When we arrived they told us to grab a table wherever and being another glorious day we headed straight outside to nab one of their high 6-seater tables drenched in afternoon sun! The drinks menu is extensive and divided into sections - punch pitchers, Bedford daisies (refreshing, lighter cocktails), Bedford ballers (stronger, more manly numbers) and liquor-laden floats. There is also a wide range of teas and non-alcoholic beverages. After much deliberation, we went for a pitcher of Aperol Spritz ($35) - Prosecco, Aperol, fresh peach, citrus, grapefruit bitters, herbs. It arrived pretty as a picture, with flower/herb garnishes in the glasses as well as the pitchers. We only ordered one serving but it came in two smaller pitchers and was easily enough to fill 5 glasses. I'll admit, I found it a little lacking in the flavour dept but it was v.refreshing! Yet to try the food (/meatball) menu, but for those who have spent time in NYC it looks similar to the meatball shop incl. laminated menus and markers for you to tick you choice of meatball and sides. I guess they've just opened so have some teething issues - the food took FOREVER - it was a mid week lunch time and considering all the meatballs and sauces are already prepared I don't get why it should take so long. Anyway when it came it was all pretty good. The corn was so delicious in its flavoured butter and the subs were wicked, perfect bernaise and tomato sauce and really herby meatballs encased in a really soft sesame seed bun. We also shared the meatballs paired with spagehetti and sauce but done this way its super expensive, 3 x meatballs for $12 then $3 for each sauce you want and $4 for a carb side (Spag, mash, polenta etc) so for a tiny tiny dish its minimum $19 - they really need to look at this. Also everyone loves sauce so extra sauces should be a $1 or something.

I have been to Mosaik on three occasions and each has been very different, though all were enjoyable. The first time was for lunch midweek. A delicious homemade burger and salad with ice cold juice was exactly what I was after, and sitting in the sun devouring it was perfect. The second time was for a 21st birthday party. Mosaik has an upstairs function room that can be hired, complete with a second bar and room enough for a wee dance floor. It was a great, cosy venue and with no room hire fee, a fantastic place to keep in mind. My most recent Mosaik experience was for a Sunday night birthday dinner. Glasses of wine, bottles of bubbly, Mezze platter, and huge portions of pasta for our mains - we had waaaay to much food but felt we'd definitely got our money's worth. The staff are all incredibly attentive, and even bought our dog a bowl of water to drink upon our arrival. The only downside was the bathroom doesn't get quite as much attention as you'd hope - the bins are often overflowing with paper towels. But aside from this, Mosaik is a great place to dine, catch up with friends and family, people watch and celebrate!

We were on the upstairs level away from the busy restaurant and when I walked into the room the chairs had been set up, the muffins we had requested were covered and the room was perfect. We managed to fit about 15 girls into the venue without a hustle and the area on the far right of the room was perfect for us to shoot a promo video. Although we where upstairs, we were well looked after by wait staff who would ask if we needed any drinks or anything else. The staff were also more than happy to escort some of the girls who got lost upstairs. The muffins were amazingly delicious and the coffee was roasted to perfection! I recommend this location for birthdays and get togethers! Nothing beats excellent customer service.

Maybe I caught them in a bad time, the experience was not what I expected. The location: newly revamped Orakei Bay Village, where things are really starting to pick up. There are two toilets in the restaurant also, so you don't have to go outside to the main area. The coffee and drinks: no complaints, try out their ice coffee!! they also have fresh juice and a small local brews on tap. Service: this is the biggest downfall. Maybe they just have not sorted out the flow, but it took way too long. We went as a large group, and have repeated requested them to serve the children's meal first, but it still took more than 30min before anything arrived. During that time, we ended up having to visit the nearby supermarket on 2-3 occasions to buy snacks for the little ones. Hopefully this will improve over time! Food: you can taste the freshness of the ingredients, unfortunately its sort of ruined by the amount of peas you see in each dish. Nothing against frozen pees, but when you are pay more than $20 for a branch dish, you hope to get some fresh greens as well. Everything in general is salty. It must also be said they have done a great job of making the outdoor area as sheltered as possible and they even have a retractable roof for when it inevitably starts raining (this is Auckland after all!). As for the drinks, both us girls where in the mood for a refreshingly, cold beer and opted for a jar of the Monteith's Pilsner ($8). I thought the list was pretty reasonable in both price and variety although I do think they could do with a few more boutique beers on the list as opposed to the usual mass produced varieties. The boys on the other hand were nursing rather significant hangovers and were in need of a drink of the non-alcoholic variety. ASAP. They ended up settling on a Sweet Alice; a strong cup of Kokako filtered coffee with condensed milk on the side. Don't be shocked when you see the beer missing from the menu, it isn't on there so ask the lovely wait staff. Gluten free options are available. Based on my experience you can request variations to menu items to fit your dietary requirements. I was impressed with my salad which not only looked good but tasted amazing. Greens with thin sliced mango, cherry tomatoes, micro greens and walnuts with a vinaigrette. Friendly staff, good surroundings, indoor and outdoor seating options and a decent menu. I'll be back, with a bigger crowd.
