If you've lived in Long Beach for any length of time, you undoubtedly know of Fingerprints. After 30+ years, it is undoubtedly the largest music store in Long Beach, and one of the largest in SoCal. We were there for Record Store Day. Loved the special deals they offered that day and having the chance to listen to a few bands over the course of the day (and get some merch signed!). I think their old store was better for listening, since there was a clear area for the audience--in the current store, we were tucked between shelves of merchandise--but it still worked and we had no problem seeing or hearing the bands. I particularly enjoyed seeing Violet Grohl and her band that day. Dave Grohl was there, but as a member of the audience. It was fun rocking out with him to his daughter's tunes (even if he was a couple of rows away). Love the staff. Rand, one of the owners, in particular, is incredibly knowledgeable. He also does a great job of lining up events and bands. We had such a great day at Fingerprints! read more

I was there for the first time this past Saturday for the Violet Grohl show. The band was amazing. The reason I'm giving two stars is because there was no line control outside. Patrons were cutting in line and arguing and no one from the store was helping. Employees were told several times and they just didn't seem to care and nothing was said to anyone causing the disturbances. When I called today and told the person about what went on, I believe he said his name was Brandon, he said that people need to be better in line and not cut because they were really busy and did their best. I went there to have fun and not to fend off people cutting in line or arguing with each other. Also, the reason I gave two stars is because I ordered an album online from their store that was exclusive to Record Store Day and the order went through and my credit card was charged. I was very excited since that album was sold out everywhere. Two days later, I get an email from Fingerprints saying they are out of stock and canceled the order. When I called and asked, the explanation was the "count was off" and they sold more than they had. My experience with this store has not been good except for the actual concert that took place inside of it. He said sorry you had a bad experience and that was that. No offer to try to get me the album I ordered. I also had to ask when I'll get my credit card charge back. I'm still unclear about that. Look, I know this store is busy and especially right now because of Record Store Day but to let customers order actually go through and for two days let them think they're getting what's sold out everywhere just to tell them oh we made a mistake with the count, is just not good business. I have been meaning to stop by Fingerprints for quite some time and finally got around to it. I came in with a list of cds that I was going to buy and got them all! I spent a good while trying to find it in the store because it was in-stock online and one of the workers went to go find the cd for me, which I greatly appreciated! Fingerprints Music is one of the OG independent record shops in LB that has played a vital part in the SoCal music community. To get here, street parking will be your best bet and there is a good amount of it around the area. Inside, they have a pretty spacious setup with vinyls and CDs organized by genres and artists. They have an extensive selection compared to other local record shops. All of the staff here are very friendly and helpful. Records are priced fairly according to market price. I ended up copping some Gunna, Faye Webster, Mk.gee, and Chet Baker records that have been on my list and called it a day! read more

Long overdue review, but Fingersprints is an absolute gem and staple to the music community in Long Beach and Southern CA! I really appreciate how hard they work to ensure the fans can actually have a chance to buy special items such as signed vinyls. For the first time in my life, I was able to get a signed vinyl (Sabrina Carpenter Fruitcake) because they have a system where fans must answer a few basic trivia questions. I was worried I wouldn't be able to since I'm not good at trivia, but IMO the questions were very reasonable and they gave us a couple of chances. They do this to prevent resellers and I'm so appreciative for this, because I'm unable to beat the bots online. I also feel their products are very reasonably priced and they post promotions and events on their social media. No dedicated lot but found metered parking very easy across the street. Friendly staff. Prices are all over the place. I had a very disappointing experience at this event. The man handling the guest list, named Dan, yelled at me in front of multiple customers because I did not have a ticket for the signing. I completely understand that events require tickets and policies must be followed -- that was not the issue. My fiancé had purchased his own ln ticket and I was just attending to spend time. (was not expecting to get into signing) The issue was how the situation was handled. Being spoken to in a raised voice and embarrassed publicly was unnecessary and unprofessional. A simple explanation of the policy would have been more than enough. Customer service should always remain respectful, even when enforcing rules. I hope management addresses this so future guests are treated with courtesy. read more

Great selection and for the most part employees are awesome except there's this one white lady with black short hair who was working the register. She wasn't busy, but she was extremely rude extremely annoyed and not very helpful. She was rude, not just to me, but to another man who was just simply asking whether he needed to take off his backpack or show her his backpack because he says that some places required that, and she seemed so annoyed by that question brushed him off I was just waiting for her to roll her eyes. read more

