Lots of new ones for me and I followed the crowd in selecting Buzz Light Beer, the honey-est flavoured bee-er I hive ever tasted (haha sigh). It was rather nice. The icing on the cake? A falafel tent erected outside the pub. You can order there and they will bring the delicious result to you at your table in the pub. Not sure how often that is the case of course, but if its outside I would recommend it.

Unfortunately, the actual pub doesn't serve food. The pub staff are always really nice even when they're busy. The clientele range from older men to hipsters to young professionals to everything in between. It's a really good place to grab a pint and they even allow four legged friends. I had a lovely time here last night listening to a blue grass band. There was lots of people there and even some dancing. The atmosphere was great and we really enjoyed ourselves! Now that I've listed all the positives, I do need to talk about the negatives. The pub needs a restoration as it is beginning to look a little worn. For example, the carpets need to be replaced and it could do with a fresh coat of paint. However, the place is pretty clean for a pub! This is pretty minor as the other elements are way more important to a night out. On the other hand, this is also part of the vibe. Overall it's a charming aspect of the community that I'm glad is around!

Folly for a Flyover is one of those places that is so unique and creative, it really can make your regular life feel quite hum drum. Cycling along the canal, you stumble upon a collection of wooden bricks, a floating pontoon, some hand made wooden chairs and friendly looking folk enjoying the weekend. It's hard to describe what this place actually is, it's a cinema and performance place but it also seems to be where they hold yoga, stop motion workshops, mask painting for kids and a variety of other activities that they host for free or a very small fee. There is a floating pontoon which is manned by a chap who rents out his row boats for £2 every half hour. It's all very cute. As for the venue itself, there seems to be a little bar area and a scattering of tables and chairs. This is where some attractive twenty somethings with degrees in mixed media art serve up tasty filter coffee using Climpson and Sons roast and toasted bagels with crispy bacon. Two coffees and two bagels will set you back a fair £7.50. For the kids there is soft serve ice cream with a flake and juice. Further evidence that this is a family intended venue. As for opening hours, it seems to be there most weekends and some week day evenings you'll see performances advertised. It's certainly worth checking out.

London is one of our favorite places to visit in Europe. We always stay in the Stratford area…read morebecause it is close enough to the city center, and prices tend to be more affordable. This was our first time staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Stratford. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the tube (subway). Close enough to walk with our luggage. It was a pleasant 2 night stay at this HIE. Staff was cordial. Breakfast was included with our reservation, and it was busy the two mornings of our stay. The breakfast here was similar to the breakfast offered at the Holiday Inn Express United States locations. Big difference to me is that they do not have those yummy cinnamon rolls in this HIE in Stratford. Our room was fine. Clean and comfortable. Most importantly, we got a good night's sleep each night. As long as the rates are reasonable, it looks like this Holiday Inn Express will now be the place we stay when we travel to London in the future.

Where to begin? It's a chain or franchise, so how far off from the mothership can it be?…read more Our first time in London, our main reason for choosing this location was the proximity to the ABBA Arena where we watched the ABBA show last night, brilliant, by the way. So, it did the trick and was/is reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the heart of London. The breakfast buffet is top notch, which seems pretty rare for a chain like this, and the employees are nice. The room was nice and I really have no complaints... except. No room service. You order and have to go down to the bar to get it yourself when it's ready, which kind of defeats the purpose. And don't even think about ordering the burger... holy hell, how can you mess up a burger that much? The employees really don't do well as tourist guides, though I know that's not their job, but one would think they'd be able to assist with basic touristy questions. Otherwise, all good! Prost!

The vendors seemed to specialize only in vintage-looking accessories and baby items, and the food was too scarce to mention. The only potent memory I have is the mulled wine; and that's only because it was quite potent. The house itself is nice, though. It has a very old-fashioned look and feel, and considering all the different events it holds throughout the year, it does hold promise for a memorable experience. If you do go to one of the Christmas fairs, wait until mid-December as there are usually more vendors the later in the month it gets. Do be forewarned: While the gifts you can find here are all handmade and unique, they're also quite limited in their style and only appeal to certain tastes.

Sutton House is a small piece of English heritage in the heart of Homerton. Walking into a building…read moreso antiquated and ornate meant that it would be rude not to ask how long the building had been around for. It's the oldest building in East London was the response I got from one of the staff working in the souvenir shop. No one was able to tell me exactly when it was built, but the tudor beams and furniture was a dead giveaway; having a peek on their site later on in the day also confirmed the period in which this beautiful artwork of a location was made. For anyone who's been to Homerton and noticed that it's awash in ramshackle converted warehouses, convenience stores, scaffolding and old factories, you'll notice how much Sutton House stands out, with its moss covered walls, and creeping vines and serene, distinctly 'stately home' appearance. One thing I couldn't quite get over is how small people must have been in Tudor times. The tables are low, as are the ceilings and the passageways were in some places unforgivingly narrow. If you've eaten a lot post-Christmas, you might want to consider a few sessions at the gym before investigating the place. I'm not sure what you'd do if you were a 7ft basketball player. They have a brilliant programme of events here: I went to a series of talks about Black history writer S.I. Martin (they have a great Black History Month programme here in October), but even for non-history buffs they have plenty to offer, including monthly family days, Halloween ghost tours, Christmas carol concerts and guided tours. It's used by local community groups, which means you can hire it too. Standard Admission: £2.80, child 70p, family £6.30. Groups £2.40
