There are all kinds of exhibits to see and touch. Mastodon and giant ground sloth bones, Native American artifacts, old farming equipment, an old railroad station, a wooden passenger train car, and much more. You can see the whole place in under 2 hours easily, and if you're in a hurry, you can skim the exhibits in less than an hour. I had an enjoyable experience wandering around the place. I also noted quite a bit of interactive stuff for kids, including an archeology dig, a "real" covered wagon, and even a faux campsite! You won't go wrong here. Bring the kids or the whole family for a fun afternoon or just an hour. Excelsior!

You walk through "nature" along a path that winds back and forth. There are other exhibits as well; all are interactive with buttons for sound of creature, more info and little drawers and other things for curious little hands to touch/open/lift and learn. Outdoors there is also a 10 minute nature trail. This would be an outstanding place for an elementary school age field trip! That said, as adults we learned new things, had just as much fun and for those interested - very nice gift shop on the way out.

I took my kiddos to my hometown to see where I grew up & we struck gold here because it doesn't get much cooler than this place. From the second you walk in the door you're just fascinated by what you see. From a giant jellyfish sculpture made out of melted beach plastic to interactive displays this place is pretty sweet. Upstairs they have an entire A-Z exhibit that you can tell was very well thought out & took a lot of effort & organization. Even the outside was beautiful. We will definitely be returning.

They wanted to take us to Skog's for brunch but they were closed during the day and only open for dinner. However, their other business Turkey Hall was open and we decided to stop in. Oakland, OR is a small little town that's great for antiques and the local Roseburg residents are very familiar with their food. It's a small town, everyone knows a everything. When someone new arrives and opens a business, everyone knows about it or has already gone there. Turkey Hall and Skog's is a family business and they are originally from Nevada with roots in Northern California. I asked if they have their website up and they are currently working on it. Their son took our order and was friendly/courteous. Since we had breakfast at home, we kept it light with some cheese bread and a bottle of wine. There were also breakfast (pastries/coffee options) as well as a buffet pasta lunch while we were there. I can see this place as an event venue (i.e., private parties) or a place that can host live music/entertainment. There are two stages (small outdoor and an indoor stage). PJ who handles the entertainment is the person to contact to book your band. I am in awe with the decor: hardwood, motorcycles and chandeliers, a rifle for a door handle. Also there are a couple of non-working slot machines to pay homage to their NV roots. I really enjoyed the outdoor area. It connects both Turkey Hall and Skogs for outdoor dining, but it's well shaded and a great place to relax and enjoy company. There is a full bar and a wine bar section. There's a lot of good things, I hope it's not too much of a good thing. I hope to come back and visit a once they are in full swing but since they are brand spanking new, I give them props for starting out.

The museum itself is on one level that wraps around, but the exhibits tell a unique story. A few notable stops is the world's oldest shoes on display. The exhibit about the Chinese immigrant community is an important stop. There's a gift shop in the front and clean restrooms. Staff are very helpful and passionate.

Pre Covid I went to a show and was deeply underwhelmed.This past weekend while visiting, I ran into an acquaintance and we both commented "did they change something? Wasn't this kind of a meh experience before?" Maybe they got the bigger Schnitzer collection out? New curators? I don't know what happened but it was GREAT. New works are top notch Japanese & Korean collections are small but stellar Contemporary & modern North American artists very broad and high quality choices. Single user bathroom on the second floor also a big winner as is the elevator and the tiny but compelling gift shop. Kudos all around (Wish the cute cafe would open back up. Fingers still crossed)

You need to buy an $8 pass to get in but that gets you into the museum and up the lighthouse so it's definitely worth it. The museum is two stories and has a basement with an art gallery. The top floor and basement are only accessible via stairs, so not mobility aid-friendly. There is some great history there and the artifacts are fascinating to look at. Take your time walking through and enjoy the history, it really is interesting! They have a bathroom on the main floor, I believe it's the only one on the grounds that is open to the public. They have a good amount of parking spots and it's easy to find the grounds, but miss the turn off 101 and you'll have to either drive a while to turn around or pull over and hope you get an opening to turn around. Definitely stop in here and support them! The history is amazing to see.

It really made his day. This is a great place to go if you want to learn about the history of Cottage Grove. They ask for a small donation of 2 dollars per person. The staff is great and very informative. Definitely worth supporting this foundation.
