The Yarn Club is located along Virginia Beach Blvd., basically across the street from the Lowe's and Wawa. There is a 7-11 next door, but the two parking areas are not connected, so be sure to come into the one that they have. My visit here was on May 10, 2025, with my mom. My mom does a lot of yarn stuff. What brought us here was for her to check out what they had available. With other craft stores closing over the past few years, the options are getting more limited in the area. There are several cameras around as well. When we came in, we were immediately greeted by the staff. They asked if we had any questions or if we were looking for something in particular. At that point, mom said that she was just looking, so nothing specific in mind. I was also looking around with what was available here. I didn't realize there were different forms of yarn. I thought yarn was yarn. I guess that makes it a yarning achievement for me. There are several yarns that are handcrafted and made locally. As such, prices are going to be higher as well. Some of them were pretty high, but it's understandable when they are locally made. However, there were more cost-effective ones available as well. In the end, mom didn't purchase anything in this visit. Overall, this was a nice visit. The staff were friendly, and we were able to just walk around and see if we found anything. There is a large selection of yarn, both locally and from other countries, so the wide selection is good. This place is worth checking out if you're looking for yarns that you may not find elsewhere. read more

Had driven by a few times but after they were closed today it was able to pop in and look around. Everybody was super friendly & Super helpful. Let me know that they have classes and some informal sessions if you need help which I will. I can do a scarf and a baby blanket and that is where my skill set ends They have a beautiful selection of yarns and there were also kits for the crochet animals that I would love to try and needle felting. Cute and unique. As a crafter , we don't see a lot yarn clubs in DMV area. The yards here are high quality and many were hand dyed. Lots of free patterns in the shops and that personal attentive service just unbeatable. The only down side comes with a private owned yarn club like this is the $$$, these are definitely not the kind of yarn for you to play with LOL read more

Wonderful selection of yarns from all over the country and Europe. However the owner & their mother will follow you around as if you're going to steal. They've already have cameras all around which I know they still check even when their other employees are working. P.O.C and lgbtq+ community beware- she will discriminate against you (and this is based off from my friends and I's personal experiences at this store.) Most recently I was at the shop with a friend and had not purchased yarn: I was just there with my friend and sat down to knit while she decided on what to buy. Yet I was flagged down by the owner and asked straight on if I was stealing any of her yarn. To which I said "no, I'm not a dishonest person. Do you wanna check my bag?" And she replied with "oh well know once you pass through the doors and set the alarm off." I was shook to my core. Specially since I've spend $$$ at this store before any of this happened. I feel like Mrs Andrea does not think before she speaks and ends up driving customers away. If you must check this store out to "support" local businesses beware that sometimes the store has yarn "on sale" but it's truly not. Check online before purchasing to make sure you're being accurately charged. I don't understand the need to charge extra to wind your yarn when the shop is never truly busy. Besides the readily availability of some yarns (instead of having to wait for orders to ship to me) the only other redeeming factor is debbie who works there, she the only one that's sweet and will not pester you around the store. read more

