There are few polite words one can find to describe Thompson Electric, their shoddy work, destruction to personal property with impunity, inability to show up, repeated lies and screaming from the owner. We will be formally reporting this deeply unsafe and fraudulent work to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and State Attorney General's Office. Thompson was hired to run one wire from breakers already installed for the purpose (Marked "Gate" as shown to the humans who arrived claiming to be electricians) to a gate. After weeks of tearing up our yard with an unguided ditch witch from a separate side of the house, thousands of dollars in irrigation damage, not showing for random weeks at a time or leaving equipment in our driveway without any communication, and tying into breakers already being used for a different purpose - this crew cobbled together a bunch of wire using wire ties that aren't even to code indoors let alone safe in a water. So...when the jumped wire got some water, you don't need to be an electrical engineer (tho I have been trained) to know it ain't gonna work. (P.S. Pictures to prove it). In fact, when Fred (thats the owner who calls and screams at you even when you're pleading for him to calm down) was made aware of this and the non-functioning electric we overpaid for, he said that we were "Monday morning quarterbacking" and when told their work wouldn't pass code (because he needed to be educated that water and electric don't work well together) he said that it *would* if they went out to our property and fixed that. Ummm...yes...maybe? Still, Fred says it's oir fault because...they didn't bid the project right? Bid seems sufficient, workmanship and general decency, not so much. And if their guys did what we paid them to do, perhaps we would have electric that works rather than a completely torn up yard, ongoing irrigation repairs, and out thousands of dollars without functioning electric lile we paid for. My husband hired these guys so when Fred or whoever comes on here to claim this isn't a real review 1. It's under Brian and 2. We have pictures. Lots of pictures, security footage, and documentation to present to the Department. Also, just look at how they harass any criticis. What a shameful way to run a business. To think that these guys are running electric in our schools (According to their website)?! I now know this "business" is on several major companies' no hire list in town for a reason, FYI. I'll update as Fred or one of his minions tries to discredit my GENEROUS review. STAY AWAY!!! P.S. Fred, got a quote for boring under a driveway - $15 per foot, not $15,000 as you screamed on the phone because your guys instead tried a hose on 20 years worth of tree roots for days. read more

Thompson did some underground electrical work for us - directional boring and some wiring. We had a great experience. No surprises, charged as quoted, done ahead of schedule. The owner was on site each day of the project, overseeing the workers. Very efficient. Tight, clean work. They weren't the lowest quote we got, but after one contractor was non-responsive, and another one had already messed up some electrical work, Thompson came in and did the job correctly. We got what we paid for. Very satisfied. I'd have them back. read more

I do not live in Jacksonville but the company I work for hired this company to do a job for us. They required a credit card on file - fine. All we asked was to troubleshoot & remedy an electrical problem, then send in the paperwork we require as proof they were there, since no one from our company is not onsite. This company did not fix the problem or send our paperwork in, but was quick to charge the credit card. Turns out they did not repair the problem but when asked to return to check on their own work, there would be an additional charge. My advice is do not hire this company unless you have some electrical knowledge AND you can be on site WITH them at all times. read more

Not a bad experience at first. However, when we had some concerns with the routine maintenance plan we were sold as well as some issues that we feel were overlooked by the technician, there was no resolution to the problem. Will not be using them again. read more

First, allow me to preface this by saying that prior to the debacle, Thompson Electric came out to my home twice. Once to install a full-house surge protector and another time to install a flood light in the back yard. Imagine my surprise when things took a turn for the worse on the third trip, which took place during the week of December 5th 2016. Below is the email that I sent to Thompson on December 12th -- it should paint the picture of what transpired ---------------------------- Good evening, Kiley. I had Thompson come out last week to perform the following tasks: 1) Add power receptacle 2) Mount flat screen television to wall. #1 is perfect. I have power. :) #2, unfortunately, didn't go so well. The television is, even with the naked eye, quite visibly not level. I've attached two images. 1) The level on the mount itself. The level is off. 2) The level on the television. The tv is off by a power of magnitude due to the mount being unlevel. I'd like to have someone come out and fix this...which will likely mean more large holes in the wall. Let's just have it lowered and this time...level ---------------------------- For your reference, here are the URLs to the two images that I attached to the email: 1) http://apocyber.net/thompson/onthetv.jpg 2) http://apocyber.net/thompson/onthewall.jpg I called Thompson on 12/21/2016 at approximately 2pm, and spoke to a manager. Now that I had him on the phone I was fully confident that he would send someone out to not only fix the mounting problem, but to give me a quote for the additional work that I needed performed. How wrong I was. :P The gentleman informed me that because it looked like it was level when the technician left, that it's not covered under the warranty. . .. ... ....and that was it. :) Even with the photos that clearly show that the mount on the wall isn't level. I told him to f*** it, and he ended the call (understandably so). I'll let you come to your own conclusions on who's right and who's wrong in this. I've posted the events as they transpired, and will leave it to the reader to determine whether or not they should give their business to Thompson. read more

