A diamond that has been a part of our family since the late 1930s became a strangely discolored yellow color. Took it to my local jeweler who cleaned it and seemed puzzled that it didn't get rid of the yellow. He tried to tell me diamonds can't get discolored and implied it was always that way. But it hadn't always been that way. I searched for a gemologist to look at it to see what could have happened to cause the discoloration and was led to Thom Dumas Fine Jewelry. After looking at the stone in its mounting it was taken in the back and cleaned while I waited. It came back looking clear again and as good as new! I was so thrilled! I need to leave this review of Thom Duma...I sent my vintage Day-Date into the Rolex service center through Thom Duma. Normal procedure, right? Well Rolex informed Thom Duma that a link was not genuine Rolex and needed to be replaced or no service. I opted to replace the link based upon the assurance from Rolex that the non-original link would be returned along with the watch. Unfortunately, it was not. Thom Duma, in particular Sara had been working on the return of the link now for almost a month. I wanted the watch to wear to my son's wedding, but with the lack of the link, I couldn't wear it comfortably, especially when my wrist swelled from heat. Thom himself gave me his heirloom watch to wear, one handed down by his father to him. I was astonished by the attention to me as a customer and as a person. Who hears about service like that? I will exclusively use this business for all of my jewelry needs and you should as well. Let me preface this review by stating that I looked like a bum. When I walked into the store to pick up my vintage Rolex from being polished, I was wearing jeans and sneakers and looked like a complete and total bum. That being said... I still do not think the treatment I received was warranted. Living in a large cosmopolitan city like Los Angeles, I am used to plenty of attitude. I encounter it almost from the start of my day to the finish, from the first barista to a traffic foe flipping me off whilst taking that necessary left turn to my building. I love doing little chores and light shopping in my hometown of Warren, Ohio when I am home for the holidays. In fact, it gives me great pleasure to support the boutiques nestled near town square any way that I can. I did not, however, expect attitude at this level from any shop in downtown Warren.... and I have been to some of the finest shops in the world. I was eyed up and down immediately when I walked in, and when I asked a sales-clerk about my Rolex she looked aghast in confusion. She emerged with my timepiece and asked to see my I.D. I happily obliged. Upon closer inspection of the watch, it appeared that they did not polish the sides or undersides, almost as if the polisher did not bother to remove the strap. When I emphasized this point, the dark-haired salesgirl went back quickly to cavort with (I assumed) the polisher. She re-entered with an explanation that barely made sense: they could not polish it because it would compromise the crystal since it was an original polymer and not the newer sapphire... and yet, the sides that were polished were immediately near the crystal! The un-polished parts were the under-sides, nowhere near the crystal. While she escaped back again to plot her next lazy excuse with the polisher, I asked to see a manager. A grey haired man (the same that had stared at me up and down when I'd entered, and for the record not a manager) deigned from his majestic counter to entertain my plight, and retorted with complete confabulation peppered with technical terms as to why it possibly couldn't be done. I told him "look... you can try to intimidate me with all these fancy terms until I agree with you and pay for something I'm not satisfied with... but the fact is... it doesn't match." Catching him in his game, he embarassedly assured me he was not trying to baffle me into submission (a common tactic in many high-end stores in Beverly Hills). He offered me a bottle of water, I declined. He haughtily went on about the prongs of a ring and more esoteric details known only to a small coterie of jewelers. Eventually, my saviour (a thin Mediterranean-looking gal) emerged triumphantly. She was the actual manager. She was very friendly, and heard me out. She told me "one moment", and went in the back. Within a short time she re-emerged with my gold watch perfectly polished, unveiling it exactly how it should have been outright. She offered me a bottle of water: I accepted. As I left, the hoary-headed man threw me out a supercilious and false "Thank you Sir." I let him take that small victory, and left the place vowing never to return again. It goes to show I suppose that devils exist and thrive in both large, and small, places... and human nature in its grandest and lowest forms really does exist everywhere. ****APRIL 18th, 2018 Update: I came back into town and they fixed my gold chain for free, it was very nice of them. They even gave me a little baggy. They DEFINITELY have a tendency to throw shade, but as there are no other jewelers downtown Warren I gave them another chance. There is a friendly lady that works there that took care of me, brunette with shoulder-length hair... very down to earth. She even told me I could buy my next Rolex there and save sales tax, they can ship to California. I have added one star extra, brought up from 2 to 4 stars :-) read more

Today was the second new Rolex I bought from Thom Duma Jewelers. As before, the service and knowledge of the staff is top notch. One differentiation about this location is the down to earth staff that is easy and a pleasure to speak with. I brought in my dad today with me. He was looking for a hard to find watch and unfortunately it was not in stock. Unlike other dealers that we have visited before, Tom and Melanie spent a lot of time getting to know my father as well as his background and watch interest. I have been coming to Them Duma for many many years so naturally when I needed a custom piece of jewelry made there was no question as to who was going to design it. I had my old wedding band that I wanted to take apart to make a gift for my daughter's college graduation. We went down to the store and Jeff helped her with design ideas to give to the shop. Alexa wanted to make a dainty evil eye out of the diamonds. The process was longer than we expected. She changed the design 3 different times due to sizing, diamond placement, etc. The shop was VERY SLOW. We dropped the diamonds off at the end of May and didn't get finished product until Sept. 12th. This is not the end of the story however because Jeff was VERY helpful in getting the job done even when the shop was trying the delay getting the necklace to us for our graduation dinner. He knew that I was disappointed and they did everything possible to make things right. The finished product was absolutely STUNNING! Thom Duma is fantastic! My fiance and I went there for my engagement ring last year and just ordered our wedding bands for this fall. We were walking around downtown Warren last year and decided on a whim to stop in and look at rings since we both knew that getting engaged was a "when," not an "if." Even though we didn't have an appointment or anything, Diane was wonderful and did a great job of listening to what I had in mind, showing me different styles, etc. Later, she ended up helping my fiance create a gorgeous custom design that I continue to get compliments on. This time around, Lawrence helped us out (again, no appointment) and was just as great- he showed my fiance a number of different options for his band, explained the specifics of ordering a band to match my custom design, etc. My engagement ring had to be sent away to be used to make the wedding band, and after explaining that I needed it back fairly quickly to take engagement photos, Lawrence assured me that I would have it plenty of time. As it turned out, I got the ring back about a week before the deadline and Thom Duma is holding onto our wedding bands for safekeeping.
