No frills. Easy to get an appointment. The doc is very friendly, patient and diligent. Have been going to him for four years. The first time, I got the wrong prescription upon contacting Dr. Fong gave me an immediate appointment and tested and gave me a new prescription without any charge. I had an appointment and was there ahead of time. I was basically ignored as they took someone who arrived after I did, no explanation given. Dr. Fong walked by me a couple of times with no acknowledgement. I finally cancelled and left. read more

This optometrist is located in Costco but operates like an independent entity within Costco. Posting on behalf of my mother, she went in for an exam (she does not know English very well). She felt like her eye sight was deteriorating and wanted have a an eye exam. However, it didn't seem like it was a small issue with lens corrections. As a immigrant and non native English speaker, when things aren't as apparent and there could be a larger health issue, there needs to be patience for patients regardless of status. His bedside matter was extremely condescending and short. My initial thoughts are is that he doesn't want to "waste time" on people that may not understand his "elite" knowledge. I expect more from a doctor. Especially at an establishment like Costco. We will not be back and would rather pay more for better services that respect people regardless of "status". read more

I had a very pleasant experience getting my yearly eye exam done as a first time customer. I was able to get an appointment right away and the exam was prompt and comfortable. Both Dr.Fong and his helper were easy to talk to and very professional. I would definently recommend this place! read more

LOVE Dr. Fong! Have been a patient for a few years now and I cannot say enough about how grateful I am to him for his service, professionalism, and honest price points. He is kind and respectful during my yearly exam, he's always friendly and makes the experience easy. He is able to explain the medical realities, differences in contact lenses, changes in prescriptions, etc. always in a clear and relatable way. Prior to finding out about Dr. Fong I went to another wonderful optometrist, but their location was not convenient and their prices were much steeper, and with very limited eye insurance I had to pay so much more out of pocket. Dr. Fong is an exceptional doctor, he's been amazing and being able to order right outside his office at Costco is just the simplest and most affordable scenario! read more

He is RUDE! This optometrist is located at Costco in Woodland. I went with my mother who was there for a regular eye exam she understands English but to avoid any miscommunication I joined her to translate. As he started the exam I was translating everything as stated. His main questions were if the top row was clearer on the red or green side. When it came down to stating the smaller letters he wouldn't let her finish he would move on to the next portion of his exam. He seemed to be in a hurry as the appointment progressed he became extremely short and condescending stopped repositioned the machine so close to her eyes it was uncomfortable. I'm frustration he stopped and asked if she understood what was happening which was extremely rude. my mother told him her problem isn't with the top row it was with the smaller letters and he yelled and said I DONT CARE WHAT your problem is I have been here for 30 minutes! At that point I ended the visit and let him know i didn't know where the disconnect was as what he was asking was being answered he only continued to ask on the top rows which makes no sense. Looking at other reviews this seems to be a trend with him in mistreating patients who do not speak English. I will not be going back he is unprofessional, rude and inpatient as his attitude was completely uncalled. read more

Dr. Fong is wonderful. I have been getting my lenses in China for 3 years and my estimate has always been 3000 dollars per year due to the unique features of my eyes, but with his help, I'm able to save 2800 dollars every year. I can't imagine spending only 200 dollars per year for my vision. I highly recommend Dr. Fong. Also if you have never been to his clinic before, it's inside Costco. You only have to ask staff at the entrance and they will tell you the direction. read more

I have seen Dr. Fong for quite a few years. The cost for eye exams and contacts is actually less than if I subscribed to Optical Insurance. He has the routine down and seems up-to-date with technology etc. with new equipment and ways to assess vision. For being so busy with so many random customers, he still asks how life is and how my kids are which is a nice touch. read more

Wow. I had no idea that Vision could be so clear and Crisp!!!!! I came to Costco today after having a really rough day. Asked if they took my insurance, they did. I asked if I could get an appointment right away and just so happened that there 12:30 didn't show up ( lucky for me) he saw me right away. . . Let's rewind. I have been going to Kaiser since I was a kid for the most part. Have had my eyes checked so often I was sure I knew the drill. Not Today. He did the usual eye measurements but the exam was so thorough. He reminded me to not strain my eyes to see. I needed those. At the end he showed me my RX and my own eyes. Im pretty sure I screamed " OMG, I can see so clear" I know I did because my kids started laughing and they told me. They were patiently waiting in the waiting area. I could see so far. I can't wait to get my glasses and watch the world in 8K. read more

