Just saw The Mousetrap* there and we were thoroughly entertained. There was plenty of parking, we could enter easily, and the seating was pretty comfortable. There seem to be no bad seats, but not sure how the acoustics are at the very back. This was an event sponsored by Creative Aging of Memphis. The program didn't include any cast notes nor were there introductions - my only dissappointment. *-This play was the longest -running in the world last time I checked. I've been here for various plays over the years and always had a good time. I appreciate that the seats are big enough to fit people reasonably comfortably. I have always enjoyed the plays I've seen here. I just recently saw Beauty and the Beast and they did a fantastic job with it! I will definitely continue attending plays here. read more

Not sure why I never reviewed one of my absolute favorite places in Memphis til now! Well, I guess I just gave this review away with that statement...but just listen to the why! Every theatre company in Memphis works hard to get their productions right. Every theatre house in Memphis is a joy to attend. Theatre Memphis just has something I have not experienced at any other: a welcoming family experience. I could go on and on with how awesome their productions are every time. The actors that are chosen are always a perfect fit for their roles. The scenery and costumes never fail to wow me. The directors at Theatre Memphis know how to time everything in a way that shows off the actor's personal style. The orchestra and sound systems provide a very enjoyable experience every time. This is a theatre made up mainly of volunteers guys! These people come to the theatre after a full day of work at their respective jobs and rehearse and rehearse and rehearse to perfect their production. The skill and attitude of these workers are amazing to me. I volunteered here for a bit over a year and got to see how much goes into these productions. I was like family here and I knew nothing in the beginning! Patience and kindness go a long way! If you ever want to volunteer your time here, you will learn alot more than you ever imagined. This is where I used my first power tool, changed my first costume, pulled my first curtain, and many more experiences. Timeless Classic is still Classic My wife and I took our family to see "A Christmas Carol" this past season. It was quite good. Now, we have been a number of times through the years - Theatre Memphis has been doing this for over 40 years, so many of you have possibly seen it. (If you haven't, put it on your "Christmas List" for next year.) When I ordered our tickets, I originally thought we were closer to the back. Imagine our surprise when I picked up our tickets at Will Call and they were on the very first row. Also imagine when it started and the cast rises up directly in front of us. Yes, it was quite an experience - a good one, at that. It had been a few years since we had last seen it, so there were a few changes (I used to quite enjoy seeing the "Ghost of Christmas Present" rising slowly up on his entrance). All of the actors gave very good performances and we all left ready to enjoy our Christmas Season. Again, if you have not had the opportunity, add it to your list for next Christmas. Theatre Memphis is a Memphis gem. I love dressing up and catching a show here- the atmosphere is perfect. Not as grand as The Orpheum, but still grand. There are always entertaining shows scheduled and I look forward to seeing Cabaret here in 2011. The sets are so impressive and the casts incredibly talented. Each year, Theatre Memphis puts on a production of A Christmas Carol, a nice little tradition that Memphians always enjoy. Theatre Memphis also has a touring group called Showagon that performs at schools and libraries, as well as a kids group named KidsWagon that allows children to audition, rehearse and perform- an awesome component of arts education in Memphis. read more

I was very unimpressed with my experience here. Having won tickets to a show at the Orpheum, I noticed that the program book contained a coupon for a show at Theatre Memphis. I was unable to use the coupon code online, so I had to order my tickets by phone. Ok, fine. However, when a friend and I arrived for our show, both will call and the box office were unable to locate our tickets -- despite the fact the my credit card had already been charged, and I had that card with me. Only my ever more forceful questions about how they were going to fix this (with the minutes to curtain steadily ticking down) led to them issuing us new tickets, with assurances that these were better seats. Wait a minute...if you can't find MY tickets, how do you know these are better?! Tickets obtained, however, we settled into our seats and enjoyed the show, and I thought that was the end of it. Then the junk mail started, addressed to my incorrectly spelled name and address -- no wonder they couldn't find my tickets! A phone call to request removal from their list produced no results, and I had to call a second time and provide the misspelled version of my name. Neither person seemed at all interested in why I was so bent on NOT receiving their mailings, which is indicative of the attitude here. Obviously, I will never be attending another show at Theatre Memphis. read more

I had never been to Theatre Memphis before our recent attendance of 42nd Street at the end of their 2017-2018 season. The building is far larger than it looks from the outside, housing two theaters: one a black box, the other the standard proscenium stage. The performance was top-notch, and the theater was very well-maintained. It was a great experience from start to finish. We will definitely make more of an effort to attend plays here next season! read more

South Pacific was absolutely beautiful!! Everything was wonderful!! The voices, the music, the lighting, all perfect. And yes I cried at the end. I was happy to find out that this particular performance was sold out!! I love going to this theater. It's so quaint and cozy. read more

If you're looking for something fun to do this holiday season, you have got to come check out a Christmas Carol. I was so surprised by how amazing the performance was! These guys went all out. Special effects. Dramatics. They have one of the best performances for this classic that I've ever seen. Hands down the best depiction of Marley and the ghost of Christmas future! My jaw literally dropped a number of times during the performance. How have I not been here before in the 6 years that I have lived in Memphis?! I will certainly be checking out more performances by these guys in the future. Heads up though: for this particular performance, if you have any respiratory problems or are just not okay with inhaling/basking in the fog from a fog machine, definitely steer clear of the front rows. A lot of folks had a problem with it, but I though it was friggin' awesome! read more

I am not a fan of plays, the theater, and especially musicals. I decided to take my daughter to a Christmas carol. at theater Memphis. Easy to get to, in a decent area, and plenty of parking. Will call is not clearly marked , so we ended up standing in the bar line for about 10 minutes , until we got close enough to see that it wasn't the ticket line. When we finally fond will call, the lady there said " follow that girl, she has the tickets" so we did as instructed and finally got our tickets. we bought them online and they had them waiting for us . i highly recommend this way of getting tickets, minus the waiting in the bar line part. the theater is small, clean and nice. The play was so cool. The actor who played scrooge, had me in tears feeling bad for him. so good. the songs were Christmas songs which made it better for me as i hate musicals. The actors were all very good. didn,t like silent night , sung in a different language, but his voice was good. had an intermission and we were hungry , not much to eat there. you have your choice of $2 cookie or $4 dollar milk or dark chocolate bar with scrooge the actor on the label. The cookies were sold out, so we opted for the dark choc bar. a tad small for $4 , but we didn't feel ripped off, especially if some of the proceeds went towards the great program they have there. the 1 star deduction was for the ticket confusion, the lack of ushers to direct you where to go. or clearly marked signs. and the lack of decent food options. we're going back next year for "hairspray" , one of my little girls favorites, woe is me. ha ha , jk, theater Memphis made me like theater more. which says a lot. read more
