Love the atmosphere. The breaded pork tenderloin sandwich are always a hit. The thin steak fries were awesome.

Decided to come to this place based on a recommendation. I really appreciate the decoration here as there are a lot of vintage elements in here. - Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich - I think this sandwich has a bit too much meat. It felt a little bit too heavy and salty for my liking and I would like to have something vinegar base to cut through the fattiness of the dish. - Center Cut Breaded Tenderloin - I didn't think I was going to like this but it turned out to be pretty okay, the pickles and onion helped cut out a lot of the fatty bits of the pork. - Wood Chips - This apparently is their house specialty for chips but I thought this was very okay, tastes like actually stale chips. Wish they put more of their seasoning on this. Overall, I would give this place a solid 3-stars. The food wasn't particularly great. The thing that made me really dislike this place though was the bathrooms which were pretty unclean, there seem to be feces particles splattered on the walls or was it rust? We were passing through Carthage on a road trip looking for some food. We stopped by The Wood Inn due to some recommendations. I didn't feel like a very family friendly space. My kids were a little uneasy about being there. Place was clean and the service was great. The food may have been good for the area due to the lack of options. Landed in Carthage for dinner after a day of driving... looking for a relaxing meal and a nice cold beer, and found it! The decor was fun and vintage, staff was friendly and polite. Menu was nothing exciting, small and typical - burgers, grilled cheese, sandwiches as a few salads. The specials of the day were prime rib and catfish. My husband and I each got the specials. Both were good and came with salads and choice of potato. Jalapeño ranch was good and so were the seasoned fries. If we head this way again we'll probably be back. read more

Today was the third year in a row we ate Christmas Eve lunch at the Wood Inn. I tried the brisket and it was THE BEST I've ever has hands down. Juicy, plentiful, and just so good you have to taste it to know how delicious it is. Go to Carthage and see for yourself! read more

The Wood has progressed from a local bar to a regional bar/restaurant. Tuesday through Friday, Mark (the owner) has food at night until 8:30, and Monday through Saturday, there's lunch. Each evening has its own specials, as do most lunches, but in general there's burgers, tenderloins, various sides, fish sometimes, fried chicken dinners sometimes, and just a variety of good food! Fridays or Saturdays might bring a band in the lofty stage area, as the place transitions from restaurant to bar/entertainment. It's a great gathering place for young and old! read more

Awesome seasoned fries and cheeseburger. Not a lot of seating, but it wasn't very busy, so no problem there. Fun atmosphere on weekend nights for drinks, but the bar tenders can be a bit obnoxious and unprofessional. But it's a bar, so no big deal, I guess. read more

While passing through Carthage on a business trip we decided to take a gamble and try out The Wood Inn restaurant and bar. The gamble paid off big time! I had the Big Brisket sandwich and the seasoned fries which was fantastic. The sandwich was heaped with a flavorful stack of meat that stood on it's own without the need for bbq sauce. Out of curiosity I tried the sauce and it was great as well. A massive helping of seasoned fries with ranch dressing to dip them into was also great. The atmosphere is very inviting and makes you feel like you stepped back in time with the vintage advertising signs hung throughout. It gives you that old time saloon kind of feeling upon entering. The food came out very fast and was delivered to our table by a very friendly wait staff. Next time I roll through this cool little town I will make a point to eat there again.