Terrible service. We are a retail maintenance company and asked them to go out to a retail store and find out why the breakers keep tripping and turning their store lights off. Their tech went out. All he could say was their office was a mess and he found some wires that were not needed so he cut them off. They required Credit Card info up front, then did not do the service. The same problem kept going on the next day, and when we asked them to go back for the recall, they said they would not go back without a new credit charge call even though they did absolutely nothing. They charged $150 just to cut off some unused wires and take a picture. Not very skilled at all for troubleshooting. Maybe they can handle replacing a wall plug but not anything that requires real electrical repairs. read more

Thompson Electric came out to upgrade our power and run power to our workshop. They were very professional and got the job done in a timely manner. Everyone was very friendly and helpful... Jerry came out today " to tweak the job". We are extremely satisfied with their work. Just DON'T hire them. I had a major job a year ago, and their work turned out to be really sub-standard. They rushed through a job when I put four-wire in my home to go to solar. I've had electricians out four times to correct work. They put wires too close together in a junction box and they melted. Every breaker had to be tightened in my new panel box . Receptacles had to be changed out. I paid over six thousand dollars for this never ending nightmare.I had no heat during our first cold snap. My stove stopped working. Fit me in within a day to install a major fixture. The technician, Jerry, was polite, efficient, and clearly quite skilled. He even removed the old fixture and helped me pack it up, even pointing out features that would help with it's resale. Very fair price with fast, courteous service. This is a terrible company. They wired the electricity for my garbage disposal and but a hole in my dry wall where they put the switch. They refused to repair or pay for the repair to the dry wall. They also removed my dishwasher to run the wiring, and afterwards it didn't drain properly. When I set up a second appointment for them to check the dishwasher, they pulled it out, said there was nothing they did to break it and if it didn't work then it was a problem with the machine. They then charged me $95 just to tell me that!!! Called it a minimum service fee. They were rude and unprofessional. I would never use them again or ever refer them to anyone. read more

I have a rental house that is on a septic. I needed an outlet installed outside the house to plug the sump pump into. I called Thompson Electric and scheduled an apt for 9:00 Saturday morning. The electrician arrived at 9:15 and called me at 9:20 to give me the estimated of 669.00 and it would take FOUR hours. I agreed because of how long it was going to take. My tenant called me at 10:40 to say it was done and the electrician had already left. I immediately called him and asked if there would be an adjustment to the estimated because it took less than an hour and a half and he said no! He said we agreed on a price so that's what it is no matter how fast it was as done. This just doesn't seem right to me. I feel totally taken advantage of and completely misled. I would not recommend Thompson Electric to anyone. I posted this on Rant and Rave- Saint Augustine yesterday and I was asked to post this on swip swap sites to get the word out. *****UPDATE***** I spoke with the owner Fred Thompson of Thompson Electric today to see how we can work this out. First he said his guy was at the house for 4 hours because he has GPS (we know he didn't actually check the GPS because he was gone by 10:40). I told him how his guy lied and said he got there at 7:00 am when it was actually 9:15. His response was "he can say whatever he wants". When I told him I was going to update this site to the outcome of the call he said " we get 1,000 complaints like this a MONTH on sites online". He was not a nice person at all and had a raised voice the entire time. The electrician was with him and lying during the call (he told him I offered to drive to Jax and sit at the house so my tenant could leave since it would take so long- I never said that and he made it up on the spot today). Bottom line is if you need electrical work done DO NOT USE THOMPSON ELECTRIC unless you like paying triple what a job should cost and like to deal with dishonesty. Electrician was knowledgeable and friendly. There was mistake made on the billing and one light fixture was not properly installed. After reporting this to the office, I was told to call the owner. Mr. Thompson threatened me with another service charge for a return trip. He also raised his voice at me and said that I was wrong about the installation and refused to give me an itemized statement. Since the fixture won't turn off, I was sure that I was right. The original electrician returned and found the mistake. He offered money from his own pocket to cover the billing mistake. I called Thompson for a simple residential fix. The problem was missed diagnosed and when I called back to discuss my concern with the sales manager I was basically told tough luck. They wouldn't refund the $95 I paid telling me "that's what you pay just to see the front of the work truck." I wont use them again, not because of the refusal to refund my money but because of the way I was treated by their management. It was a very frustrating experience. read more

These people are awful! They require a 4 hour wait window. When I called 2 hours into it, they rudely told me they would call me when they were on their way. The person got there 15 minutes after the 4 hour window given. Was there 45 minutes, took down 4 light fixtures, found the problem to be an OUTLET, and we gave them the part to use to replace it. They did the work without quoting the price and they charged me $198. The tech said he would email the receipt, which he never did. I called back soon after he left to verify what the $198 covered because my fiancé (who was the one home) did not know if they did or did not charge their service fee of $95, the receptionist (Kylie is her name) was once again rude. Told me she would have to wait for the tech to come in and that she would call me the next day, which she never did. I had to take more of my time to call them again to ask for a copy of the receipt and was told that Mr. Thompson would call me back. Keep in mind I work so when he called back I could not take the call. I returned the call only to be told that there wasn't anything they could do, and he didn't think there was anything he could do to make me happy. He was condescending, rude and totally dismissive of any of my concerns about the way I was treated as a customer. He actually told me that he thinks arriving 15 minutes late should not have been an issue for me and that I have unrealistic expectations if I thought that was unacceptable. Really, Fred? Everyone has a choice in life and I will certainly not choose to do business with these awful people again. I would keep looking if you are considering using these people. read more
