Not as many homes were lit up in 2025, whereas ALL homes were not only lit up but super decorated back then. Plus, I noticed a fair amount of homes either have walls or shrubs blocking the street views, and it just wasn't amazing as I recall from my youth. There were a few really cool homes, but only a few. There was one that I REALLY liked, but I couldn't capture a good picture of it, but that's on me. The rest were just okay.

Some were decked out in their own unique way--some super extravagant with lights and themed displays, while others keep it simple and sweet, or some don't do anything at all. For a while, the streets give off cozy holiday vibes as you stroll through, though the experience can get a little tricky since there are so many cars passing by with their headlights and bright lights shining right in your face. One house went way above and beyond by setting up a hot chocolate stand and even offering to take photos of families on their sleigh display out in their front yard. How cool is that! Another house had a history display about the history of Candy Cane Lane (dating back to 1951!), which was super eye-opening and made me appreciate the tradition even more. It's incredible that so many homes still participate in it despite all the challenges--busy traffic, LA County, trash, and even pop-up illegal vendors (you see several set up shop). However, you can feel a sense of community here. I especially can't help but applaud the efforts of the homes that take the time to bring this tradition to life. That said, I think this is only really worth it if you're in the area or passing by. If you're more than 30 minutes away, it will be underwhelming because not every house is fully decorated. Either way, my girlfriend and I were thrilled to have a quick holiday experience on a weekday night. We also brought our dog along and other dogs were also walking around too. Once it got darker in certain areas of the street, we decided to wrap it up and head out. Still, it was a lovely experience, and if you have 30 mins to spare, I'd definitely recommend checking it out even for a drive with Christmas music blasting!

The mantra to show "No Mercy" is to treat someone with extreme harshness which echoes outside of martial arts, that leaves a stain on the soul. John Krease is truly unhinged, but sensei-Lawrence has fight and heart and brought balance to the dojo in a powerful way - but his struggles as a former student turned karate master definitely lead him on a better path. Mixing a splash of Miyagi-Do (the rival dojo)... "when the fight comes to you, you have to be ready to fight back..."... Johnny Lawrence cares and wants you to excel to the best of your ability in all areas of life which is what a true sensei should be and demonstrate, because karate isn't just a form of self defense it's a way of life. And while I've walked away after the All Valley incident pre-2020 as have others... I will never forget Cobra Kai never dies.

What could be more cherished than a good 'ol Chrismas\Holiday parade? The Granada Hills Annual Holiday parade just celebrated it's 30th year making it the largest holiday parade in the San Fernando Valley. They do a nice job of doing several things well adding to the enjoyment for all to come see and experience. It's free! That's always a good thing and the length of the parade route is wide open for viewing. It heads though residential and a small "main st" of commercial store fronts mostly along Chatsworth Blvd. The ample length of the route means that parking in surrounding neighborhoods is relatively abundant and there is a decent level of police and parking enforcement to keep things organized. The parade runs for roughly 3 hours, this year starting at 1:30 and finishing around 3:45. They involve a very large cross section of the community with huge participation from high school marching bands, equestrian teams, girl and boy scouts, civic and religious groups, sports teams, seniors groups, dance teams, car clubs, floats and everthing in between.. There is a steady flow of parade activity and plenty of activity and fun for the whole family. The Granada Hills Chamber of commerce puts on the annual event and really does a great job, they are to be commended. Plenty of civic pride and volunteerism is on display as well. All in all a nice way to spend a few hours on a Sunday Funday getting in the Christmas spirit.

It definitely has it's 3 and 4 star moments as a city, but is a great melting pot of cultures and cuisines. Reseda Blvd alone offers an insanely spacious public park, vegan Chinese food (Garden Wok), ramen, pho in abundance, a great Denny's (the bad one is in NoHo... you know the one), Mexican, Thai, American, Peruvian, Greek, soooo much variety and of course tons of Fast Food. The best Vietnamese food (that happens to be 100% plant based) in Los Angeles via Vinh Loi Tofu off Sherman Way, an all inclusive lgbt+ bar/nightclub at C-frenz, a great music venue and sometimes dance spot at the V Lounge, some quality shops like the Tampa/Victory Blvd plaza with the best juice & acai bowl spot at Movita as well as a solid Dollar Tree, Starbucks, Party City, Sally's beauty Supply and misc others. I miss late nights out and trips to the Subway or Del Taco... both off Vanowen (still great quality, but Subway is not 24hrs anymore). The Salsa & Beer (technically in Lake Balboa)....is soooo good.... and they have real parking. If you need good car service or a great set of used tires in a pinch Reseda definitely has some of the best small business spots in SFV. Thank you Reseda Tires for coming through during my college years and even after! Public transportation is actually better than decent here as well... with routes running on all if not most West to Eastbound streets and vice versus... The LA Metro Rapid's are really efficient especially the 744 that passes through from Northridge to Van Nuys. The Orange line just on the outskirts of the city of Tarzana and Reseda is great and like most of LA parking is a mission, but Reseda definitely will surprise you depending on the time of day. I couldn't truly say where the heart or hub of Reseda is, but I think it has it's own comforts for each person, like a lot of the LA valley aka the SFV aka the 818.

Things to do: 2/5 Safety: 3/5 Cleanliness: 2/5 Bertrand Avenue Elementary: dancing (square dancing "Do-si-do", The Hustle, Popcorn), "Berger that's #47" (number of tardies and not have to stay after school like everyone else since I was the top student in the class). Ms Abbazia, Ms Bliss, Mr Burns, Ms Kacindas were my favorite teachers. Nestle Ave: it's the street where we owned a home. With a big grass frontyard and an enormous backyard, we owned 3 dogs (2 big; 1 small), and I had tremendous fun here. Eating outside under our covered patio, definitely where my foodie adventures started. We had a lot of kids on our block, but my favorite was the Mexican family down with 5 girls. No, not for that, but the dad drove the delivery truck for Mission Tortillas. When he came home, we would race to greet him, grab a fresh package of tortillas, warm them up on the stove, then eat them with butter and sugar. Reseda Park: "hit a duck" became the hit phrase started by my Mom. Why? One year, I set the record for little league homeruns, 23 in 12 games. Played 3 seasons here, and loved every moment. Reseda Roller rink: "All skate", "Backwards Skate", "Couples Skate" with dim lights and holding sweaty hands. I came every Friday night, and at least one other day or night per week. LOVED. Arby's: before my tastes refined, this was my favorite place to eat. Arby's Roast Beef, certainly, but Jamocha shakes, potato cakes, and horsey sauce all became common orders. Reseda Drive-In: still a drive-in here or there, but back in the day, very common. The fee, by the carload. Coming here with my parent's was one of the best family outings you can ask for. Newberry's/Thrifty: this was the start of years worth of baseball card collecting. Last, but not least, =============== Friends: I still keep in-contact with (Thanks Facebook!) and had a reunion of about 10 of us about 3 years ago. Chance, was my first childhood best friend (but he moved away to Mt. Shasta), and Anthony was my 5th-6th grade best friend. Now: ===== Don't find myself too often in the ol' hood. It feels old and a bit dirty, and offers nothing outstanding.
