Wanted to stop at a shop that had unique coffee creations and we found Lake Country Crafts and Cones! I got the medium iced Cini-Mini Latte with almond milk and it was so good. Whenever we come up to the cabin, a trip to the 'cone store' is on our to do list! The staff is always friendly and the portions are plentiful! One thing that was a bit disappointing on my last visit here was that when they closed at 10 pm, they practically shoved us out the door at 10:01, and locked the doors behind us! I was thinking it would have been nice if they let us finish our ice cream, but we had to finish it outside, in the dark, as they turned off all of the outside lights. Ice cream was great! Employees did not know what I meant by gluten free when asked about flavors. One employee asked me if I wanted dairy free ice cream. They also told me to go look in the cooler for an ice cream sandwich. There was an allergen list posted in the back, but it should be posted on the coolers for customers to see. Immediately the staff started this song called "closing time" and turned it up to the point we couldn't hear each other talk. This is a cute little place in Crosslake. I love stopping here whenever going to my cabin for something sweet! The ice cream here is awesome! You really can't beat a good Kemp's ice cream cone! My personal favorite is the Moose Tracks! I also think the Java Chip is very yummy too! My dad and brother absolutely love the Superman ice cream though! It is hard to find all of the flavors they have here in one place. It is awesome to be able to have this variety at a place up north. The is some sitting area inside and outside when it is nice out! This is lifetime up north tradition!! My first cone here was as a child and I still visit here several times a year. It's always crowded but the kids who work here scoop up like lightening. This year they built a huge addition so there is a plethora of indoor seating which used to be in very short supply. They boast 32 flavors of Kemp's icecream. You don't need more than a single scoop...believe me. I always get the rum black cherry as it's not available in the stores. (Not that I've seen.) Their signature is to put a jelly bean in the bottom of the cone so it doesn't leak. Huge thumbs down for the black jelly bean in the bottom of mine and the two kid's cones. I came in here with my sisters and grandparents and they were incredibly rude and short tempered with us. The tension was so high, we felt awkward staying so we took our ice cream and left. On the way out, they started to BLARE music. It was embarrassing and childish. I have been coming here every summer since I was a little kid, so this experience was incredibly disheartening. The highlights are the hand made quilts and scarves. Some of the lamps were very nice as well. The tchotchkes with your name on them I can do with out - but OK for kids. I've visited this area of Minnesota every summer for my entire life, but this was the first time I visited this place (as the coffee shop I usually regular had no water that morning). It was two carloads of adults and kids...and they handled the 9 of us all at once well. The coffees were good, and the crafts area was fun to poke around in. Prices were reasonable (especially for me as my mom bought my coffee - thanks mom!). I wish the seating area inside was a bit bigger - there was another large group there (perhaps a weekly gathering of a ladies' organization) so seating was tight. Staff were patient with us "citiots". Wish there were more pastry items, though to be fair there may have been and they were cleared out by t he ladies who arrived before us. It was early AM so ice cream was not an option, as we did not want to set a bad example for the kids...but I think if the kids were not with us we may have indulged. Most Friday (and/or) Saturday night we go pile in the SUV's (usually a group of 6-10) and we stand in the 1/2 block line and await our turn to pick out our flavor of choice. Service is fast and friendly. Servings are GENEROUS and price is good. However, we stopped on Thursday evening to get ice cream and as we ordered at the drive through were told at every flavor we asked for that they were out. In such a busy area after a holiday weekend I get it but at the same time I don't understand how you don't know and plan for it! After the fourth flavor and hearing were actually out of that too.
