Great selection of used and new records. I found several OG punk and metal, lots of rock, pop, metal, jazz and blues!

Cool little local record store in Retro Row. I stopped in quickly on my way back to the car on a Thurs afternoon, and there were maybe half a dozen other people looking through the vinyl. It seemed to be a good mix of new titles, reissues, and used titles. There is everything from the more expensive collector reissues like the Boingo marble vinyl from Rubellan, to older basic titles in the bargain bin. They also have a couple of new arrival bins near the register, for regulars to check first thing. I saw some interesting items, including one early Cramps compilation I'd never seen before. I have the Boingo, so I don't need those, lol. I'll stop in again next time I'm nearby, and see what they have in the new arrivals. Staff was friendly, saying hi to customers as they come in and answering phone questions about special requests. Not a giant place, but quite a bit to flip through. Very cool record store on Retro Row on the corner of 4th and Junipero. The employees are super friendly and knowledgeable especially if you're new to the vinyl life. They have a pretty good collection of music but if you're into Rnb, Soul, Funk.. there's not many options but I was able to find some cool deals. The prices are pretty average for a record store but it's understandable as many of their records are not new. There are $1 bins in the front of the store as well. read more

This is by far one of my favorite vinyl record shops across all of Los Angeles County. They are very careful about their record selections. The guys that I have seen working here are super friendly... it's always fun to pick their brains and learn about new (and by new I mean old ones that never came across my radar) records. During COVID-19 cabin fever quarantine, I had the desire to buy from my favorite shops. While Third Eye Records has a few items like memorabilia and t-shirts, they did not have any online record sales. So I purchased some shirts on May 18. Got a text from a staff member that there were out of one item. They offered a different colored shirt or a refund. I declined the refund. They shipped the shirts out along with a cool sticker. So glad that I randomly stumbled upon this place. There was parking directly outside of the shops, it's metered parking. A great thing to note is if you're just doing a quick pop in the meter will give you 15 mins complimentary to park. I was greeted as I walked in. I love that this place is small and not overwhelming with the amount of records. Their music selection is super easy to navigate and very intentional. I loved every bit of this well organized storefront. Gary did himself proud. This spot boasts just as many new releases as it does throwbacks. The band merchandise haul for sale wound up being sizable too. The bargain section of the store should not be underestimated either. I found a few sleeper hits there. Not going to share which ones, but I did find a disco record going for about $12 on discogs that Gary let me have for $1. The funk gems were comparable too. Plenty of Ohio Players and old James Brown King 45s up for grabs. I enjoyed my trip to and from the register too. Gary presents as an affable and thoughtful music store manager. We talked quite a bit about about oldies, dance hits, and the vinyl record industry. He listened to a few of my anecdotes, and he threw a few Third Eye stickers in my bag. I believe I affixed one or two to a mysterious location in the LBC area. Others will discover them and end up at The Third Eye! read more

This is a great shop with an eclectic selection of records. I was visiting my daughter and her boyfriend in Long Beach and was happy they directed me to this store where I found some vintage records at a reasonable price and was also delighted to have two LPs shipped to my residence for a flat rate of $4.50. I discovered third eye back when they were up the street from their current location. From the first time I was there, they had a few rare metal albums. I always frequent fingerprints but now that third eye is close by, I make sure to visit them as well. It's a must. I've picked up a handful of good albums just this past month from third eye and I'm going back for more soon. They also have stickers, shirts and posters. read more

One of my favorite things to do is just walk over and pop in to search for some "new" old records. Can't beat the price and while some are definitely a bit "loved" I haven't had an issue with playing any of them. I've been going to Third Eye religiously for around 4 years now and I can say that its selection is one of the best in all of LA county. Their goth/new wave/post punk records are some of the best and most well priced I've ever seen in a brick and mortar and the owner is always willing to give you suggestions or just talk about music in general. I was visiting Long Beach and sought out a cool record store. This one checked all of the boxes. First of all it is on a great street full of vintage shops. My wife took the kids and looked around while I shopped. There were a ton of records that I could not find back home, and most were at very reasonable prices. I ended up getting about 12 records that I hauled back Indiana. I wish I had time to go through the $5 bins, but the kids were done! Very happy! read more

Pretty small store but with some cool, hard to find records. I appreciate their wide selection, but was delighted to see that they had a larger selection of punk/hardcore. Most places, it's either 100% punk/hardcore or a box tucked away in the back somewhere. It was desperately hot the day I was there. My only gripe is that some of the records came off as over priced. I recently acquired a record player. Did I wait so long because I knew it would be just another addiction I would be feeding into? Possibly. But oh well, I bit the bullet and finally got one. Now, I needed to add to my collection. I didn't want to get any records I have CD's of, which is pretty hard for me, but I had so much fun at this store. I am from San Diego, was just in LA for a show, so we stayed in Long Beach. We originally were supposed to go to a different store on the same street, but they sold records of new rockabilly artists, which is great and fun, but not what I was looking for. We decided to keep heading up the street and saw Third Eye. I am so glad we stopped in. It's a small store, sure, but it had so much great music. My favorite record I picked up was Elvis Costello. So good, already listened to it 4 times since Saturday evening. Every record store is going to have your standards, Elvis, Beatles, Johnny Cash....but this place had more of the punk music which is exactly what I was looking for. Not to mention the guy there was awesome. So nice, talked with us, helped us out with any question we had. If I lived in Long Beach I would be here all the time. When you're one of those dorky music aficionados seeking out obscure records like Can's Tago Mago, Smiths bootlegs, or just trying to reconnect with selections from Steely Dan's discography, Third Eye is a tiny little wonder shop. It's the stuff dreams are made of. The first time I visited Third Eye, I was actually hoping to find a copy of Ege Bamyasi (my favorite Can record), an uncommon beast despite recent reissues. As luck would have it, the first time I strolled into the shop it was staring at me, right out front. Could you ask for a better introduction to this fine establishment? Just on that first visit, I was blown away by Gary's (the owner's) eclectic selection. Though it might seem that Third Eye doesn't have a lot of records, even when comparing to the likes of Atomic Records or Soundsations just up the 405, the beauty of Third Eye Records is the simple layout, and you'll find fine rarities for better prices than just about anybody else--and in great shape! Other than the outstanding and affordable records, Third Eye boasts a collection of clever and cool t-shirts, badges, pins, posters, leftovers from the 90s VHS/DVD music doc era, and more. The outside might not seem like much, and depending on your taste in record stores the interior might not either, but take a look. It's well worth it, and the staff is always very friendly and down to earth (and always spinning peculiar records!). For me personally, this is a record store to call home. There is a sense of community within the shop itself, and even if you only stop by once in a while, you'll always feel welcomed as a friend. I've yet to find a better, more interesting record store that caters to my own eclectic taste. There are some of the finest record stores in the country down here in LA County, and Third Eye currently stands as my favorite. Amazing place. read more
