So to avoid early morning disappointment plan ahead. Fortunately Le Savio was located just around the corner from my Bed & Breakfast in the Madeleine District. Le Savio can be described as a fancy coffee shop, as the decor dictates, and the baristas are more cultured (if that makes any sense lol). If you know, you know;). French spoken here but if versed in the basics of "bonjour", "croissant", and "café latté" you need not worry. I arrive at 7:00am, hoping to get a bite before my first showing at the Louvre. Parisians already fill the counter, from blue collar to those in haute couture. I manage to find a seat at the end. My senses immediately pick up the rich aroma of freshly brewed French coffee and I notice a fresh basket of croissants. Ahhh. I order my "chocolat croissant" and "café latté" s'il te plaît. I'm in Heaven... In the end, I recommend Le Savio for those looking for exquisite coffee. It's not your traditional café per se and I'm led to believe that it really picks up for the lunch menu. The Espresso, based on my brother's opinion, was rich and well made (he's the avid coffee drinker). We took the Eclair and sandwiches to go so we had food on the train. From baguettes to croissants to sandwiches and various other parties I didn't know what to choose from. I settled on a chocolate croissant while my sister ordered the original. As drinks we ordered a hot chocolate and a espresso. On first bite I felt the heat from the croissants still radiating from it meaning they were made within the 30 minutes. With a crispy crust and a buttery interior I can safely say that this is the best croissant that I've ever tasted. The hot chocolate creamy but not overpoweringly sweet. The espresso was rich and not sour, all the characteristics of a great espresso. Prior to leaving since I'm a big piggy, we left with a ham and cheese baguette sandwich, a tomato and chicken panini, and two eclairs (One coffee and one chocolate) so we can later eat it on the train.
