A large, fading luxury property located across the river from Porto with excellent views of the city. We stayed for 3 nights in late September/early October in room 514. It's a fairly large property and a member of The Relais & Château association. Things I liked: -our room was quite large with a big patio and million dollar view -large variety of food/restaurant options-particularly liked the food at the bar (a bit more familiar to Americans weary of Portuguese food) -friendly, helpful staff-especially Luis at Dicks bar, Sara at breakfast and the bell staff (front desk just ok) -breakfast was included and the buffet, while fairly typical for Europe in terms of food, was ample and fresh and service was good-especially Sara -nice outdoor pool although as it was September and a bit cool, only saw seagulls using it -good location with beautiful views of the city and bridges-all rooms have a view-hotels #1 asset -they use a service to harass the seagulls with a cool guy who flys Lucifer, a Harris hawk around most afternoons-he was GREAT to talk with and learn about the bird. Opportunities: -the hotel decor may be considered "classic" by some but to me the creamy yellow walls and orange drapes in our room and the slightly shabby carpet felt a bit like grandma's living room-i think the hotel is in need of a refresh to bring it up to today's standards -Wi-Fi coverage just ok -good in room but weak on patio and public places like restaurant and bar and a bit inconsistent -lack of available electricity or USB ports by bed for charging electronics - to me is a must for this level of hotel -smaller bathroom with only a single sink and older fixtures-shower is small and water leaked out all over bathroom floor Like so many places in Porto, this large property seems geared to the large, ever increasing tour bus groups. There were also some corporate groups during our stay. Our room was comfortable enough but wasn't quite up to snuff with the features of today's luxury properties. That said, the view alone is reason enough to stay here and if you readjust your expectations a bit-say older Marriott property- its a fine place to stay. Definitely not a top-tier luxury resort and definitely not as posh as other Relais Château properties we've visited.

Wow. I almost don't want to write this review because this hotel/restaurant is 10/10. Arthur has been amazing and we appreciate all his knowledge along with the spectacular views. Thank you for having us.

One of the best views of Porto from Gaia... definitely worth checking out. We visited before heading to lunch and decided to seat in the outside terrace. Please make sure you have your camera at hand because you will want to take lots of pictures. The hotel is beautiful , the decor is exquisite, take a stroll down the hallways and see some of the one of a kind art displays and souvenir shops. Even though our stay was short, we were able to enjoy Taylor's 12 year port wine overlooking the amazing city of Porto. This is definitely a place to disconnect , relax and enjoy the view. Our waiter was extremely polite and courteous. We tried their cheese platter and had 2 glasses of wine each , rounded up to about $70 , definitely not a cheap place for portuguese standards , but the experience is definitely worth it.

Great hotel with cool views. They need furniture for all the rooms. Breakfast buffet is pretty solid too. I love Porto!

Great hotel, the staff here is amazing. They attentive to your needs!! The room is amazing! Both pools have a great view as and same owners as the Taylor winery across the street which is quality!! Definitely check out Taylor winery as well if you come to Porto!! Love this place!

First, there is massive construction in front of the hotel that should have been finished last year but the new completion date is TBD. Thankfully, our room faced the back of the hotel, looking out into an interior apartment complex, so we didn't have to deal with the early-hour jackhammering. But if I had shelled out some serious money for the Intercontinental brand and a pretty view of Praça da Liberdade, Porto's main square, and was just looking out at a construction lot covered in tarp, I'd be pretty disappointed. Service here was iffy. When we got to the hotel, the bellboy took our bags and, since the concierge was busy, pointed us to some empty seats nearby; I assumed we'd then be next. Then a line starts forming for people waiting to check in as we're sitting there before we finally realize we need to be standing in the line. We never got much of a "Good morning" or "Have a nice day" from the bellboys, only a very diffident nod. We had a hotel credit and used it at the bar; food was exceptionally mediocre and, par for the course, extremely expensive. Two redeeming points for the hotel: 1. The breakfast buffet was pretty good, with several options and fresh fruit. Still doesn't hold a candle to the legendary hotel buffets in Asia. 2. The location was stellar, easy walking distance to most tourist attractions and the bridges in Porto. That's probably what drives the price up. Wouldn't stay here again.

