When they ran 15 minutes late for my cleaning appt, I had no problem. However, when my child had an appt, they were over an hour behind. And not a single employee would have told me what's going on unless I was persistent and asked for follow ups. No one apologized. In fact the older woman at the front desk patient shamed us by saying we should have made a 1st thing in the morning or a Saturday appt. Um, say what? If I am an hour late to an appt, guess what? I have to pay a fine. But keep me waiting for an hour, it's my fault somehow. Not to mention my child had to miss the entire afternoon of school for no reason. Hey, I have an idea - why not try calling your patients that you know will be waiting over an hour and letting them know before they waste 2 hours of their time and miss school. Another suggestion - if you refuse to call and give patients a heads up on lengthy delays, how about when you notice patients sitting in your waiting room for over 15 minutes, take the initiative to find out the delay and let the patients know what's going on? And keep them updated. Emergencies happen. We get it. And understand. But it's how you handle the patients whose appointments are are affected by the emergency that matters. You give them notice, keep them updated, apologize and most of all don't patient shame as if it's their problem.

Dr. Storer is all about money. Looks at your mouth as potential profit. I had a chipped tooth…read more Previous dentist rebuilt the structure of the tooth and it was fine for years, Storer opted for the more expensive crown. He then proceeded to grind the tooth down to the point where there wasn't enough structure left to support the crown, the result being that it came out repeatedly over a 2 year or so period. So many times I can't even count. One time I came in, and it came out the same day. He told me when I returned, this time I'll do my due diligence. After realizing what he said, he tried to clean it up saying "I did due diligence yesterday too." And of course each time they billed insurance, and I had a copay. When I came in the final time to have it reset, it was still loose and I had an infection. He proceeded to accidentally pull my entire tooth as he was attempting to remove the attached crown. He was also after me the entire time as a patient to pull a tooth in the back of my mouth that wasn't bothering me at all. He is not a dentist I would ever trust again. The office is all about billing. When I first came to them, instead of the standard 4 quadrant x-rays of my mouth, they did an unheard of before 16 separate x-rays. It was done simply because my insurance allowed a one time charge for that x-ray procedure. This was done purely for billing in my opinion, as it made no practical difference. They are all about billing in this office, and Storer proved to be incompetent, and full of excuses. A horrible experience. I left with a gap in the front of my mouth and a flipper.

He goes through a full history of your health. He himself does the full dental exam, the x-rays, and the cleaning. He takes measurements of your teeth, gums, and jaw. He asks that you have any 3rd party offices call him to coordinate your care with them (I'm having orthodontic work, so this is what I'm talking about.) His assistant finishes with polishing your teeth. His office manager, Margaret, is very personable and helpful. She gave me detailed directions on how to get to the office, and they were perfect. I'm so impressed with Dr. Barlas! My only regret is that I didn't find him 35 years ago when I first moved to the Chicago-land area.
