My partner and I, who are slightly difficult foodies, regularly enjoy dining at the Richmond Vault. We love their delicious menu, fun atmosphere and super friendly staff. Recently, however, due to unforeseen circumstances, I was in desperate need of a last minute venue for my birthday party. In less than a week, the staff at the Richmond Vault helped us pull off a successful birthday party for just under 20 people. Along with the manager, the floor manager, and the chef, they cornered off an area of the restaurant downstairs just for us, put together a super delicious and dietary diverse canapé buffet-style menu (at a very reasonable price per head), allowed us to bring in a birthday cake from an outside caterer, were attentive to and served our guests well all evening, managed the open tab seamlessly and professionally... and all of this with friendliness and smiles from A to Z! These guys went the extra mile! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice dinner out in Richmond or for anyone looking for a place to have a small party of any kind. This review covers my drinking experience only: I came here with a few friends, who are regulars at this place. I was quite impressed by their craft beer selection - Belgian beers being their specialty. We've had the Kriek and some other beer from the tab. I am not an expert on beers and so when I had to pick a beer from their massive selection, I seriously hovered my finger over the menu for a while, closed my eyes and then darted with my finger onto the menu...whatever beer I'd "landed on", I ordered. The space is quite rustic and I can quite nicely imagine spending a cold and wet London afternoon here...in front of the fire place (which is hopefully a working one). read more

Bad service, mediocre food, decent beer selection. Won't be back. Lots of better options in Richmond. I'd look at Britannia, Duke, One Kew Road or No 1 Duke before venturing here. Dinners were fine, but not good enough to justify the cost. Space was crammed and loud. Service was slow. In a town full of great restaurants, I would go elsewhere. Had a booking for 1:45 and got kicked out of our table 20 min earlier than promised. Ordered food within 5 minutes of sitting down, so kind of impressed with how terrible the service was. After 90 minutes, dinner and two rounds of drinks for two people proved to be a little more attention than the server could give us (thank God we didn't want dessert). Waited 20 min between visits to the table. In short, go elsewhere. read more

The Vault is on my walk home from work and so we meet there for dinner at least one night a week. The food is great - we always order their garlic mozzarella bread with carmelized onions, lightly baked. It is just delicious. Also, I order salad with marinated grilled chicken. My husband usually gets whatever the special is that night - they have great specials! He enjoys the vast selection of beer and always finds one he likes - he is very picky. I'm known to be particular myself but enjoy their house Chardonnay. We walked by the Vault so many times before we tried it - mostly my fault because I didn't relish the idea of walking down steps past a smoker with an ashtray into some gloomy dank restaurant. My husband convinced me to try it and I found it bright, cozy, and with wonderful varied/Mediterranean high quality food...now oftentimes when we try another restaurant in Richmond I find myself wishing we had just gone to the Vault but we already in just five weeks of living in Richmond have frequented the Vault so much that the staff know us by sight. This is their quiet time right now so easy always to find a table. They said their busy season is October through March so we look forward to experiencing that with them. Update: I saw another review saying they don't have customer wifi and wanted to confirm that they DO have customer wifi at least as of today. read more

The menu is very good and the food never disappoints. The daily offerings are usually spot on as well. The burger is a favorite as are the soups. The pizzas are exceptional for a 'pub'. But the true highlight is the beer menu. Hands down the best selection of crafts beers in Surrey. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by The Pig's Ear and will definitely return. It's located in a basement space, and the descending stairs entrance keeps you guessing at first. But, once inside, the bar seating is cozy and nice, and the restaurant is dim and comfortable. We were seated in the far back corner, but still felt part of the room. I ordered a special sausage dinner with potatoes, and my husband ordered the venison. He like his venison, but has had better. I also liked my dinner and - although I would never normally eat a plate of sausages for dinner - would recommend this to others. The beers we had were really nice, and the service was also perfect. I think that this could be tagged as more of a winter place to go, but really it's kind of romantic and cute enough to frequent all year. Especially if you like good beer and meat! read more

The Pigs Ear on a Friday night is a great place to be with friends. They do take reservations, which I would suggest if you would like to dine. There were six of us in our party and everything was top notch during our meal. The drinks were great, and the food was better! 3 of my friends had mussels ( they have different types) and they very much enjoyed them. I had a rocket prawn pizza which was superb and the remaining dishes for the table were ribs and a fish pot. The great thing here was the waitstaff- the service was very good! Our waiter was fun, easy to find and anticipated all of our needs. Honestly some of the best service I have received in London so far! read more

