You can't feel guilty when you eat food from here, because it's sooooo lovely and made with such good quality ingredients. They bake their own bread fresh every day, their sourdoughs and foccacia are gorgeous and eaten with some of their cheeses or chutneys or spreads - are to absolutely die for. They also offer catering for private events and functions - my friends' wedding was catered by them and it was absolutely faultless. Their breads were on offer to start, along with some gorgeous tapenades, and their main was a buffet choice of salmon or spicy chicken, I wish I could remember the name of the dishes but they were gorgeous, and there was enough for seconds. They are definitely in the upper bracket price wise, but everything they do is of excellent quality and guaranteed to make your mouth water.

My first experience of this superb food haunt and private catering company came at last years Belfast food festival in Botanic Gardens. Every year, local restaurants plus those from the US and Canada servce a range of culinary delights with the backdrop of local music and, weather permitting, warm sunny weather. One of the stalls which took my fancy was the Yellow Door Deli. At first I thought it was one of the foreign stalls harking from the land of the free but infact it had only travelled less than a mile to get here. The deli had several types of dish on offer for a few tokens (purchased upon entry) I sampled suckling pork belly served with caramelised apples and lamb loin, seared with spice and served with parsnip chips. The pork was divine. As I've said before I am a complete sucker for slow cooked pork, and this was some of the finest I've had thus far. A crisp layer of fat sat on a base of mouth wateringly tender seasoned meat. A layer of fat just melted away and with the tart honeyed apples the combination was truly outstanding. The lamb was also up to the same standard. A perfectly seared piece of loin, cooked perfectly pink. Tender, well fed and of outstanding provenance. I've also had some of their breads and they are also superb. Fresh, traditionally made crusty loaves went exceedingly well with the home made potted crab I made.

Among other things there is high quality bacon and locally produced smoked salmon. All sortsof specialised ingredients are likely to be here with things you don't find often such as the Canadian Clover Crest honey which I bought. The only trouble for me is that Arcadia is so far away up the traffic laden Lisburn Road though the longish opening hours are helpful. Mind you, perhaps it is just as well as I'd be overspending far too much.

I'm not up on my deli / speciality foods, nor do I know my Perches from my Pollocks (apparently types of fish...yeah, I didn't know that either) but even I realised the extent of Arcadia's wonderfulness. Plus they sell American sweets. No longer was I interested in the Snappers or the Sea Breams (yep, more fish), the Gruyere or the Gouda (cheese this time)...I eyes were solely fixed on the sweetie selection. Picking up a packet of peanut butter M&Ms (I don't like peanut butter, nor do I like M&Ms), the feeling of the novelty of purchasing something that is so highly sought after over here overcame me. And so, they were bought for the grand price of £1.49. My sister, on the other hand, eyes popping out of her head, was visibly distressed by the varied and unusual choice of confectionery which lay before her. Well, Willy Wonka was the lucky man this particular day, and she selected a packet of 'Wonka Nerds'. And now I am officially going to immigrate to the USA. Ohhh, these are good. These are really, really good. Tiny drops of wild cherry and watermelon explode with flavour the moment you pop them in your mouth and start chewing. It's been nice knowing you all...I'll see you on the other side. (Of the ocean).

I've seen the sign out on the main road (which would be easy to miss) every day as it's on my commute to work and yet I've never been in. So this worked out well. What a great hidden gem, loved this place. If you're looking for it, it is opposite the attendant-less Maxol garage, down the side of the used car place. The décor has all the hallmarks of a trendy contemporary coffee shop/deli, nothing too original, but to their credit they have distilled the design to the best elements of it and then executed the layout very well, so it's a nice place to be. The staff were great too which I love as there is little to endear a place to me more quickly than nice people working there who are nice, not through customer training but because they are just good folks!! The food when was great, a wide range of mouth-watering choices are clearly displayed across the huge menu..... which is the entire back wall of the place. It has been painted in blackboard paint and the menu chalked up in big clear writing. The prices although on the higher end of average aren't extortionate by any means so I wouldn't call it cheap eats but you get top quality food and service for just north of average price. The coffee was great, which is an essential element for me and the last thing I ate was a scone..... as we were there so early, it was freshly backed and still warm from the oven......................... so so good!

I order the same thing every time, it's the buffalo chicken hot wrap. It's chicken tossed in a really tasty and not overly hot buffalo sauce and placed in a wrap with their own selection of salads but can be tailored to your liking, then toasted until it's just right. The best time to go is about 11-11:30 before the lunch time rush and phoning ahead with your order is advisable, unless you haven't been before and don't know the menu items. Simple brunch menu and have to say was really tasty and efficient and all home cooked. I had wheaten bread with poached egg and Ballymaloe relish, the bread was from French Village and lovely and the eggs had runny yolks which I love. They do fresh smoothies and don't appear to fry anything as there was a choice of poached or scrambled on the menu. They also have soya and almond milk, (unsweetened almond milk) I was delighted as not many do this. The other half had a grill and nothing was greasy or left a grease mark on the plate and nothing was left on the plate. This consisted of toast, poached eggs (runny yolks) large mushroom and bacon. Was simple and effective although the table was very small for everything.  Nice and friendly place with friendly efficient service and also reasonable compared to other places.

Thank you Colin W and Brian H for the excellent recommendation!