I visit The Yarn Club every time I am in VIrginia Beach to see my family (which has become more than an annual occurrence). At first I came because I am curious about what yarns different shops choose to carry, in general. However, I purchased this fall yarn which was hand-dyed by Andrea, the owner, and needed an additional skein to complete my project. Not only was it easy to process the re-order over the phone with one of her friendly team members, the order went out immediately on a Saturday and arrived at my door in Cleveland OH on Monday. Came here the 1st time when I brought my friend from out of town to find yarn for a knitting project. In the past I have knitted some and crochet a lot but had moved on to other things. The Yarn Club had a secret...besides having all that fantastic yarn for knitting and crocheting they offer weaving classes. I had always wanted to learn to weave so I signed up for a class, rented a loom (in case I didn't like weaving), bought beautiful yarn and fell in love! This place is fantastic. First and foremost, you are going to have a hard time finding a store with more variety and a larger inventory. They carry yarns from all over the world, in every weight, in every color and gradient and kit you can imagine. They also carry a full range of notions, hooks, needles, knitting bowls, etc. If you need help or want to be social, they have classes and a space to knit with friends. This store also carries weaving looms by Ashford and I believe offers weaving classes as well. However the biggest boon to this store is the owner, Andrea. She not only curates a fabulous collection of yarns to choose from, but she also is helpful and willing to go out of her way for you. Case in point: I live 3+ hours away but am addicted to a particular yarn no one else in the area carries. I had some $$ to spend yesterday and wanted a few (read: 10) new skeins. I headed south, happy to be on my way to yarn paradise. Traffic made my day a bit sketchy, and before I knew it there was a chance I wasn't going to be there by 5. I called the store. Andrea not only stayed a bit late for me, she did it on a day she had something else important to her to be at. THAT is customer service! Andrea and staff run a fun store, and there's no way you could walk in here needing yarn and walk out without finding something you like. If you're not sure what direction you want to go in, just ask. Someone will help you firm out your plans and figure out what you need. Andrea is also the "sheep" behind the "Sheep Graffiti" label, she is a dyer herself who makes really great gradient kits and fun colors of her own. I will not support this shop any longer. The owner of this shop needs to better understand what good customer service is. After browsing for about an hour I bought one skein and she responded with, "is that all you are getting?" I started a beginner knitting group and was sending my friends to her shop often buying 75$ worth of yarn and supplies. 90% of my friends had complaints about her and her staff. I was so embarrassed! After several rude interactions over many years, I finally thought it was time to voice my concerns. (Because I wanted to give her one more chance). I wrote her a very nice informative and supportive note about the service I have received. She was defensive and did not apologize. I have been contemplating writing this review for many months. I am very disturbed concerning the manner in which I was treated in this establishment. A friend was working with a gentlemen who worked there. I asked if I could try on a scarf, I wanted to see how the short scarf/shawl draped. ..please note that i asked and was told i could. I put it around my neck when the owner's mother walked up, grabbed the shawl from around me and told me ,"Do not try on our samples." Then the owner walked by and put it on herself and walked away. I have never been treated so poorly in a business nor have I ever been so humiliated. I will not walk into this shop and spend my hard-earned money. I went to the Hampton Roads area for a work trip and made sure that I got there early specifically to go to this shop. I was looking for a Neighborhood Fiber Co. yarn to get enough for a specific project (they didn't have the color I needed), needles for another project, and to browse, the best part. When I walked in they (employee and the owner's mother, I learned after I was there a bit) said hello and offered help. Of course, the minute I walked in the store I forgot the size needles I needed so I pulled out my phone and tried to find the pattern, then she came back over with her ipad and saved me the trouble. After I looked for the things on my list, I just browsed...and browsed...and browsed. They had an amazing selection, I didn't even see everything but I did look for my favorites: Neighborhood Fiber Co., Malabrigo, Rowan, and they had them all. The shop owner came in midway through my visit and showed me lots of sample projects, some I liked, some I didn't, but it was nice to be able to see patterns actually made and to see specific yarns worked up. I would never have known how soft Malabrigo Finito gets if I hadn't seen their sample piece. Employees were nice but not annoying and they were quick to answer my questions and make sure I had the right products for what I needed (almost bought the wrong size needle connector). The Yarn Club is the new kid on the block. Virginia Beach has had a lot of turnover in local yarn stores in recent years (RIP Ewe Knit Kits + Hook & I), but I really hope Yarn Club is here to stay because it's a really great store. The store is run by someone who used to work at Ewe Knit Kits -- in fact, she was my favorite employee at that store, and I was really bummed when that store closed. You can imagine my delight when I visited Yarn Club for the first time and spotted Andrea! She is extremely personable and welcoming. She's made it a point to carry brands that other local stores don't carry -- namely, MadelineTosh, which is of the most vibrant, lovely yarns on the market. There is always a HUGE selection of MadTosh and it is really, really tempting stuff. Seriously, one day I'm going to go in there and do something reckless like spend $150 on a sweater's worth of Tart. Oh dear. Yarn Club is also the only local store to sell KnitPicks needles, which are usually only available online through the company's website. (Plus, with buying online, you have to wait for the order to go through and several days for it to come in the mail. Blah.) It's a joy to be able to go to a local store and pick up a 60" cable for my KnitPicks interchangeable needles so I can cast on that sweater RIGHT NOW. I mostly knit socks, and I can attest that Yarn Club has a great selection of sock yarn. I don't really look at the heavier weight yarns, as I'm just starting to fall down the rabbit hole of sweater knitting. Bottom line: Yarn Club is the perfect example of "If you build it, they will come ... and buy the Mad Tosh they cannot buy anywhere else in town." read more

