They need help !! Not enough aids for the patients…read more Accidents waiting to happen! I have a friend who has a sister in there and the care quality is not good!

This is my second review. It has been 6 months since my…read moresister has been a resident here. I'm there everyday from 2:45 to 7:00pm. I had to buy a new mattress because the old one was severely stained. When replacing the mattress I saw that the frame was infested with spiders. I cleaned and eliminated all the spiders. Out side of my sisters room is an area with an umbrella and some chairs. The cushions are worn and weathered. The old mattress with others are leaning against the outside walls of the other residence. Not a pretty sight. They are covered with blue tarps. There is a Hugh lack of communication when you don't understand the aids who (some only speak Spanish). Some do speak English. I've used my translator app to translate this to them. Doesn't work apparently when this happens day in and day out. My sister becomes very upset when she isn't able to communicate same as anyone who you depend on for your support. I've hired two full time caregivers and I'm there 28 hours a week. So my review has accurate information. If no one is at the front desk to let you enter or exit you have to wait until someone comes. Last night my caregiver waited ten minutes before she entered the facility. You need a code to unlock the doors. The understaffing (3) employees to serve the needs of 39 residents give or take 2 or three is an impossible task. My sister developed a rash on her chest from a lack of showers. One of My caregivers noticed this and it is being taken care of by them. The towels that are used are worn out and should be replaced. From holes to torn ends. I always have to ask for them because they don't replace them after my sister has showered. The dinner meals are pasta based. Some fish with overcooked vegetables. And a scoop of white rice. Turkey or egg salad Sandwiches have been served multiple times for dinner with a glass of juice and water always given. The two ladies who do laundry for all the 39 residents also clean the hallway and the residents Rooms. Way to much for two people to do a good job. I feel for them. The Mercedes Benz van that sits out front of the place does just that. Sits. No one who works there full time can drive it!!. The maintenance man is there two days a week and he is the only one I ever saw drive it to renew the registration. So don't plan on doing any sightseeing. Or keeping a doctors appointment unless you have transportation. The only reason my sister is there because I've had to hire two full time caregivers as I stated earlier and I live close by. I've asked the Administrator to have the cable company come and find out why more than a few channels are not getting good signals. The maintenance person tried but still not good. The blinds in my sisters room are in need of replacement not repair which has been tried more times than I can count. (I even tried). Leaving no privacy when one or more are missing. I hope this review helps others to understand what they might experience when looking for a place for there Loved Ones Jon Mendicino

I can only…read moreimagine this is where the beautiful perfumes of the world come from, because the fragrance is intoxicatingly prevalent. In our case, we immediately were transfixed by it as soon as we exited my Benz to view these incredibly perfect roses. What a magnificent sight to behold and scents to inhale! Paths and walkways, all lined with gorgeous roses. The roses are a wonderful perk for each resident, who receives a rose bush as a gift. For some, it appears they have more than one...labeled with their name(s) on them. The practice of each resident receiving a rose bush began when a lady who loved roses, and was an avid gardener, thought it would be a nice idea, so she turned the wheels to set the practice in place. How cool is that!?! I learned of this from some of the residents, who are very active outside with their walkers. Many came outside on this beautiful day to enjoy it, get some exercise, and chat with people such as the likes of us along the way. This is a retirement community. Everyone we talked to was so nice. They were happy and appeared to be very well taken care of. They all spoke of how much they love where they live. I've taken pics of some of the glorious standouts, but I highly suggest you view this beauty firsthand during this particular time in the Spring. I can't speak for the inside of the residences themselves, as the only thing I learned was what I gleaned from their website listed here. The video shows a glorious ocean-view environment for the very lucky residents. Apparently, a 1 bedroom, 1-1/2 bath with 753 square feet rents for $7,325.00 per month. "This is the place", they say. If you are an aging billionaire living in La Jolla, California. Enjoy the roses I've snapped for you and all the other beautiful flowers at Casa de Manana. It is truly a marvel.

One year ago this month my now 88 year-old first cousin, a retired Navy veteran, asked me to come…read moreto LA Jolla to help him find a nursing home to live out his life. I made the trip from Colorado at once and found him needing not a nursing home but an assisted living facility whereby he could get daily assistance. Luckily his doctor agreed with me and I started the process. Fortunately he had a facility in mind as it was just across from his VFW club so we set up an appointment to view Ivy Park @ La Jolla. It was love at first sight for both him and me. We started the admission process and I returned home to take care of my own business and returned to La Jolla 2 weeks later. In just 10 days I arranged his moving from his nearby apartment which he maintained for 30 years to Ivy, bought furniture for hi new apartment at Ivy, processed all paperwork needed and got him moved in Ivy on July 24th. During the last year I have made 6 trips to see him and handle different physical and financial affairs over a period of 35 days total. During this time I have witnessed a remarkable physical and mental improvement in his overall well being. He has gained almost 30 pounds due to quality nourishment of 3 wonderful daily meals. In addition to the food, the overall atmosphere at Ivy, under the leadership of Meg and her team is awesome. Meg's door is always open, not hidden in a secluded private area, but right on the 1st floor behind the reception desk. She keeps her thumb on the pulse of everything at Ivy. Meg's management team is awesome - Medical, Dietary, Housekeeping, Admissions, Maintenance, Transportation and most of all the Activity Department. This team has allowed my cousin to truly THRIVE under their care. I never had a loved one in Assisted Living but several were in Nursing Homes including my Mother for 12 years along with several aunts and uncles. I am used to caring for loved ones in the twilight of their life and I can say that I have never ever witnessed the care and compassion that is prevalent 24-7 at Ivy. In closing it is definitely difficult at times handling a loved one's care from 900 miles away but Ivy Park makes it so much easier on me, a single 79 year old bachelor. When the time arrives that I need assistance with my life I would definitely consider Ivy Park for sure. What better endorsement - actually someone willing to move to California!!! God Bless everyone at Ivy Park! Mike Hoffman

Ivy Park (the company) could improve future transitions with better staffing preparedness. When Meg was hired and took over, everything improved almost overnight. She is a compassionate, knowledgeable leader who listens empathetically and followed up promptly on family questions and any concerns. She also actively engages within the larger community. I'm grateful she joined when she did. Dad loved his nurses and caregivers, and the feeling seemed mutual. The activities staff offered fun, engaging daily programs. He loved petting the pony when it came to visit. The chef prepared excellent meals with flavor and variety, and staff consistently followed special instructions, such as cutting food into smaller bites. We especially enjoyed the holiday family meals. Facilities team promptly addressed any issues that came up. Despite early ups and downs because of the ownership transition and adjusting to a new way of life, Dad was happy there--that mattered most. On his last full day, he pointed out his favorite caregivers and explained why he loved each one over dinner with me. When his time came, Ivy Park handled everything with exceptional sensitivity, professionalism, and compassion. It took me nearly two years to write this, but I'm grateful for Dad's time at Ivy Park now. They made a heartbreaking situation for him & his family far more bearable.
