They allow visiting family members to dine with their loved ones for a mere $5 a meal. They have plenty of visiting spaces and activities outside of the rooms and a hair dresser that will do patients hair. The downside is it may take awhile to get assistance after sending a nurse alarm and if you would like to stay the night in a loved ones room you will spend the night sleeping on a tiny love seat, this is impossible of course unless you are a little person. All in all this place does a great job helping their patients to rehab and they are gracious to the family/loved ones of their patients.

This is the best format for senior living. Each house holds just 10 residents in 10 bedrooms, split between 2 hallways on either side of a central common area with dining space, living area, and an enormous kitchen where staff prepares meals and residents may use space, also. Each bedroom is private with en suite bathroom equipped with a walk in shower. Facility provides twin bed, sitting chair, side table, and dresser. There is space to personalize as well. We plan to add 2 sitting chairs for guests and a larger dresser. There is a large closet, between 5-6' wide. Laundry is done on a schedule and not mixed so chance if items missing is very low. Nurse is available, aids are assigned on shifts and are very capable and friendly. The center publishes activity calendar including social outings and shopping trips. There is a hair salon and manicures and pedicures can be scheduled.

We had multiple complaints with Mom's care on the 4th floor. We had ongoing issues with Nursing on…read morethat floor and problems with our Mom getting assistance with her showers or help getting her hair washed. They never did answer the question if they accepted Medicaid once our Mom's money was depleted. I asked for an answer to this 6 times, from the admissions person on the day of admission, a Nurse on 4th floor, another Nurse passing medications, the executive director, and I left 2 voicemails for the owner, Kathy Hunt and NOT ONCE was this question answered. We had a right to know this important question as we were planning for our Mother's long term care placement. After 1 year and 8 months we had enough of the pathetic activities program they say they offered. I walked in the last 14/15 times in a row and found my Mother in bed or sleeping, no matter the day or time I came in the morning or afternoon. We chose to move her to a far more caring facility that had a wonderful, proactive activities program and we have never regretted our decision to move her out of Elmwood at the Shawhan in Tiffin.

I had been talking to admissions director every 2 weeks about moving my mom who has dementia to…read morethere new memory care center opening the beginning of Jan.(she was 2nd on there list) Only to find out after I called on Dec 10th that it would be 6 more months before they could take her. At the beginning of Jan. she had to be moved because we private pay currently where she is at & would be switching over to Medicaid as our money has run out & the place she currently is doesn't have a locked skilled nursing department & that is where she would be moved so it wasn't safe for her not to be in locked faculty. I was told rudely by admissions director there was nothing she could do & her hands were tied. I then decided to call administrator of Riverview & talk with her she was EXTREMELY disrespectful to me & acted like it was no big deal they had done this to me. I was lied to by them & they didn't care I had to scramble to find a new place to put my mom & everywhere has waiting list so not an easy task when you've been told by a place they would be ready by beginning of Jan. & we're counting on that. The communication from this place is terrible, they don't call you back, you have to do all the calling & they don't call back current nursing home to get paper work done. If this is how they run there business I guess I should be glad my mom isnt there, can't imagine the care she would get.

I was very disappointed with the exit process they initiated for my Mother. No contact or communication on wrap up process or medications. The actual staff is very caring, with great patience. But we noticed a turnover when the new Director arrived. I wish you well with your family member, but please be mindful that a good leader is required for a good staff. She was never in depends when she was home. She's drastically declined since she's been there. The workers never put her dentures in correctly and are overwhelmed with other patients. She always was so beautiful and now shes so unkempt, hair not washed, sweaty. Shes just not being taken care of the way she should. There are way too many patients per nurse. They say she's combative and that's part of the disease, they medicate for it. It seems to me she's lucid, knowing that she doesn't live there, then she gets so medicated that she sleeps through meals. Yes she's losing weight. Yes her dementia is advancing horribly. I think this place is a big part if her advancing.
