Quality local options and they are FRESH! As a hop head I check dates and won't buy aged pales or IPAs. Great options for all styles of beer in 12+, 6, 4, and larger format bottles. The Wine, I've been into wine in and off for 8 years. I didn't have a plan for a bottle, knew my wife wanted a cab or red blend. Was well informed on some American Cabs and eventually lead to a new Portuguese bottle that we will be getting again at a great price point. All in all, great local shop. Expansive wine and beer list, competitively priced, and a selection/rotation that has captured my attention. I literally drive past two other options to shop here for the selection and the knowledge. As an avid homebrewer this is the only place I'll be going on the west side of town because I know I'll find something new, unique, or rare. I haven't even looked at the liquor options yet, so I can't comment there.

I handed over my perfectly valid driver's license, and somehow that wasn't good enough. Instead of scanning it like virtually every competent liquor store does, the employee insisted I prove my age by pulling up my birthday on Snapchat. When I explained I don't have Snapchat, Facebook suddenly became the preferred form of "verification." Since when did Mark Zuckerberg become the DMV? If your employees trust Facebook more than an official driver's license, your training process needs serious work. I came in to buy one beer at 2 p.m. on a Wednesday, not present a portfolio of my online presence. What should have been a 30-second transaction turned into one of the most absurd retail experiences I've ever had. I'll happily spend my money somewhere that understands what a valid ID looks like.

We had cocktails to start and they were crafted well and delicious. I had the pink 75 and it was not overly sweet but was refreshing. We started with the Parker house rolls, shrimp cocktail and the onion and caviar dip. Very tasty and I would order again. The soup with lobster was especially good as was the cavatelli. We had the bananas foster for dessert and could have licked the dish clean! We also had the grasshopper and pink lady which were a fun treat. I highly recommend and look forward to going back soon.

Connor answered all of our questions about the menu, and when we inquired about a specific bottle of wine, he brought it to our table so we could take a closer look. I appreciated his willingness to go the extra mile. The food was excellent. We started with the Parker House rolls, which I will not soon forget. I only wish I could have taken a dozen home with me! We also shared the Caesar salad. For our entrées, we had the roast chicken and the beef tenderloin, both of which were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Sadly, we didn't have room for dessert, but the Bananas Foster our neighboring table was enjoying looked spectacular. Perhaps next time I'll save room. The only downside is that it does get quite loud as the restaurant gets busy. On my next trip to the Minneapolis area, I'll certainly be back.

Total Wine has added a frequent customer rewards program that makes their already low prices even more attractive. They have a very good selection of wine, regional craft beer, national and international beer, and spirits, along with a smattering of miscellaneous offerings such as glassware, mini-bottles, and non-alcoholic offerings (the latter of which are more expensive than at your local grocery store). Service has been consistently high, with the floorwalkers always looking to help you find something and the cashiers rapidly moving people through the line. Several times the store manager has opened a cash register just so a person doesn't have to wait a few minutes behind another customer. Despite the broad selection available, it would be even more distinctive if they could periodically bring in brands that are not typically distributed in Minnesota, just to get a sense for what the rest of the world can get.

So many beers that I had never had before that you could buy in singles. They came up to the Twin Cities a couple years later. Still pretty sweet for awhile. The times they are a changin'. These days, at least half of the shelf space that they used to have for beer is now THC and NA beverages. What they do have for beer almost never rotates and there is way too much emphasis on the local. Total Wine can still be fun if you visit one somewhere that you have never been before to find some new to you beers. The only reason I go them locally anymore is the sheer sake of convenience. Prices are up everywhere, but it doesn't seem like Total Wine has the bargain prices compared to their competition that it used to either.

Fortunately, when you drop by Glen Lake Wine and Spirits, it doesn't matter how well versed you are on wines. This little shop has a great wine section - many, many different bottles of vino in varying price ranges. Don't fret, you tennis playing MInnetonka housewives, there's plenty of good vodka, too! The employees at Glen Lake Wine and Spirits are really helpful - recently, I walked in and said, "Hey, I'm going to mull some wine, so I want something cheap, dry, and with a good flavor." The guy behind the counter took me to a $6 bottle and said, "This is your wine." Seriously, it happened just like that. And you know what? It was perfect! Protip: When you're browsing the wine section, look for the tags under the bottles that have the employee faces on them. They're usually priced very well - often on sale - and are really well-described. (e.g. "Figgy taste, smooth finish, pairs well with steak.") These folks have the knowledge to be wine snobs, but they're not. They're just as comfortable telling you about the wide variety of local microbrews that they carry, the strange and exotic vodkas (today I saw a buttered popcorn flavored variety!) and the many other alcohols that they carry. Best yet, you're not going to go broke here. Nothing is over-priced. It's inexpensive, reasonable, and great customer service is always included. What more would you want?