Just the best place for vinyl, used CDs, used movies, and other collectibles in Long Beach. Nobody beats them! If you are lucky, you might get to attend one of their many amazing in-store performance and record release parties. Before the pandemic, we saw Violent Femmes, Dead Sara, Wolf Alice, and The Silversun Pickups. Typically, an album order is all you need to get inside. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and for how MASSIVE the store space is, the prices are really not that bad. I scored 3 CDs for $3.99 each and a full Season 2 of The Simpsons for $6.99. Incredible selection! Staff was very friendly, the vibe inside the shop was great and I love that they sell all types of physical media including vinyl, cds, movies, and some books. The dvd selection was very impressive. A bigger and better electronic section than many shops I've been to (I would give it 6 stars just for having an Amon Tobin section). New location, same great store. This review is long overdue for what is easily one of the best music stores in Southern California. There's a mix of cassettes, CDs, vinyl, and even DVDs for people wanting to something besides music. Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. No elitism or snobbiness based on your music preferences, just enjoyment of music and different genres. Fingerprints also gets a good number of signed releases from a wide variety of artists. I've gotten signed vinyl/CDs for artists like Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Megan Thee Stallion, and Lady Gaga. These were all at a reasonable price, too. Fingerprints also hosts a lot of cool events like signings, smaller shows, and listening parties. I live in Orange County and regularly make the trek to Fingerprints. read more

I came to fingerprints for the first time on the last day they were open at this location. There were so many records and it was bigger than I expected it to be. There was a pretty good record selection, as they had all the artists I wanted; but the records were pretty overpriced. The service was friendly and I appreciated that they let you enjoy browsing without being in your business. I thought it was cool that they had other memorabilia such as posters, videos and shirts, besides just records, I plan to be back here when they open their new location, but I would definitely pick and choose which record I get here, knowing the price. read more

Extremely disappointed and frankly disgusted by the shady practices at Fingerprints. I came in shortly after Record Store Day to pick up a record I had reserved. While at the counter, I noticed a copy of the Wicked RSD exclusive vinyl sitting there in full view. I'd been hunting that release, so my partner politely asked about it. The cashier quickly shut us down and claimed it wasn't for sale. He said the store received four copies: sold two, raffled one, and that the final one--again, sitting openly on the counter--wasn't available. Then came the kicker: he asked what the record was going for online and looked it up on Discogs in front of us. That's when the situation went from disappointing to blatantly unethical. Gatekeeping sought-after RSD releases, flaunting them in plain view, and checking their resale value in front of paying customers isn't just unprofessional, it's exploitative. It completely goes against the values Record Store Day is supposed to stand for, not price-watching and hoarding exclusives for backdoor deals or personal profit. This store clearly puts hype and resale value above fairness and customer respect. I won't be returning and I'd advise any serious collector to think twice. read more

Fingerprints is an immersive record store where you can find great gems. Small artist come here to perform & do signings for fans. There is a great vibe and definitely a selective amount of value. The service was nice. I asked to use the restroom before the show started and was able to use the record stores restroom. Only thing I would recommend is for the record store (stage) to be higher elevated for a better view for everyone seeing the artist perform. read more

Been coming here a couple of times over the past few years. The place has always been clean, pretty organized, and personally feels like it's huge for a downtown record spot. The staff has always been insanely welcoming and ready to help out. Have found some really good deals, more specifically with CD's. Last time I came here, both the cashiers at the front were sweet to talk to, especially the girl with the cool glasses, she was sweet and cracking jokes. Every time I visit, I am impressed with their huge selection, and they have an amazing amount of high quality used and new/remastered records. Whenever I go there, I usually end up buying a favorite album of mine that I eagerly want to add to my collection or picking up a record that just happened to catch my eye while I was flipping through the stacks. They have very knowledgeable employees, and when I've asked them for help in the past, they patiently directed me to where I could find what genre of music I was seeking. Nice music store with CDs, DVDs and records. You have to park/pay on the street, but it wasn't hard to find. They have a pretty good collection but I will admit it was hard to understand the order of things. Fingerprints takes the used record hustle seriously. I definitely appreciated digging through their singles bin, bargain bin, and used new arrivals--I realize that last phrase reads like an oxymoron. DO WHAT YOU WANT ABOUT IT. I will now succinctly touch on the selection. I saw a lot of great records during my last dig. The standout might have been a cover of Freak-a-holic by Brian Zilla Ellis. I have yet to see that record at any other store, and the Zilla man has done some quality work with Steve Arrington; in other words, I believe the musician is a smidgen unsung. I might or might not have stumbled upon a stash of great house and hip hip records, but who is keeping track? Rimshot. This place lives up to the buzz, honey. So rouse from your dusty hives. Up from that complacent living inside your hexacomb. Fly forth. Support this record store. This record spot is what the bees have been waxing poetic about. Been coming to fingerprints once or twice a year for a long time now. Definitely doesn't have the same magic it used to. I come just for the vinyl and it feels like 80 percent of the records they have now are brand new and overpriced. What happened to the tons of used vinyl? I don't come to a record store to buy brand new vinyl that I could buy online cheaper. The staff on the day I came also wasn't great. They say me waiting to check out (I was the only person in line) but they kept having a conversation instead of helping me and then rang me up so slowly while they continued to talk. Unfortunately this will probably be my last time coming here. It's no longer worth the drive and it's way too expensive. read more
