If l could zero stars I would ! I was first given an estimate of $1298 for a trap and 8 hours of future work ! I was charged $250 for unknown or unseen work a couple of traps were set in my yard the next day there was no bait in one of them and half the bait was gone in the other I was told that every animal that was disposed of would be a charge of 79 dollars and if it was a skunk it would be 90 dollars so I feel like with the traps in my yard I was able to catch any animal that was in the area and I would've been paying to remove the animals I could not touch the traps for fear of a $250 fine when I realize that this was seeming to be an ongoing charges I decided just to end the services and took care of the problem myself I closed up the areas that they had torn into you can buy traps on amazon for 26 bucks ! read more

This is the second time I have called on Dirk for services. The first time he came out to secure the area under a room addition that was an open invitation for opossum, raccoons etc. Was not sure how he could make it work and still keep the area looking nice. Well, he and his team did and great job and I don't think anyone will be moving in under the house any time soon. My latest job with Dirk was to remove the carcass of a deer from my property. Had never had any experience with this sad state fo affairs but I knew I would get a fair and quick resolution from Dirk and his crew. Once again, I was not disappointed. In fact, I did not inquire about the price of this before I scheduled because I knew Dirk would be totally fair as he always has been with me. He is a true pest expert. This is the worst customer service I have received dealing with someone providing a service for our home. Derick was rude from the very beginning, complaining about us calling in to the wrong number, a number in which HE himself gave us to call. Then proceeding to charge us for each individual animal, instead of each cage taken away (with animals inside) after telling us at the start of it, that if they were found in the same cage, it would be one charge. Then we never received the said email that confirmed the charges, nor did we get charged for 2 months after the fact. He then called ONCE and left a vm saying something went wrong on their end and he dropped the ball and he needed me to call him to rerun the charge. When we called back, he said he had made several attempts to call to correct the situation, which HE DID NOT. He is not a person I would ever want to work with again. I DO NOT recommend this company to anyone in the Columbus or surrounding areas! read more

We had birds in the vent from bathroom on first floor, between the floors. A fishy smell started in the bathroom. I provided that information when I called for appointment and estimate. They gave estimate in the $200 - 300 range (it included getting nest out of the vent, changing pipe if needed, disinfecting, and putting the guard on). They also informed us, based on my description, that the bird was an invasive species, not native in Ohio, and that it spreads parasites. They said that the birds had to be removed, and the vent disinfected afterward.They removed some of the nest with a stick from outside, put a guard lid on, came inside to check for bathroom, and dusted the vent cover in the bathroom. He told us we had no access (he didn't check to confirm), and he didn't have any other info/options/equipment for this kind of problem. He then told me to call him back with any issues. The original estimate included them removing the problem and replacing the pipe, addressing disinfection. Based on the limited work that he could do, he still charged me about $268. I asked for receipt or invoice, he told it'd come by mail. I did not receive it yet. Next day, the birds were screeching incessantly from hunger (we could hear them from inside the house). We called him, and he claimed they were busy until the next day. We had to take the cover off ourselves. Luckily, the mother kept returning to feed the baby birds, but the problem remains unsolved, and our money remains in his pocket for no reason. We inquired about a partial refund, and he said "Absolutely Not!" I am disappointed with the customer service! read more

We recently had Racoons in our chimney and called The Wildlife Control Company after reviewing several websites for animal removal in our area. I called on a Sunday, expecting to leave a message but was surprised when Dirk answered the phone. He was pleasant and knowledgeable. He explained his fees in detail and made it clear that we could save money by checking the traps everyday ourselves if he was not able to remove the racoons on the first visit. We scheduled for the next day, and he showed up exactly as scheduled with a half hour advanced call to us. Fortunately, Dirk was able to catch and remove our racoon and her family on the initial visit. He did a great job, was easy to work with and billed us for exactly what we agreed to on the phone. We were very satisfied with our experience and would gladly recommend him to anyone needing his services. read more

Dirk was amazing; on time, called ahead, told us what he was doing and how he had to make adjustments based on our particular house and it's material instead of trying to just "make it fit" . Had another issued and he went the extra mile to make sure he helped even though it wasn't even in his area of expertise. Fantastic service and I would use them again for sure. read more

