I have been eating here for nearly 20 years and I have never had a bad meal yet. The meals are delivered piping hot, full of terrific flavours, and they certainly don't scrimp on ingredients or portions, as you will most likely be leaving with a doggy bag! Thien's restaurant has proven to be the worst dining experience I have ever had in Saskatoon. We ordered a $70 take out meal last night. We waited two hours for our meal to arrive. The ginger beef was so overcooked it was black. The rest of the meal was ice cold, including the wonton soup, shanghai noodles and vermicelli pork. We called the restaurant to voice our displeasure. We were told that we hadn't ordered from them. PARDON...the wife/manager (Ms.Vinh) tells me that I must have ordered my food from their downtown location. Not so I tell her. I live three blocks away from their 8th Street location and only order from there. Then she tells me that she has no copy of my bill and doesn't think I have ordered from there at all. I tell her that I gave her driver a card with my name and number along with instructions to have their manager call me. Soooo obviously I had ordered from there directly. I then tell her I have eaten there on several occasions and can't believe I am having to prove this nonsense. I explain that FURTHER to the two hour wait, cold/burnt food/proving my order was from there/their lack of a bill at their end, I have now wasted an hour on the phone discussing their poor service. She tells me she can make me another wonton soup. I explain that I no longer want anything from there. BY THIS TIME I'm steamed. I explain I want my money refunded. SHE SAID," why "you people" want everything for free? I can no give you money back." She tells me it was a busy time for them and she says she is going to bill the driver for the meal because HE brought it late. You've got to be kidding me...so I ask her for her husband's phone number...as he is owner. I called and he offered to make me a new ginger beef...lol. I told him I want a refund. He says he can't do this. I have decided the $70 is no longer an issue...the best I can do is ensure that everyone knows what kind of service/food they provide so the next person doesn't have to put up this this kind of fiasco. Thein 2. Original one is downtown, great location, great food, very generous portions lots of variety. Friendly staff, quick service. One of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Saskatoon. Recommend the shrimp cold salad rolls, any noodle bowl there food is always fresh and lots of flavour. read more

If you're looking for a place to give you a big bowl of something you for sure didn't order, go here. If you're looking for a place that you'll want to dine and dash, probably you should come here. If what you want is a delicious meal with Asian flare, go somewhere else. It wasn't all bad, the service was terrible. Good thing is there's a foggy fish tank in the entrance that surely host the catch of the day. My favorite part of this experience were the waving gold cats on the way out. But seriously, I'll never dine here again. How anyone can give this a five star review is beyond me. If you pull up, just go to the liquor store and forget you were ever there. read more

This review just relates to pick up orders during busy times. We have had 3 horrible experiences with pick up orders and the last one tonight was the worst. Here is the scenario that typically plays out: -Order pickup at 5:35, she tells me 35-40 minutes cause busy tonight -Show up 6:30 to give them extra 15 minutes, stand in line behind 3 others waiting to get their orders, 4-5 others sitting waiting for orders, some for one hour, nobody looks happy. -1 lady works the front to handle pick up, phone orders, dine in customers paying their bill and she runs to kitchen every few minutes with phone #'s trying to appease people who have been staring at her angrily to check on orders and assure them only a few more minutes -so by 6:41 I finally get to front of line only to find out that 65 minutes later my order is not ready -she goes to ring in my bill but I don't want to commit to pay, come back 30 minutes later and wait 5 minutes to get to front of line, she lets me know tried twice to call me (left office #) so order was likely sitting for 20 minutes but at least I didn't have to wait!! To Thien Vietnam: Why not have more than one person work front during busy times? How about taking phone off hook for new orders when busy, you have hard enough time handling existing orders, why make things worse Maybe have dine in clients pay their server at table to free up front for pick up only Why not give customers realistic wait/pick up times for their orders or over-estimate by 20 minutes, consult kitchen to see how long, etc In any event this will be LAST time we order for pickup, and I am sure there are many others who have had similar experiences that are saying same thing. Too bad cause food and prices are good, they are just not that smart with handling busy times. read more

If you are looking for cheap.. you've found it! Customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. Waited for twenty minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We were just about to get up and leave when someone approached the table.. biggest mistake me made.. was to stay. We placed our order.. first dish arrived quickly.. requested something to eat it with.. as our table was bare..also asked for water.. received the next dish appr. 10 mins.later..AGAIN asked for utensils, plates, water etc.. came back 5-10 mins with what we requested..and the last of our food. We began to eat.. one particular dish was horrible.. the chicken was tough and had a bad taste..we tried to get the attention of a waiter/waitress.. but was unsuccessful. When they did finally come around.. I stated that we refuse to eat the one dish... and explained why.. and he walked away. Another employee came around and asked if we wanted to pack our food.. I explained again, to her about the dish.. she walked away. I got up and went to ask for my bill.. and was told that they keep them at the till. We proceeded to the front to pay.. I had told the woman at the front that we did not eat the one dish.. and why.. and that I refuse to pay.. and she stated that once I approach the front.. I have to pay.. that I should have taken care of it at the table with my waiter. I explained that I had talked to two people.. BOTH had walked away on me. After our discussion.. a rather lengthy one, she agreed to not charge for the dish we clearly did not eat. They will never see my face in their pathetic establishment again. Wonderful experience. Staff seemed a little overwhelmed, but brought us water and ordered an app while we waited for our take-out order. Salad rolls were phenomenal. All our dishes came out fresh and steaming hot, and we're quite delicious. A great mix of Chinese and Vietnamese flavors. Prices were great, service was very friendly. Had really horrible food at this place. We didn't eat most of it. When I brought this to the staff's attention they were rude and dismissive and refused to provide any kind of reimbursement or apology. They claimed that there are no managers around, and I cannot contact them at any time. I've worked extensively in the hospitality business, and I recognize that they were busy. This does not excuse how rude they were when I tried to make a suggestion. All the rice noodles were old and soggy. The salad rolls were just iceberg and mushy rice noodles. The curry was bland and flavourless and came with more mushy rice noodles. They served a pot of tea for 5 people with one tea bag. Nothing legit about their green tea and they were slow to refill. I really do not recommend this place. It is nothing near real Vietnamese food and should be avoided at all cost. My families food was gross too and non of our plates were finished due to pure grossness. read more

Food is not only reasonably priced but so good. Staff is always pleasant and very welcoming. When ordering out they are very prompt. It's insanely busy during peak hours not only in the restaurant but orders to be picked up or heading out to hungry customers. Their spring rolls are to die for! read more

Got there just before 6 on a Sunday and the place was already busy, although I can't see why. The food is barely mediocre and the service is even worse. We ordered a bbq beef over vermicelli, a vegetable noodle dish, and the mushroom egg foo young. The bbq beef was really dry, and the mushroom egg foo young didn't even have mushroom in it. The waiter claimed that the mushroom was just cut very small - apparently so small that we couldn't even find any in the dish. Even getting this explanation took three tries, and the waiter bustled at us, saying, "Well you can speak to the owner about it." We agreed, saying that yes we would like to speak to the owner. He never sent the owner over. We finally realized this after waiting around for 10 minutes for someone to show up at our table, and the waiter in the meantime was doing his best to ignore us. Other customers were getting up from their tables and coming to the front to try to get service. We finally explained our dilemma to the cashier, who interrupted us mid-sentence by again insisting that that was the way they prepared the dish, without the advertised main ingredient. Genius marketing, folks. Definitely won't be going back here ever again. read more
