Opening stage set for Beauty and the Beast

Not sure why I never reviewed one of my absolute favorite places in Memphis til now! Well, I guess I just gave this review away with that statement...but just listen to the why! Every theatre company in Memphis works hard to get their productions right. Every theatre house in Memphis is a joy to attend. Theatre Memphis just has something I have not experienced at any other: a welcoming family experience. I could go on and on with how awesome their productions are every time. The actors that are chosen are always a perfect fit for their roles. The scenery and costumes never fail to wow me. The directors at Theatre Memphis know how to time everything in a way that shows off the actor's personal style. The orchestra and sound systems provide a very enjoyable experience every time. This is a theatre made up mainly of volunteers guys! These people come to the theatre after a full day of work at their respective jobs and rehearse and rehearse and rehearse to perfect their production. The skill and attitude of these workers are amazing to me. I volunteered here for a bit over a year and got to see how much goes into these productions. I was like family here and I knew nothing in the beginning! Patience and kindness go a long way! If you ever want to volunteer your time here, you will learn alot more than you ever imagined. This is where I used my first power tool, changed my first costume, pulled my first curtain, and many more experiences. You will be welcomed, you will work hard, and you will have way more fun than you ever imagined.

Great, intimate setting in the small stage area

We have attended several plays at this theater and always enjoy the performances and the intimacy of this theater. We are always thoroughly entertained and have since purchased season tickets and brought other friends to the plays. Be aware that there is raw language used at times in some of the plays. So, if that bothers you were you intend on bringing children, be sure to ask before you purchase your tickets.

The play absolutely lived up to one of the lines spoken by a character in the play that I saw: "Fiction fills in the void when facts are not enough!" The theater's location is great and there's a parking garage right across the street, so parking is a total breeze. However the sidewalk is really beat up and broken, so if wearing heels or slippers, just be careful when walking across. We had "Will Call" tickets for a production of "Lettice & Lovage" but our name wasn't on the list, but luckily I could show the confirmation email to the ticket-office (which was basically a gentleman sitting behind a desk). I thought the production values of the show I saw were brilliant and really also enjoyed the intimate setting of the theater - only 5 rows and so every seat is a good one! Speaking of seats, this show was general admission, so would recommend getting to the theater around 15mins early if you want middle row/ central spot. Price was also fairly reasonable ($20) and all of us had an enjoyable time, plus learnt how marmalade got its name (google if you want to know more- it's a neat story and hint - if you speak French, there's a clue in the second part of the word!) They have some wine and drinks you can buy at intermission, but I am not a fan of the "Barefoot" brand, so didn't get any - also its just your basic Cab Sav Red/ and Semillon white, so if you want Shiraz or a Riesling, they don't have that available. Oh also - coupons for places to eat in the playbill, so have a flick thru that. There are some upcoming plays coming up that sound good - so will definitely be returning back to this Theater. I didn't even know this theater existed and just happened to stumble across a playbill posting in Starbucks. My family was asking for birthday gift ideas so I sent them a picture of the playbill, since I enjoy live theater AND Shakespeare! EVERYONE needs to catch this before they close it out! The talent in TNMTC is boundless. Acting. Singing. Musicianship. They do it all. It was a non-stop laugh fest. Thanks y'all for putting on such a great show and thanks to my wife and two girls for such a great gift!

Now in its 56th year, the studio prides itself on providing the highest quality dance education--Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, Modern and Hip Hop--as well as stage presence, acting and pageant preparation. Thanks to the combination of excellent training and Ms. Brown's emphasis on traditional values like hard work, dedication, team work, commitment and attention to detail, her students consistently win top awards in competitions, earn college dance scholarships and go on to perform professionally. While those accomplishments are impressive, perhaps the strongest testament to how special it is to "grow up" at Performing Arts is that former students bring their children (and grandchildren!) here to continue the tradition.