How have I not reviewed this yet?! It's one of my favourite pubs in all of London and is in many ways a hidden gem. Richmond isn't where you might think to find a cellar pub full of world beers and guest ales; and it really is a staircase off an otherwise unsuspecting street. Once you're in, it's bigger than you'd think, with tables behind pillars and an ample dining area; all within a dimly-lit cellar plastered in old coasters, posters, and mirrors advertising (mostly Belgian) beers. The seats are somewhat worn - the benches especially could use some new springs and upholstery - but I guess it does add to the rustic feel. The beer selection itself is - and I don't throw this term around often - unparalleled in London. More draft ales than the Draft House, and way more world and craft bottles too. Loads of guest beers which fo actually seem to be, unlike other places, on a good rotation. I've been a handful of times and it's been different every time. They also gain bonus points for serving Williams Bros beers - my favourite brewery in Scotland. They don't just have the odd bottle; usually 2 or 3 different kinds are in bottles and 1 or 2 more on draft. So good! And you can discuss the beers with the really friendly bar staff - super knowledgeable and clearly enjoy being there. I'm only holding out on the final star until I try their food - though the menu sounds amazing and always smells good! They have deals throughout the week including a Belgian beer & mussels night, and have pairing notes on a chalkboard at the entrance, so you can get the right food for your beer - or vice versa. Possibly the best place in Richmond for both food and drinks. Located undergound, the atmosphere is always pleasant and charming. The food isn't too fancy, but it's good and this is what matters! The Martini based drinks are my fave, they're delicious and the price is great compared to other places. Unfortunately I'm on a stupid wedding diet so I didn't get to partake in the beer. But the selection is fantastic and I will definitely be returning after I've tied on the knot! Great rustic ambiance, friendly staff, and yummy appetizers. Stairs to get in are a bit harrowing --it is absolutely not accessible for people with mobility needs. We arrived just before 6pm on a Thursday and it wasn't busy at all. When we left around 8pm, it was PACKED. Strangely my Canadian debit wouldn't work in their machine, so something to watch out for if you don't have a UK bank account. A great place to check out in Richmond if you like beer and are not apt to fall down stairs. (At least once you've partaken in the boozing, you just have to up to exit!) read more

The Pig's Ears is our go-to pub in Richmond. Their drinks selection is immense! I personally love the many lambics/fruit beers they have as I'm not really a traditional beer sort of person. The space is quirky, unique, and comfortable. At the back, there is a more traditional restaurant seating area, but I've not ever come for just a meal. They offer daily specials and one of these days I'm going to give their moules frites a go as the description looks great. The only downside of The Pig's Ears is that being a basement location, there's barely a phone signal and there isn't customer WiFi. Maybe in the future? read more

My sister suggested this place for a late lunch as its on Taste card. We were 1 of only 2 tables eating as it was quite late for lunch. They do a fantastic weekend deal of mussels & fries + a pint/house wine for only £12 so the 3 of us had that. The mussels were delicious, perfectly cooked in a white wine marinere. They let me swap the fries for side salad and it came with a warm fresh baguette. The waitress was so super friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be back here again! read more

After having a pint at O'neils, we decided to pass on the rather standard pub-grub menu and look for something a little more original. Yelp directed us down the street to The Pig's Ear, and we weren't disappointed. The beer menu is extensive, with a solid Belgian influence. They had a nice double IPA on draught, which I've found harder to find in the UK than the US, so I was pleased with that. My wife had a Palm Amber ale, which was equally pleasing. For food I just went with the Monday burger special (burger and pint for £11,) and my wife went with the pan-fried chicken in white wine sauce. Both were served with frittes, (which seemed a little odd with the chicken,) but everything was quite tasty. The staff didn't exactly exude a warm and welcome feeling, but they were efficient enough, and we were on the early side for dinner, so I suppose I can't complain too much. I'd definitely return for drinks when in Richmond, and the beer menu is what earns the 4 stars in my opinion, while the food is more of a solid 3 I would say. The beer selection, bottles in particular are good, probably the best in Richmond. Though not totally impressed with any real ale I have had in there. Keeping real ale is hard so usually the sign of how good a pub it is and they fail to impress me. I'd stick to the bottles or keg which is a disappointing thing to have to say! The food selection and price deals are good, especially with a timeout card. One reason I gave it three instead of four and why I'm unlikely to eat there again is they added a 20% optional tip to my bill. Now of course I could have said no but as I'm sure there aware that's super awkward. So I just probably won't eat there again instead... The service wasn't bad but, wasn't anything special. While I don't like tips being automatically added I probably wouldn't have got annoyed if it had been a more standard 10% or 12%... read more

Went with the family (5 of us) on a Saturday early evening - good table with plenty of room only complaint was that there was a draft dropping on from above and some of us kept our coats on! Mussels were as good as I've had in the UK and the kids had plenty of choice. House beer was very drinkable, although the ribs were a bit pricey for what you got. Place was packed but service was still prompt and enthusiastic, would recommend and come back with mates to sample a few more of the great range of beers. read more

A pretty solid bar. It's in the cellar and certainly has a cavernous feel to it. Great selection of beers across cask, keg and in bottle. Lots of good UK breweries represented on tap. Great escape from the busy Richmond high street. Looking from outside you wouldn't think it's the best place anywhere nearby you can spend your entire day at with mellow music, great selection of beers and wines from all over the world. You can try to find a fault with this place but you will struggle as the food quality is also up to scratch. Last time I was there I was told that the name will be changing to Richmond Vault so don't get confused or worried as everything else will remain the same. Went in for a birthday beer, all the taps except 1 were not working, the bartender wanted nothing to do with us, almost pained him to serve us. Never will go to this place again, to bad it looked good with all the beers they advertise. read more

Went here on an early Sunday afternoon. Service was perfect. I had the rib appetizer and a burger. I must say the ribs would give the US version a true contest. Sauce was a little sweet but no too much and had a bit of tang to it. The burger was juicy and well seasoned. read more