I've been to Dr. Fong twice. This is exactly the kind of service I'm looking for. Easy to get an appointment. No going from machine to machine to test for a condition that afflicts 0.00001% of the population. He checked my glasses, checked my eyes, and wrote me the prescription. No endless chit-chat. Perfect. I hated my previous Davis OD because after he was finished with me, I had to run the gauntlet of hard-sell salesman pushing me to get overpriced glasses. Dr. Fong's prescription can be filled right in Costco 5 seconds after the exam, or filled using the online vendor of your choice. Nobody cares. Fantastic. read more

I saw Dr. Fong for the first time today after being loyal to my Davis optometrist for 13 years. They got me in the day after I called for an appointment, were very positive and polite and accurately found the problem with my current prescription. The whole visit took about 30minutes, but I never felt rushed. The equipment there is much better than what my old eye Dr. had and I think that's how they managed to save so much time. I got the feeling they care a lot about quality and the health of my eyes. I would for sure come back next year and would highly recommend them! read more

He's excellent--possibly one of the best optometrists in the area. I have been to eye exams that charge twice as much and still don't even give as good of an exam. He is very thorough without being invasive. He was able to do my exam without any drops. He also uses very modern equipment in a highly effective manner. For example, he conducts the glaucoma test right on the autorefractor, so there's no need for drops. His manual refractor, which he will use to test your prescription, is also automated so that he doesn't have to waste time fiddling with knobs on an old-fashioned refractor. He spends any time saved conducting a very thorough test of your prescription until your perfect standard prescription is completely dialed in--I never felt rushed. Even if he's not on your insurance, his rates fall very close to out-of-network reimbursement rates on most carriers. Frankly, I'd still go to him even if I had to just pay out of pocket--he's that good. read more

I saw Dr Fong today. When I went to pay he told me it would be $70.00. I told him I thought it as $49.00 per the sign. He told me it was an extra $20.00 for the eye dilation, which he did not inform me of before dilating my eyes. He had plenty of opportunity to inform me. He asked if I wanted the dilation, "I said isn't that part of the exam?" He said it will show the health of your eye. Nothing about the extra cost. When I was paying him I told him he said nothing about the extra cost. He said sorry he should of told me. It did not seem sincere. Beware of this guy! read more

Before reading any further, please note that I LOVE COSTCO and their services. My gripe is with Dr. Fong. After getting an eye exam and waiting the couple weeks for my glasses, I noticed that my glasses were very blurry. The optical dept. checked the prescription and it was right on target. That meant that the prescription must have been incorrect. I ask to get another eye exam and Dr. Fong said fine let's do it. During the eye exam I was asked the standard questions, is this better or worse etc. The entire time I was rushed. During the exam, I couldn't tell Dr. Fong either way whether something was better or worse. I wanted to make sure I was giving him correct answers. In fact I finally said it looks blurry. It's at that point that he turned on the lights, noticed that the machine showing me the slides had finger prints all over them. No wonder everything was blurry. He said dammit, got pissy and we had to start over again. What Optometrist doesn't check his own equipment before starting an exam? To take an attitude with me, rushing me and making me feel that way was plain wrong. I'm the customer and should get rushed and made to feel bad simply because of lack of care of his own equipment. All in all, I got a new prescription was very different from the original. I waited another couple weeks and my new glasses have been great. Again, I love Costco and the optical dept staff at this Woodland location is awesome. However I do NOT recommend Dr. Fong. I'd rather get my eye exam elsewhere then bring my prescription in to Costco for my glasses. Remember, everything starts with your prescription. If the exam is done incorrectly then you're wasting your time and money. Don't ever go with a doctor who is rushing you and make sure that they clean their own equipment. read more
