I'm originally from Boston, so I frequented the BPL in Copley Square quite a bit. Since I moved around so much, I feel quite at home at Thayer Public Library. Staff are very accommodating and polite, and able to help with almost anything you need. Their media collection is massive compared to the BPL, and I simply just love it. The outdoor playground is a huge hit, and has everything a kid could want. The adult space upstairs has an absolutely incredible layout. There are many quiet study rooms and pods that can be reserved for use, as well as an impressive amount of individual workspaces that are designed in a way that they feel private and quiet. There are also community rooms in a range of sizes available for reservation - some holding 75+ people! We love coming here to study or work, and it is the perfect space to spend time with the kids in our lives! They also host community markets in their outdoor space, including live musicians! I can't recommend Tufts Library enough!

At my last visit, I spent most of my time in a side room where they hosted a children's storytime. Check the library calendar because they have some fun stuff coming up at the North Quincy branch - including mini golf with 2 different times for kids and adults. There's parking behind the library but we didn't know that and parked on the street.

I love the windows and the round design. It's small, but my 1.5 year old daughter enjoys being the only kid in the children's section so she can hog all the toys and board books. ;-) The only problem is despite signs that say otherwise it is disabled inaccessible. There is no curbcut from the parking lot for wheelchair users to be able to get to the ramp. The ramp itself isn't smooth and is a tripping hazard even for the ambulatory. The bathroom is not large enough to use with a wheelchair. I was able to role my stroller in, but it's a tight fit in the book stacks. If you have a child that's still in diapers, ask the librarian for a diaper pad to use before using the restroom. There is no changing table available.

I'm so disappointed, I barely even know what to write…read more I'm a huge presidential history "nerd". In fact, I'm reading a biography on each president in order. Visiting the Adamses birthplaces, their home at Peace Field and their final resting places has been on my "bucket list" for YEARS! In fact, I hope to visit every president's birthplace and final resting place. My wife and I spent the last week in Boston from San Antonio (planned the trip months in advance). Honestly, no - I didn't think to check when the homes would be open for tours; I just assumed a National Historic Park would be accessible more than just a handful of months per year (silly me!). When I found out we'd be there after the season ended - I called the park - and finally got someone on the phone. They were friendly, but dismissive. Bottom line: I traveled 2,000 miles to see some of the most historic places on earth and fulfill part of my "bucket list", only to find out the homes were closed and the park refused to entertain someone willing to pay for a private tour. The main office/visitor center/gift shop was disappointing. They did not have the T-shirt I wanted in my size, and I just felt the selection of keepsakes/mementos, in general, was lacking.

For starters the librarians are consistently helpful and top-notch. They go out of their way to help you find whatever it is you're looking for and to be available for assistance. The library building itself, while outwardly a bit dated in design, is light, airy and comfortable inside. Sign up for emails from the library on their website and you will hear about upcoming musical concerts, art exhibits, movie showings, the book club, lectures, readings by authors, and a host of other offerings. The library has its own gallery where you can regularly view all kinds of art. In addition to the books, the library has terrific DVD and CD collections. There is art work that you can borrow too and museum passes available. And all this is free! We're so lucky to have a great library system in general but the Hingham library is really something special. It's a great place to spend time.

They have some computers also in the center of second floor for public to use as well which is great for those who don't have personal comps. Quiet and packed when i stopped in. The lady had some work to do so i brought my laptop and found a powered work station and hopped on. Public WiFi so have your own security measures for your personal comps. WiFi, is serviceable though, managed to pull up what i needed for work and edit / execute without issue. Haven't tried playing much outside YouTube but that works with minimal buffer. Clean and open space with a lot of resources!

Staff here is very kind and helpful if you need help with anything. LOTS of parking here. They're open Monday-Wednesday 9am-9pm, Thursdays 1pm-9pm, Friday & Saturday 9am-5pm, & Sunday closed.

The librarians are wonderful, smart and resourceful. I never go downtown for anything or even to another branch when I order online and pick up there. When my children were younger we spent hours on the rug in the childrens section enjoying the best children's books before they could talk. I spent hours there writing my dissertation and still appreciate the encouragement and support I got from the staff. Special programs in the big add even more to this branch which is almost as a community center as a library for the Lower Mills and surrounding community. When we had to fight to keep it open, the neighborhood and local merchants were fighting for an invaluable and treasured community resource. We love the Boston Public Library Lower Mills Branch!
