Not worth the price even if you're on a corporate account. You can find much better stays with the same access to central Porto. First, there is massive construction in front of the hotel that should have been finished last year but the new completion date is TBD. Thankfully, our room faced the back of the hotel, looking out into an interior apartment complex, so we didn't have to deal with the early-hour jackhammering. But if I had shelled out some serious money for the Intercontinental brand and a pretty view of Praça da Liberdade, Porto's main square, and was just looking out at a construction lot covered in tarp, I'd be pretty disappointed. Service here was iffy. When we got to the hotel, the bellboy took our bags and, since the concierge was busy, pointed us to some empty seats nearby; I assumed we'd then be next. Then a line starts forming for people waiting to check in as we're sitting there before we finally realize we need to be standing in the line. We never got much of a "Good morning" or "Have a nice day" from the bellboys, only a very diffident nod. We had a hotel credit and used it at the bar; food was exceptionally mediocre and, par for the course, extremely expensive. Two redeeming points for the hotel: 1. The breakfast buffet was pretty good, with several options and fresh fruit. Still doesn't hold a candle to the legendary hotel buffets in Asia. 2. The location was stellar, easy walking distance to most tourist attractions and the bridges in Porto. That's probably what drives the price up. Wouldn't stay here again. read more

I was exceptionally worried about our stay here after reading about all of the construction in front of the hotel from the metro line being constructed (plan to end in 2025!). However thankfully I did not book a room with a view of the city hall and Av Aliandos. The rooms with the view would have to face the noisy construction. Our room was facing a quiet courtyard with apartment buildings surrounding it. And it was quiet as a pin drop! Even during New Year's Eve! They even had heavy blackout curtains. The service was certainly top! They always put more tea for me, extra water bottles in the room, and snacks throughout each day of our stay (from cakes, pasteis de nata, fresh fruits, and chocolates). They were certainly always thoughtful with their touches. On top of it all, the breakfast was excellent! Fresh made to order egg dishes, plus a plethora of hot dishes (beans, cooked tomatoes, mushrooms, potatoes and even miso soup!). They certainly knew how to cater to different tastes. Also the location could not get more central! Right in the middle of all the sites and walking distance from any where you wish to visit in Porto. Also, the staff here is so friendly and kind. They are so accommodating for our needs. The hotel is very cute and clean! We got free breakfast included in our stay and the food was so good! This was a special and once in a lifetime trip for our 10 year wedding anniversary and my 60th birthday. It was ruined by having to stay in this hotel. I was embarrassed in front of my wife for booking this hotel. This hotel is almost uninhabitable. This was the worst hotel stay I have had in hundreds of hotel stays in my life. The hotel website does not mention the incredibly loud and intrusive construction going on, right in front of the hotel. On top of the myriad issues the construction caused, there were other issues. There was little to no air conditioning. The room was very warm, and we could not get the AC to turn on most of the time. When it did, it did not cool the room down at all. A maintenance person explained something about how the outside temperature was overwhelming the ability of the AC to cool the rooms. All I know is the room was hard to sleep in due to the temperature, and we did not get one night of good sleep during a 5 night stay. The car traffic due to the construction right in front of the hotel makes taxi/Uber pickup and drop off dangerous and difficult. The foot traffic due to the construction right in front of the hotel is overwhelming, and unsafe. There were hordes of people near the front entry of the building due to the construction. Due to the construction in the front of the building we were told sometimes to exit in the back of the building to reach certain parts of the city. We'd walk through a maze of homeless and drug users in the back alley of the hotel. Very dangerous. The room was not very clean. Our safe broke with my passport locked inside! But it was fixed quickly. The bathroom sink backed up due to a clog. The shower stall had broken handles inside it. I could go on. When I complained after our stay, they did not reply. When I followed up, 8 days later, they said a manager would contact me, and they added 20,000 points to my IHG account. According to NerdWallet's analysis, 20,000 IHG points are worth about $140. That is an offensive offer after they destroyed 6 days/5 nights of vacation. Those are important memories lost and ruined. This hotel should be closed until the construction is completed. A manager did call me eventually, and left me a voicemail. At that point I was already back in the U.S. and a phone call would be diffcult, and I was too busy catching up on work to waste time on a phone call. I asked them to email me if they had any reply or solution, but I never heard back. I am going to write off my 5 nights in Porto. Bottom line is DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL UNTIL CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE! I hear that may not be until 2025! If you want to enjoy Porto, and a have safe and quiet stay, pick another hotel. read more

Spent three days in Porto and this was the perfect spot from which to explore. Took the train from Lisbon and one of the reasons I chose this hotel was its location--literally right next to the Sao Bento station, it made the arrival process super easy. Staff were accommodating and allowed me to see another room and switch as I was concerned that the second floor facing the Main Street would be noisy. Super quiet, luxurious bed and huge bathrooms. Walking distance to everything really; and if you don't feel like walking, Uber comes in handy. Nice tavern Tapabento is right next to the station and highly recommended (read my review on it). Also close to Livraria Lello. Tip to go online and secure ticket (5euro which can be applied to any book purchase) which then allows you to skip the massive line and saunter into bookstore. read more