Hubby and I arrived first because we took an earlier train from Lisbon. Initially, the other two rooms were on the same floor and ours was on a separate floor so I asked if it was possible for us to at all be together on the same floor, if not all of the rooms could be next to each other. They ended up upgrading us to a really nice suite! It had a little terrace you could open up and a separate sitting area. Lucky for us! Not so lucky for the other two rooms. Though their rooms were nice too, just not as spacious. Here are some of the pros/cons of our stay: Pros: -Spacious and clean rooms -Nice public sitting area outside of the suite rooms, where we could meet up before heading out -Mini fridge with bottled water and Coca Cola -Each floor has a different theme, which I thought was really cool. You'll see a different scent-themed decor (and smell) for each. For example, one floor was coffee, another was chili, and another was star anise -Very reasonably prices. We booked through Hotels.com and paid maybe about €110 per night, including taxes -Great location! It's right in the center of Porto and most of the tourist attractions and good restaurants are 5-10 minute walk away -Huge bathroom with his and hers sinks and plenty of space underneath for your toiletries -Comfortable beds/pillows. Although it wasn't a true King size, more like two twins pushed together but I think that's just a European thing -Bath robes -Free welcome drink at their hotel bar (which you don't have to use on the same night as you check in if you're too tired) -They let us check in early at around 12:30 even though check-in is not until 2 or 3 Cons: -There is construction going on outside so it's a little bit more difficult (though not impossible) to get an Uber outside. We took an Uber from the Santa Apolonia train station. He couldn't drop us off right in front but it was still just around the corner, so it wasn't terrible even with our huge luggages Honestly, I can't really think of any cons other than that. Highly recommend Pestana Porto. Might be one of the best hotels I've stayed at in Europe!

We were able to walk everywhere in just a few minutes. It is located a little off the beaten path which made it really quiet and relaxing. We stayed down by the river front and across the river most of the time. If you want to go up into the city center, I recommend taking the funicular or uber if you don't want to walk up a huge flight of stairs. The walk to the city center is straight up the entire time but it was fine because we took a break at a coffee shop. This hotel has a beautiful rooftop bar with a really pretty and quiet view of the river. Our room was clean and the tile accents were beautiful. The front desk and bar staff were really friendly and everyone spoke English. If we go back to Porto, we would definitely stay here again.

AC doesn't work well, so you are warned for the summer months. Room was spacious, super clean and very comfortable. Not as many ammenities as other hotels, but you do get the robe and slippers and toiletries (attached to the wall). Not too shabby. The staff for the most part are GREAT. On our first day some really couldn't answer questions/seemed confused and had issues with both English and Spanish, but we got through it. They try hard, and that is worth something. The lobby is small and can get crowded quickly. And now Bicicleta - the most unfriendly, obnoxious and unhelpful group of people I have met in Portugal or in most places. ABSOLUTELY THE PITS. Starting with Mr. Grumpy bouncer with an idiot attitude that is like a drill Sargeant when it came to checking on people not walking in from the streets on their way to the CROWDED breakfast room. (with bfast included in your price I can understand their concerns, but this guy was a bully). Most of the staff have a godforsaken look on their unfriendly faces, so if you are just wandering in to look around, expect to be inspected from head to toe and treated like you are a threat to society. NOT FRIENDLY. Breakfast: Where the coffee machine is located creates a mess of a line in front of the hot breakfast buffet area. Food is not bad, but navigating it gets very confusing. And when you add on the most of the staff are simply the worst you will encounter in hospitality, it makes for a mess. KUDOS however to how management handled the power outage. With back up generator, aging adults were able to use the elevator and toilets flushed. COLD shower, but they had power. What didn't manage the situation well was of course Bicicleta, who could only offer salad and didn't think about bread and cheese and cold cuts. Hotel management of the situation was SUPERB. Bicicleta? They should just keep peddaling into another country and leave for good. Have I said they are a dissappointing crew for the most part? All in all, I would still stay here, now that I know my way around town, because the location is great and management works hard to please!
