We used to come to this 'back water' pub 20 years ago when the food was great, in recent years it has been a sad reflection of British Pub life with an empty car park and we have avoided it. We saw that it had reopened as a pub/pizza restaurant and popped in for lunch yesterday on a bright sunny day. The dark old pub has been transformed, the new owners who have been here now for a year have created a beautiful garden with lots of tables overlooking the wide open fields and the food was great. Mainly pizza and salads but they also do an 'oven baked breakfast' which I am just itching to try and take away. This bright and happy pub restaurant deserves to be very successful, looking forward to coming back with the kids very soon.

The sun was shining, so although we booked a table in the restaurant, the friendly staff asked if we wanted to have our dinner in the garden, so we did. The views are like something out of "Old England" with rolling green fields and trees and you could easily just while the hours away, relaxing, drinking cool refreshing drinks. For starters the bruschetta was fresh and really tasty chowed that down quick as you like, the boyff had chicken strips, which we perfectly okay, but nothing special to be honest and I think it was re-constituted chicken and not chicken breast. For mains the list of pizzas were not your typical type and there was an excellent selection and quite random toppings you could ask for, since this place is raved for about it's pizza, I opted for Ingeus pizza - chicken, pepperoni, meatballs, onion and mozzerella - with extra gorgonzola cheese and green peppers. The boyff went for a pasta dish - penne, tomato and bechamel sauce with chorizo and peas. I enjoyed my pizza it was cooked very well and evenly. Although I got a bit of food envy with the boyffs pasta as that was really good. They welcome children and you could see the waitress taking time out to pick up children that had fallen over and run back and forth with jugs of squash for people's kids in the hot weather. Although at one point, there was a child that kept kicking a ball under our table and feet whilst we were eating, but I blame the parents and not the pub! The decor is lovely and well maintained, in the bar area, which is quite limited, - but perfectly formed!! - is a TV that they have some sport on, but it is on silent and tucked away, most definitely there if you want to keep an eye, but not at all giving this a sports bar feel. I thought it a bit random that I got a glass of wine in what I would say was a 1/2 pint Carlsberg glass, but there you have it. The whole place just had a relaxing friendly vibe to it and all the staff had smiles. This is definitely on my favourite local places to go to when wanting pizza/pasta. The prices are equivalent to those of the chain places, but here the atmosphere is nicer and the selection better. Make sure you do call up ahead though as a lot of the time they are fully booked.

I get that the idea for them, at least, is so make you sit around so you spend more money (great business plan), but four hours to play two games... The chilli cheese dog was awful, red in skin so closer to a savaloy, and the chili wasn't great. I ordered a 2 pint stein, of which they'd apparently run out of yet hadn't mentioned it to me and then served two single pints. Tater tots were decent though. All in all, I like the idea and it's great fun but waiting around that long, alongside the prices of drinks (pretty much London prices) such as 6.20 or so for a pint, plus terrible food, isn't s great experience. *Updated review* We went back as some friends were down and it was an even worse experience and we'll never be back. Pushy service which we then noticed service charges - it's not a posh upscale restaurant, how can you justify a service charge? The food again was average to bad, spicy Mac and cheese was awful and not spicy, tater tots were lukewarm and soggy, wings were fine but not listed as spicy (they are slightly), the burger my friend got was poor and dry. To add to this, they didn't clean and take away plates and glasses for over an hour. We then proceeded to wait 4 and a half hours before getting into a lane, along the way, we got to 1 at in the queue where we waited 45 minutes and saw numerous people go ahead who were further back in the queue... All because they had kids. I don't think breaking the rules because people choose to bring kids down late on a Saturday is very fair on the people who've been there since before 4pm, it was 8.30pm at this point. I was told (which I knew) if you want to get in quicker, book a slot, but that comes at a cost of £39.99, and that doesn't include any games, food or drinks. I then had security speak with me as I was getting agitated and say, well I'm here to 3AM, after I said we'd been there since before 4pm. Honestly, that's not a great response and insulting. You chose this job, not me, it's not my problem you're there until 3am, if you're unhappy, change jobs? Literally, it's nothing like this at the one I'm Las Vegas which I've visited numerous times now. I would avoid this place like the plague, unless you like wasting money and valuable hours of your life. We'll never be back.

I would definitely consider coming back. However there are some downsides which leads me to give Topgolf only three stars: - the wait: we came on a Saturday afternoon and had to wait 4 1/2 hours. 4 and a half hours!!! Since we pre-paid our session and there was a sports-bar showing football, we waited but really... - the food: the menu looks super attractive since I am a big fan of traditional American sports bar food (wings, burgers, nachos). However, all the dishes we had were mediocre at best. Even something simple as loaded nachos were just meh. - the service: the service in their bar was extremely slow, I guess we had plenty of time but the staff was also unaware of the menu. I asked for a Peroni beer and even pointing at it on the menu was not sufficient for the waitress, she asked me to spell it for her sjeesh. So bottomline, the main attraction: the driving range is super fun and good entertainment but the bar is below par (pun intended hehe).

Cafe Football is going to be the place to be during the World Cup…read more Yes, it has stiff competition in the form of the nearby casino which boasts 27 screens (so I'm told), but this sports bar-cum-restaurant opened by former Manchester United team-mates Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs tops it in terms of all things related to The Beautiful Game. For a start, you're greeted by a display full of football boots the moment you enter the cafe, some of which are autographed by Ryan Giggs. The menu is divided into sections such as The Kick-Off and Terrace Food. The walls outside the toilets are signed by the owners. The walls are covered with football quotes. And so on. There was one big screen in the bar when I was there, while there were smaller screens for the more football-crazy for each of the tables and in front of the bar stools. I understand that they're planning to put more screens in place in time for the World Cup, which will probably boost the viewer to screen ratio from 8:1 to 4:1 or something along those lines. Now, I didn't try their food (mainly standard comfort fare), and it appears that they do have a fairly extensive wine and beer selection at prices you tend to get at a Westfield. I'm not too bothered by details like that when there's football on the telly.

I'm happy to say, I've finally had that chance, and whilst not perfect, was definitely a great experience. I'll start off with the bad - I'd always imagined it as a standalone restaurant, but it's actually attached to the side of a huge shopping centre. A bit of snobbery on my side, I'll admit, but it does lose some of the lustre because of it. There's also a lot less memorabilia once you go in - besides a few shirts hung up near the toilets (admittedly, impressive to see those names up there), there's little to hint of the footballing pedigree of the two owners. But, onto the good - having sampled a gut-busting 3 course meal there, I can safely say the food is a drastic step up from the standard you'd usually get from your average sports bar/restaurant. I began with the chicken wings, easily the best I've ever had anywhere! They're immense, really crispy on the outside & very tender on the inside. Result! I then moved onto their version of the sausage roll - black pudding and pork, encased in a crunchy pastry and served with a side of home-made beans (mixed with pulled pork!!) I finished off with the Vimto trifle - given I believe the mighty Vimto to be the nectar of the Gods, it was always going to go down well! I meant what I said at the start, that amount of food was literally gut-busting, and I will admit I felt it the following day. But, it was totally worth it...
