Thompson used to be the best, and then the pandemic hit and they sold it. I needed a new opener and I wanted some thing that was technologically ahead so I could raise and lower the door if I was not home and monitor it on my iPhone - long and short the sales person (a lousy one at that) did not sell me what I wanted. He never even gave me a choice of openers, but I had been having so much trouble, I trusted his judgment. Big mistake. It's noisy and I don't have the technology that I wanted. I'm trying to get somebody out is not easy. My next-door neighbor had even a worse problem with them. The door is so loud going up and down. I'm shocked the neighbors are complaining.. I will be finding another garage door company. Sad because Thompson used to be the best ever. read more

My experience with this company is nearly opposite of the rave reviews by other customers. In fact, it was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had with any company ever. When the technician came out to perform the contracted work, they replaced the wrong garage door opener - even though it was clearly listed on the estimate which opener should be replaced and which should be repaired. Once my wife realized the problem, she immediately called the office (twice) to report the problem and ask that the situation be rectified. She was told that someone would call her back to let her know how it would be resolved. No one ever did. A few hours later, the original technician returned to my house without warning, berating my wife for not telling him to replace the wrong garage door. The technician was aggressively angry to the point that my wife did not feel safe in our own home, again with no warning that he was coming. He switched the new garage door opener to the correct side. He replaced the one he had mistakenly taken down but left the old one in shambles and non-functional. I called the office to express my dismay at how this employee had treated my wife and the overall service I received. First, the office manager blamed my wife for telling him to install the wrong opener. Not only is this not true, indicated that the correct work was clearly indicated on the order I signed. She said that the technician does not have that information (even thought it was clearly listed on the receipt the tech gave my wife), and they usually "rely on the homeowner" to tell them which to install. Nowhere in any of my communication did they indicated I needed to do so, and they rescheduled the original appointment at the last minute (when I was home and could have told the tech the right one to install). The office manager did indicate, however, that the techs behavior was clearly unacceptable and not indicative of the way they do business. She said that she couldn't deal with the situation at that moment, but promised a return call that afternoon with a proposal to help rectify the situation. That was over a week ago, and I've still heard nothing, despite calling back to the office in an attempt to follow up. I tried to give this company the benefit of the doubt, because I sensed they were dealing with some difficulties, but I'm done. I gave them multiple opportunities to make this situation right, and they have failed to do anything. I would give a serious second thought to using this company, despite all the glowing reviews. Not only did they not perform the work they were contracted to do (but took my money anyway), but they sent an angry man to my house without warning while my wife and children were home alone. If that's not your idea of acceptable customer service from a company, you should consider looking elsewhere. read more

Thompson was great - I definitely recommend! The price was very fair and the service and communication were excellent. While working on our new door, the installer noticed some issues with our garage frame and was very resourceful in cutting some additional pieces and repairing that before installing the new door. We paid almost $3000 to this company for a new garage door 2 1/2 years ago. The spring broke and I was quoted $375 for the repair, even though it was only 2 1/2 years old. The coil broke once over 22 years from my old wooden door. They told me maybe it was a defective coil, maybe not, but would not budge even an inch on charging me the full $200 charge for labor, which took 25 minutes to install, plus parts, shipping and tax. Plus when I got the final bill it was closer to $400! I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Even if they had offered to take $50 off the labor charge, it would have showed good faith and good customer service. Obviously, they don't care about that!! read more

This company upgraded my garage door opener. My old one was no longer up to safety code requirements. The job got done in a couple of hours, which included adding wiring for the new sensors. The new belt opener also has the latest WIFI tech. It is very quiet compared to my old clunker. Neighbors had the same work done and their no-name installers took two days. I have no idea why. This is a well-run family business. Good communication and prompt replies. They may not be the cheapest, but they deliver a professional level of service. read more

Buying a new garage door can be a big deal, since you really need to get the details and specs right when you order it! I looked around and got several estimates; I was impressed with Thompson from the start. They got me my estimate in one day -- and came out and measured my door the same day I asked for it, which had me wondering about all the other companies who took one week or more to get me estimates. The other major reason I selected Thompson was because their price was competitive. I wanted a CHI door (very high quality with the cedar wood front so it could be stained. I wanted to match the same stain to the wood posts on my porch and the front door). I had 2 CHI distributors come to measure and give me an estimate and Thompson's quote was $1k less than the other distributor for the same exact door! Thompson also helped me get a sample of the cedar wood so I could test out some stain colors first prior to staining the actual door. Called for a maintenance checkup, the lady was patient and kind, she gave him the history of the doors. The technician Brian arrived within the prearranged window, polite and professional. This company has the WORST customer service!! I should've known at the beginning when I had 2 perfectly working garage doors but they talked me into getting these replaced. I was only looking to have garage door openers installed. I specifically inquired about the warranty, they sent me some screen shots (not very professional), but I still went with it. They installed the doors July 2015. They then contacted me around June 2016 to let me know that it was due for maintenance, the email specifically said she believed that the maintenance had to be done to keep up with the warranty, so I had the maintenance done July 2016 ($100). Just this week, my boyfriend's garage door wouldn't open. So, I had to call and leave a message since it was off hours. Nobody contacted me to say anything about the fact that there would be a charge. The tech came out and realized that it was a "limit" issue, which apparently is a computer issue, the tech had to go into the garage opener unit and hit a button, so to speak, to change the limit. My bill was $125. I called, and spoke to Karen who was apparently the "owner". So, the maintenance is only for the doors (greasing the tracks and what not), which I didn't really need in the first place. And the motor, even though it says lifetime is only through the manufacturer. You basically have 90 days for any labor issues for the product that they install. Needless to say I'm extremely displeased with this company, more specifically the level of customer service. They do not care about their customers when they are invoicing you. I will say as a positive that the techs are great, they are quick and efficient at their job. That is the ONLY positive about this company. So much for the doors lasting 20 years..... read more
