A great meal around here. Great spot close to the river, the green and the palace. Gorgeous area. Historic building with the true feel of an authentic pub/restaurant. The staff was amazing. Attentive, fun, and helpful. Some good starters with mussels and baked cheese. Even brought some extra bread to sop up the delicious buttery broth. Had the chicken leek and tarragon pie for my main and was delicious. A great authentic British meal for my last day in the UK. So glad to have found The White Swan. This is a lovely, chill pub with great views of the river. There's a patio area right outside the door as well as across the narrow street (although that floods when the tide comes in, as I saw yesterday!) I wish I had eaten here as well- the corn tacos with spiced aubergine filling sound divine. Next time. I would choose this place over The Barmy Arms any day- better views, more intimate. read more

This is a lovely pub in a great location right on the river; a real favourite among locals, with a bustling, friendly crowd. It has expanded its outdoor seating area across the road with a raised area of decking sitting on the edge of the water, which also has heaters for those chillier evenings. Watch out though, at high tide, you might find yourself marooned! read more

Walking along the river from St Margarets to Twickenham we were glad to stumble upon this watering hole - it was a beautiful day and a refreshing beverage by the river was just what we needed! The layout of the main bar upstairs is quite tight but it did have a small patio area with a few tables outside, so we could overlook the setting below - and what a setting! Great views over the river, with nearby boaters, rowers, ducks and geese. Downstairs and on the riverside was a much larger eating & drinking area - we were only stopping for 1 pint so didn't encroach on those eating dinner, but it looked equally pleasant. There wasn't a massive choice of draught beers & ciders but enough to get by, the usual favourites were at least in attendance. The tight corridors of the lower level toilets were a bit strange and the toilets not the cleanest, and we couldn't find the ladies (if indeed there are any!). But besides these points, it was a charming place to stop and watch the river go by... read more

The White Swan is one of Twickenham's oldest pubs, and I think it's the best one too. Bring a heavily loaded wallet because it'll take a beating. Despite bruising your bank account you'll still love this place. Located RIGHT on the riverside (the beer garden even gets flooded at high tide) you won't be dissappointed. There's not much space inside but in the winter they have a nice open fire to huddle around and in the summer you can overflow onto their terrace, the beer garden, the river beach, or road. You don't get many cars down here so most people sit on the pavement. In the summer there's usually a barbeque on the go and there's a very entertaining Raft Race (which I've competed in, and lost, numerous times) each year. Some locals will turn up in their rowing boats or canoes (including my dad) for an afternoon summer pint. The only thing stopping this place getting 5 stars is the horrible toilets. Not the high price, as its worth it for the location. UPDATE: I've changed my rating to 5 stars. Who gives a crap about the toilets anyway? read more

Possibly my favorite pub. It's small, cozy, warm, charming... In summer you sit outside, right on the edge of the river. In winter you sit inside on a comfy sofa next to the fire. There are no other pubs or businesses around so you feel relaxed and welcomed. I was surprised at how cheap our drinks were too (hot chocolate and mulled cider). Definitely a popular name for a pub in this area, the White Swan and I have been friends since I was even a kid. I used to often come here with my dad and his friend up to 20 years ago. Little has changed in this time, and certainly neither have the infamous toilets! The atmosphere in here is absolutely amazing when you catch it on a nice day and the serenity of the river provides the most stunning backdrop to your drinking activities. Whether you sit inside or outside, there is actually a lots more room to the place than you would first imagine. Despite this, the White Swan can sometimes get crowded, but I guess that is all part of the fun! read more

One of the best pubs in Twickenham. We came here with some friends after an evening stroll by the river. Ordered a few pints and sat outside on the terrace enjoying the evening. Cozy inside, great outside seating, and friendly service. Next time I'm in the area, I'll certainly be coming back to The White Swan. read more

The White Swan is one of the most charming pubs I've come across in a long time. A quirky upstairs-based layout gives is a great view out over the Thames. The patio seating area is next to a little beach-y spot at low tide and can become a little island it high tide! The pub is kind enough to list the daily tide tables on a sign and has warnings posted so you don't get caught out. A beautiful spot to sit and watch the boats go by on a summer's day. We'll definitely be keeping this one on our list of places to head on weekends! read more

Ah, sitting overlooking the river on a lovely, early summer evening, drinking a perfect pint of Sharps (Cornwall) whilst others sip Pimms. Watching the Eights row by and cows on the meadow opposite, yet only 20 mins by fast train from Waterloo. OK food but just a lovely location, BBQ"s on the deck by the beach on the river in summer are super (HOG ROAST on big rugby days). On sunny week-ends, you'll have a hard time finding a place to seat down, and will, without doubt, end up on the pavement, but the atmosphere is just great - drinking a cold one while looking at the various boats and ducks going up and down the Thames. Now, when it comes to drinks and food, the selection is alright. You'll find the usual dishes and beers - at a price. This would be my main criticism - this pub is very expensive and you can tell who's a newbie when you see their reactions at the till! As a result, you'll sure take your time to down that beer of yours. On week-ends, it offers a BBQ on the deck outside, but here again, get ready to spend at least £10 on a simple burger. All in all, you come to The White Swan for its atmosphere, and the fact that, although everyone knows about it, there is still this feeling that this pub is a close-guarded secret. read more

The White Swan on Twickenham Riverside is one of the hidden gems of the area. Perfect in the summer but also in the winter with a roaring open fire. Serving great local beers such as Twickenham Naked Ladies. Many years ago won best pub in London through the Evening Standard awards. The Riverside which runs from Richmond along to Twickenham is incredibly picturesque and lovely most times of the year, particularly near Marble Hill park. The riverside has gorgeous houses to gawp at and great views, and The White Swan pub is as nice as riverside drinking in London gets. It's generally much quieter than the busier pubs in Richmond, friendlier, and theres good wine and beers to choose from. In the summer (well, when it's warm enough), people sit on the pavement outside or on the small terrace right next to the river. At weekends there's quite often a bbq and a nice community feel that you just don't get in pubs in central london. read more

Great location for this rugby themed pub in Twickers. Don't worry though, this is no sports bar, but a characterful old pub on the river with some memorabilia stuck on the walls. The terrace is right on the river and is therefore very busy on summer Sundays and friday nights, but be warned the down stairs loo can be flooded at high tides. OK food and reasonable beer, it's the really the location that brings people here. Busy on match days too. read more

Great as you can use a taste card here which makes for fantastic value. Very beautiful view and you can sit right on the river. Food is yummy and drinks are good, not too overpriced considering the fantastic location. read more

Nice enough place but really expensive for a local pub - £3.80 a pint??

I had a Sunday lunch here on 16th October. I had haddock and chips. The haddock was half a fillet, in a dreary and cold batter, the chips were obviously heated up from the night before, all wrinkled and dried out and the accompanying peas were also cold. At £10 plus a total rip off, and I will never venture into this place again, not even for a glass of water! read more

went here for sunday lunch august bank holiday 2011 food awful.served cold ,bland and watery veggeies as well as roast potatoes that were from another century ! nice for a drink only . read more