Our Tauck tour arrived in Porto Portugal in the late afternoon. They had chosen this Hotel in particular because of its central location for walking tours in the old city. I would have preferred a hotel off the Douro River near the Port wine makers, but I understand the logic. This Hotel is a converted 18th-century palace that oversees Avenida dos Aliados, also next to the Estação de São Bento train station, and a short walk to Sé do Porto cathedral. The lobby is extravagant with high ceilings and chandeliers. The rooms are also elegant with marble bathrooms and spacious comfortable room. The Hotel provides breakfast as part of your stay. They also offer massages and beauty treatments in their spa. We really did not have the time to take advantage of the Hotel amenities unfortunately. . read more

This intercontinental hotel is very mean and hostile. My wife and I was walking in the street of Porto. Suddenly we feel the need for a rest room. We came inside this hotel. There was a lady who sits in front of the entrance and watch people like hawks. She wouldn't let us use their rest room because we are not hotel guests. We are very unhappy. Intercontinental hotel is a 5 star hotel. They should show some courtesy for potential customers like us. We are IHG plantium members and we stay at at least 20 to 30 intercontinental hotels before. We never saw this at the other intercontinental hotels that is so mean to potential customers. This hotel is so conveniently located right in the center of the main square of the city. You are walking distance from so many sights and eateries (but walking those hills will definitely get you). The service was wonderful! The staff at this establishment provided amazing service. The moment you walk into the hotel, you're well taken care of. The rooms are a good size, the beds and pillows were plush, and the bathroom was just great. Oh yeah, they also have air conditioning year round (yeah!). Highly recommend this hotel! read more

We LOVED our stay here. My husband and I stayed at their junior suite for four nights for our honeymoon. The staff is incredible helpful - I was feeling sick with a fever and cough several nights and they brought us teas, lemons, and honey. This place was recommended by our concierge at AMEX but when we arrived we found out there is a major construction project going on all along the front of the building. It is consuming several acres of land on is operating 24 hours a day. It appears to be tunneling under the hotel. Last night at 11 PM we got to listen to jack hammers from our room. They offered to upgrade us when we arrived but they suites were in the front of the hotel closest to the project. Our room is in the back of the hotel but the noise is under and in front of the building. Our room was shaking last night from construction. It's a beautiful hotel but AMEX should NOT be recommending it to their best customers. read more

Checked in late night and the front desk was warm and welcoming. Check in was a breeze, the bellman helped us with our luggage and was very helpful in getting us comfortable in the room. This place has the worst service I have ever encountered ever in Portugal! The staff has a very poor attitude. The bar closes really early so there is no where to relax in the evening. The breakfast was not edible. The recondition from the so called " Concierge" were horrible. We were directed to place that clearly were paying them to direct customers there not good places at all! A 5 star, 5 star ! Incredible customer service. The concierge are awesome, nothing is too much trouble for Rui and Rodregiez. Tours booked, restaurant reservations made and cancelled and remade ! No problem. With other customers, they'll call you back and they do. Need your wine and water from dinner brought to your room, no problem. Early check in / late checkout, of course. Complementary wine with dinner, check. Basically, you want it you got it. The room was lovely and spotlessly clean. Great view over the square. The only downside was a traffic jam on the street between 5pm-6pm with lots of honking of car horns. Hotel is well positioned to explore Porto on foot. We recently stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The hotel is located centrally, close to the train station and to all main sights and transportation. We drove and used the hotel parking service for €29/night. Check in was quick and easy. We arrived early, so our room wasn't ready, but we left our things while we went to explore. When we came back, we were pleased to find our room was spacious and comfortable. The bed especially was very plush. There was adequate storage, the wifi was perfect, and everything was clean. We had a great view over the square with gorgeous French doors and a little balcony. The bathroom was big and had lots of counter space. The shower was hot with great pressure. All of the staff were very nice and accommodating, especially the concierge staff who always greeted us by name. However (and this is not their fault), it seems the concierge desk and front desk are understaffed. Several times when we came back with our car, there was no room in the temporary parking area to leave it. The concierge staff move the cars to the lot, but they were so busy with guests they didn't have time. Being on a busy street, this was problematic. Also, there was often a long line at the concierge and at the front desk. We had to wait for the concierge once more than 20 minutes. When we checked out, there were 3 desks but only 1 was staffed. The staff who are there are superb, but they need help! I can't see how they will be able to function in the high season. Still, I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel. read more

Super nice hotel, VERY helpful staff. Only reason I went 4 star instead of 5 (and it is a 5 star hotel) is probably due to my being used to US hotels. There's no top sheet on the beds (which are very comfortable) but just a big comforter. All top quality but in our room, which was a huge 2 floor deal (thanks for the upgrade!) The windows dont open and the ac didn't get the room cold enough for a heavy blanket like that..I need something on top of me or I can't sleep though. I woke up in a full blown sweat later. And a totally silly thing I guess.. the tv had no sleep button which I guess I missed! Haha But seriously overall, very nice hotel, beautiful building, awesome location, attentive staff and beautiful rooms! Would totally come back. read more