My husband is in hospice care. I went to this store for help on my socks. They said, oh, this isn't our yarn. WE use smaller needles, look there are holes here. I don't use THIS pattern. They are WAY too big. You need to use good yarn. WE have GOOD yarn. The mother of the owner took my socks off the two socks at a time toe up and made them one sock one needle. You could call and have a private lesson the way WE do it. I felt like I had been beat up and tortured. Very condescending and judgemental. NOT nurturing. I did buy yarn for their "help". They DO have a great selection and it is close. But I will never go there again. read more

Unwelcoming attitude in this shop. I traveled to VB on short ntice to care for my ill mother and did not have time to have the yarn for my project wound before I left home. After explaining my situation to a staff person and asking if they would wind my yarn for a fee, she abruptly said "no we can't do that--we only wind yarn purchased here". I reminded her I was happy to pay for the service and she still said no. Her only explanation was "it's our store policy". I then called Baa Baa Sheep, a yarn store in Norfolk, and the woman there said "oh no you don't have to pay, we'd be happy to wind it for you". One thing I love about knitting is the strong sense of community and mutual support among knitters. The Yarn Club obviously isn't part of this community. I recommend you take your knitting business elsewhere. read more

I was so delighted that this store had opened close to me. I purchased about 8 skeins of yarn to make a sweater. When I got home and attempted to roll the yarn into a ball I discovered that it was knotted together about every 2-3 feet. Anyone who knits knows this is very inferior yarn and almost impossible to work with. One doesn't just tie ends together of leftover yarn and pass it off as usable material. When I went to return it the manager would not take it back because I had opened the package. Needless to say I have not returned to the store and never will. Very poor business ethics. They won't even answer a simple knitting question without charging for their time. Most shops welcome anyone to come in and knit free of charge and enjoy coffee and tea. Not these people. Very disappointing. I don't know how to knit but have thought about trying to learn. I walked into this store and thought, wow, such beautiful yarn. So many colors and soft textures (I don't know much about yarn, but I know what feels nice). A woman greeted me quickly and asked if she could help. I asked about classes, she turned to another woman (we were walking further into the store) and the woman, who was on the phone in a smallish office behind the desk, said look on line. And went back to her call. I asked the first woman was there anyone else I could talk to? No. Anything in writing? She pointed to a sheet tapped on the counter that had class dates and a $45 written on top. Not much help. Does that include started supplies? Multiple classes if you don't get it the first time? All beginner classes? So, I wandered around the store a bit hoping the lady on the phone would conclude her conversation and help me. Nope. I walked out. Michaels has a lady that does knitting classes. Maybe it's not as upscale and posh as this place, but I think they're a lot nicer. read more

My over all experience was nice. The ladies that were working were super sweet and helpful, definitely loved their positions and it showed. Overhearing them talk to others they seemed more than knowledgeable. The owner (I'm 90% sure she was) was nice enough. The store was well set up, I had enough room to walk through the isles without my little one pulling everything down while holding him. When I did let my mischievous one year old down so I could look at some items the owner saw I was having a hard time looking and keeping things out of his hand so she offered to have him sit at the table with her iPad and play a game. There were a few ladies just hanging out knitting and talking, so sweet and definitely a group I could see myself joining. I look forward to sitting in on one of the social stitching groups. The selection of yarn was medium/large and very nice. I was even lucky enough to get some on sale. I can't wait to figure what I'm going to use it for. One employee was even trying to help give me ideas. The notions selection was smaller but it seems like they have specific brands they prefer and want to offer only what they would use. When she learned it was my first visit and I had taught myself she encouraged me to come hang out and knit, offering to make sure I hadn't picked up any bad habits from YouTube and said we would try and occupy the little one while I was there. Overall I will return (I have to, the stitch markers were misplaced and didn't make it to my bag lol) and I would recommend yarn addicts to take a browse :-) read more

There is no place more helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and fun than The Yarn Club!! No matter what craft you are interested in fiber wise it's there! Andrea and Lora and everyone who works there are experienced, down to earth and friendly. But the Yarn!!!!! Oh my!! It's so beautiful! Always something new. I just love this place! My daughter is stationed in Virginia Beach and I went down recently for a visit and spent several hours at the shop. My younger daughter came with me and was upset when her phone lost its charge. The owner graciously pulled her charger out of the wall and offered it to my daughter along with an iPad for her to occupy herself while I shopped. If you have a question, problem or you need to learn a technique there is always someone who will guide you. Andrea has opened her shop for social knitting which is wonderful.