My experience with Dirk Shearer, owner of The Wildlife Control Co., Inc. has been the worst experience. His business practices resulted in fraudulent billing for work not done. Dirk convinced me to give him my credit card number to secure the job of trapping unwanted raccoons. He instructed me to take a picture of a blank copy of his company invoice as reference of the fees for service and said to call his office before 8:00am stating catch or no catch in traps. I agreed to use his service then gave him my credit card number. He assured me stating an itemized invoice would be emailed to me prior to charging my credit card for service rendered. After reporting by the required time and several animals trapped then contacted Dirk by telephone to request service to stop and a final itemized bill but after several days passed still no response was received from Dirk. I began texting Dirk to inform him of my concerns, after no response for two days he then responded I'm driving. Then again I informed Dirk no more service was needed and to email me an itemized invoice. Dirk began complaining about he didn't like customers who try to tell him how to conduct his business. Then two weeks had passed I still had traps at my home. Dirk said he would pickup traps once he got around to it and instructed me to close the trap door. Dirk charged me for 3 days of service after I requested a final invoice and he ran my credit card number without authorization .Dirk's invoice was emailed to me from his wife's personal email. This invoice from Dirk was sent 25 days after making the initial request. Also he back dated the invoice so it appeared it had been sent to me earlier. Finally i filed a complaint with the wildlife game warden, bbb and Columbus P.D. I did pay for the service I received. No one should ever have to experience this type of unprofessional behavior so consumers beware. I will not recommend this company to anyone. read more

Not so great, unfortunately. I don't recommend anyone use their services. Over the phone, not so bad and I appreciate how they allow the consumer to phone in a catch or no catch to mitigate trip fees. They were also timely in responding to your voicemail regarding any issues with the trap. However, they don't call ahead of time. They just show up. The problem we were having was that there were groundhogs in our crawl space and Dirk seemed to know how to handle the issue. So we thought, at least. ALL they did was simply lay a trap with cabbage and a marshmallow by our back deck in front of a hole. That's it. They didn't come inside to check out the crawl space to determine the type of creature that was nesting there before we moved into our house. My wife and I were going off of the home inspector's belief that it was a groundhog because of the nest, droppings, and tunneling. Also, their billing practices are outdated. They don't have a way to pay online and you have to pay immediately after the invoice is sent. However, they don't have a problem taking their time processing your payment and leave their customers wondering when they will eventually get around to it. Dirk was also so dismissive about it over the phone. To summarize Dirk after I asked how long before the payment gets processed he said "My wife handles that .. i'm not sure how she does it .. but it's done in a batch..". NOT GOOD ENOUGH, DIRK. Easy for them to go lax processing your payment when they're collecting $500+ just before the Holidays. I've called and left a voicemail regarding payment but haven't received a call back or email. Convenient isn't it, Dirk? $500 down the drain for NO REASON. I absolutely, positively do NOT recommend this company to anyone. You have been warned. read more

I had a very professional and kind experience from this company both on the phone and in person. We had a squirrel making all sorts of racket in the attic or wall; making a nest we figured. Talking on the phone and then later in person, they were clear about how all of the charges worked and what my responsibilities were. They did an inspection and found a tiny gap in the roof, so they set a trap up there on the gutter and explained my responsibilities - which was to check the trap every morning and report in by 8am. A couple times I called late and they were super nice about it. A few days later we caught the culprit and removed him. We left the trap for a couple weeks more and never caught any more and the problem was solved (now writing two months later). They offered to do the roof repair but were careful to admit that they're not a carpentry or roofing company, so I declined because I needed some minor roof work elsewhere and this way I could bundle it to one job with a roofing company. It's not super cheap to get any animal control company but the charges they detailed all made sense compared to any other service brought to your home; much less taking away potentially dangerous wild animals to be disposed under state law guidelines. read more

I wish I had a better experience but sadly I didn't. When I initially called and spoke with Derk (who I presumed to be the owner), he was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I really needed service the same day but because my initial interaction went so well I decided to hire them even though they couldn't come until the following day. Once the traps were set, all niceties went out the window. To make a long story short, he basically called me a liar over the phone and he has no idea what his technicians are doing. At one point something didn't get done that was supposed to and his response to me in a snippy tone was "Maybe it got pushed back!". If it was, that's fine but it his tone & his response was inappropriate. When I asked him if he could contact his tech to find out what was going on, he then replied that he wasn't going to talk to his tech until the next day. He made it seem as though I was inconveniencing him by following up on work that should have already been done. After that, I asked him to go ahead and pick up his traps because our business was concluded. In a service business, customer service is EVERYTHING! Bottom line, I would NEVER, EVER refer anyone to this company. Call Critter Control instead. I used them in the past and my experience was much better! read more

Our community has three small lakes within it and for years, we've suffered with major goose issues. The geese were all over our lakes and they exhibited very aggressive behavior towards our children and pets, and kept our banks and yards continually covered with disease laden feces. We tried trying to scare them away with paintball guns, coyote and swan decoys, firecrackers, herding dogs and green light lasers. We also applied goose repellent liquid to our lawns and put up goose fences along the shoreline. We had very limited success with all these tactics and then when we had our lake waters tested and the results showed unsafe levels of E.Coli due to the amount of goose feces in the water, we knew we had to look for professional assistance. That's when I contacted the ODNR and they recommended I speak with The Wildlife Control Company. I contacted their President, Dirk Shearer and he provided me with education about the geese, as well as set me up with a viable immediate (and long term) solution to our problem. Dirk and his team were prompt, efficient and professional. Watching them work on our lakes was nothing short of amazing as for the first time in almost 15 years, we can now truly enjoy our lakes and our yards.
