They have some larger and, maybe, not as old or breakable as inside. Inside are rooms of an old home with shelving filled with glassware, metal, lamps, fabric, clothing, books, pictures, and holiday items! The store has a whole section of Hallmark ornaments that is a dream come true for collectors! I really don't think you can get a complete view of every item on one visit. It is huge. And well organized for as much as they have. They have areas set off for each type of item. I will definitely go back soon and pick up items I regret not getting.

This is a worthwhile stop along the way to refresh with a cold drink, a bathroom break in their clean restrooms, or take time to visit this fun Museum & any other shops or restaurants that happen to be open in town when you visit. Funded by local donors and staffed by volunteers, it features a wide variety of displays on all aspects of life in this small community - residential life, economic development, schools, businesses, railroad expansion and more. Filled with photos and memorabilia, well displayed, it is well worth a trip off the 5 into years gone by. But Oakland is a community undergoing renewal - with new enterprises and residences, it is encouraging to see local support for preservation and education. My great grandfather had been station agent for Southern Pacific in Oakland in about 1905, and I was moved to donate some photos my grandfather had kept of his 1905 school group, and the community as a whole, which the volunteer host said was very well preserved! I have posted a number of photos of the interior. Like so many lesser known non profits, this museum doesn't have the funds for broader promotion and awareness, but it certainly does a great job of capturing the expansion of peoples and more in this lesser known region of Oregon. Hours vary depending on the availability of volunteers, but their facebook page is a great place to start. So happy to get a better understanding of this chapter in my own family's history!

If you're interested in the history of Douglas County, ancient fossils,…read morenative Americans, pioneers, or the surrounding area and you're passing through the area, you won't go wrong with a rest stop at this museum. There are all kinds of exhibits to see and touch. Mastodon and giant ground sloth bones, Native American artifacts, old farming equipment, an old railroad station, a wooden passenger train car, and much more. You can see the whole place in under 2 hours easily, and if you're in a hurry, you can skim the exhibits in less than an hour. I had an enjoyable experience wandering around the place. I also noted quite a bit of interactive stuff for kids, including an archeology dig, a "real" covered wagon, and even a faux campsite! You won't go wrong here. Bring the kids or the whole family for a fun afternoon or just an hour. Excelsior!
