This trail is the tale of 2 halves for me.
The first half - great
The second half - not so great
I started the trail in Gilkey, NC (Mile 0). The trailhead had ample parking & there were lots of other bikers & walkers - one of which warned me of a "big hill" near Mile 4. She was right, because the hill lasted through Mile 5!
The trail is almost 14 miles long. I rode it out & back for some great cardio.
The first 7 miles is rural & away from roads. There were several hilly sections and beautiful views. The second half is through some small towns - Ruth, Rutherfordton & Spindale. The trail is adjacent to a roadway & not as scenic.
I saw that sections in the towns get decorated for Christmas - it might be best to visit then! read more
