Dr. Furness is a kind and compassionate yet thorough physician. He comes in and talks to you, the…read morepatient, immediately welcoming you to the office. After his initial consultation and evaluation, he then goes over solutions. Recently, I had belonged to a Medical Group where the doctor would immediately come in and go to the computer, spending less that 2 1/2 minutes of personal time with me as the patient. This became a regular routine, where after all the computer input had been done, then the exam would take place, usually in a rapid manner. The opposite is true of Dr. Furness. I would say his strength is he obviously does his homework before even coming through the door. He knows why you are there and is already prepared to offer options depending on the ailment. He is easily accessible through his office and/or online and is prompt to respond. The most important aspect and quality of Dr. Furness is that he treats his patient as an intelligent adult and listens to options or ideas that the patient has to offer. He is not a doctor who lives off his ego, rather he lives to fulfill his chosen path of healing.

His sense of humor helped ease our nerves when we received not-so-great news. When my husband passed away, Dr. Slater was there for me and my daughters to answer any questions we may have. Their office provided me with a kit to collect specimens at home. I read all the instructions carefully and sent in my kit to the lab. Two weeks later I ask if the results have come back and they leave me a message saying there was something wrong with my specimen (see photo of voicemail transcription) I immediately call the office, asking if I did anything wrong and they tell me that the specimen is expired which didn't make sense to me, so I call the lab where I sent the specimen to find out from them what went wrong and they tell me that HILL PARK MEDICAL provided me with an expired kit!!! I call Hill Park back and say, hi it was the kit you gave me that was expired, not my specimen, and ask if they can do anything to make it right, and they just say no, you didn't pay for this so what do you want. Honestly what would have made ALL THE DIFFERENCE here would have been if they would have called and said, "Hi, we're so sorry for our mistake! We made an error that is going to be very frustrating for you because you had to collect samples for three days and now you have to go through that again and wait two now weeks for results. We want to make this right with you..." But instead they acted like it was my fault the sample was bad and I had to find out on my own what happened. We did pay for an expensive office visit (through insurance) and I'm shocked they wouldn't check expiration dates.

I never write reviews but feel like this is necessary! Be…read morecautious!!! I had L5 S1 fusion surgery and after 10 months of complaining I insisted on another MRI. He told me I only needed some bone shaved away from my cage. Then two days later I saw he did not put anything in my chart notes, except "reviewed MRI, no findings, referred to pain management." I obviously saw a red flag so I saw a spine surgeon at Stanford and a neurosurgeon at UCSF, both told me the same thing. The cage he placed in me was not centered, it was off to the left and oversized!! Therefore it had been sitting on my nerve since I woke up in recovery and began complaining of nerve pain, which was not there prior to surgery. I had revision surgery and the surgeon had to shave the cage away from my nerve to half the size. Now I am currently working through recovery hoping my nerve will recover after the cage was compressing on it for over a year. Just sharing my story.... There are so many surgeons out there to choose from, get 2nd and 3rd opinions.
