at the end of the meal. For dessert, two of us ordered the chocolate fondant and one the butterscotch pudding. I loved the fondant, but again it was really good sized and incredibly rich. It was a lot after the rich pie. And the filling was almost too oozy. At least it wasn't over done. We also ordered some Madeleines and our coffees and teas came with Petits Fours. The Madeleines were kind of boring for me, they needed more flavor, but the Petits Fours (a raisin cake, coconut marshmallow and a chocolate truffle) were great. The coffee not so much. I hate ordering filter coffee and just getting a long pull espresso. They are not the same. But the bad parts were really minor. The good parts far outshown and some of the dishes we had were some of the best dishes of the weekend. The woodcock was fantastic and I'm still having dreams about my pie. I need to figure out how to make something that good at home. With a better pie crust. It's unfortunate that it's not really conveniently close, because I could see myself ending up here quite a bit. Since I was driving, I couldn't drink either, but given my state the night before, it was probably a good thing. If you're in the area and fancy an amazingly laid back atmosphere with awesome food, book this place!
