There aren't as many seats (no double deckers), but they don't stop at Junction 6, drive a little bit faster, and only stop when someone has buzzed (good for those traveling from the town centre). UPDATE: I now have a different job and don't use the buses as often. The competitor to the Espress, the Oxford Tube, bought all new buses a couple of years ago, so the competition is intense. Between the two companies, this route is apparently one of the busiest bus routes in Europe.

It also doesn't make that irritating stop in the middle of the countryside, and Baker Street is much more convenient than Marble Arch for Bloomsbury/British Library. It has all the same stuff otherwise: power sockets, wifi, reclining seats. My only bugbear other than the inevitable unreliability of traffic is that twice I've been passed over at Baker Street because the coach filled up. A rare occurrence but a pretty galling one in bad weather!

Stagecoach buses are a very mixed lot in Oxford. Some services are excellent - frequent, on time,…read morewith knowledgeable drivers, convenient stops, and comfortable buses. Some are appallingly bad - old overloaded minibuses and tatty bigger buses, drivers who don't know the route/area/language, and habitually late trips. The pricing structure is not always logical or good value - particularly if you are travelling outside the city rather than just inside it. Passes, on the other hand, are good value and allow travel in a wide area for a proportionately low amount. Many buses are pushchair/wheelchair-friendly; it's a shame that the passengers often are not - and nor are a few drivers. It's worth noting the bus number and complaining if you get a bad experience, as a few drivers seem to think that driving away from a stop while frail/elderly passengers are still making their way down the bus is a good thing.

The morning busses are generally on time and the drivers are friendly and helpful. I particularly like that one of the journeys is run by a tube vehicle which is much more comfortable than a standard bus and at that time of the morning, its nice to curl up and have an extra forty minutes or so of sleep! The other busses, however are more than adequate and seem to be kept clean. Just wondering though, in the 21st century why they don't have seat belts yet? The evening bus journeys from 5pm onwards are late everyday and this is highly frustrating, I think someone tested these journeys on a sunday or a bank holiday! Do not rely on these to get you anywhere on time, it is okay for me since I am only traveling home.. Of course you expect there to be a lot of traffic at this time; so it would simply serve better to have a more realistic timetable. The 5.20 bus frequently turns up at closer to 6pm when it is supposed to have finished its journey by 6.15 The prices therefore seem a little steep when punctuality should be a given. A monthly pass is still cheaper than driving to Oxford everyday though and works out at half the cost it would be if you bough a bus ticket everyday.

Wasting fuel and, more to the point, ruining the atmosphere. Being able to park easily, and in this case, cheaply. Catch a bus, again with a bus pass for free, with a friendly driver to take you into the city and drop you off at preferred stops along the way. Then having a great time in Oxford knowing that you will be near a bus pick-up point to take you back to your car. Perfect in every way.

Sea Court Park and ride for Oxford city centre. Today, it was at 6pm, so make sure you use the bathroom at the brewery before coming here (yes of course my last stop was at the local brewery). Hop on hop off bus tickets sold here also; one of our favorite forms of transportation, we choose to walk today though. Nothing fancy here. Atmosphere - Food trucks, booths - Not sure if they are here 7 days a week...? But what a nice find. Got off the coach and walked into 30+ food trucks for breakfast/lunch! See pictures. Also saw a sign for covered night markets, see picture. This would have been cool to visit also. Service - N/A, self service. You can buy and pay for your bus ticket on the bus. Let me preface my review by saying that I've only tried this service once, as a tourist going on a…read moreday trip to Oxford from London. My comments below may not apply to what I imagine is the core of their business, the Oxford-London commuting run. I was going to Oxford to visit some family friends with my mother. My mother organized the trip, which was, of course, my first mistake. Never let your mother organize any part of your life: one minute you're living the high life in London and getting her to organize trips to Oxford, the next minute you're living in your parents' garage married to some family friend's comely daughter and wondering where it all went wrong. I personally thought the train would have been a better deal, but anyway, on the bus we went. Big mistake: instead of taking 1-1.5 hours to get to Oxford from Victoria station, it took more like 2-2.5. This was due to traffic (hardly surprising) and the fact that the bus took an absolute eternity to process passengers at each stop. On the way back, the bus broke down and we had to wait for a replacement bus to come by. This might have just been luck of the draw, but this bus route is highly competitive and I suspect market forces compel the bus operators to minimize costs as much as possible. Combine that with the fact they run 24 hours a day every 10 minutes and I'm sure you get quite a few breakdowns. And then there's the price: a day return was 16 pounds a person. I priced the London-Oxford train (which takes about an hour), and a day return was 20 pounds. If you have a network railcard (you do have a network railcard right?), this drops to 13.20. Sure, the bus has wifi and the train doesn't, but from my experience the wifi was very unreliable. I'd stay away from all bus services to Oxford unless you have a good reason not to.

TWO MAJOR ISSUES I and my family have encountered at one of your establishments. DISCRIMINATION - I am an Asian woman, born in the Philippines; but a naturalized American citizen for a few years now. I am traveling to England because my English husband who was born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon has a filming job here, for his journalism job. With us are our 8-month old baby and 3 year old toddler. And because I cannot handle both kids on my own, whilst running my production/tv show business in America, we asked my Filipino parents to join us. Last night, at Beefeater in Longwall, we tried to book a table for us (minus my English husband). We were three Asians + 2 children. And upon seeing us, the person at the reception simply (and rudely) told us that "We don't have a table for you here." I asked how we could eat, as we were also hotel guests; and his suggestion was to order at the bar, and collect the food and eat in our room. We had no choice so we queued up at the bar, to order. BUT.... I looked back and saw that the white folks behind us, party of four, were promptly seated at the restaurant. When I confronted the guy, he simply said there was no room for us! Why was there no room for us; yet there was room for a group of white folks? I asked to complain to the manager, And Peter (he said his name was) said he was the manager. I asked for his last name. He said he "didn't have to tell me that." Two other people in line for table with us saw the whole thing and told us that was unacceptable. And that as DISCRIMINATION. They are English, and gave me their business card, saying they were willing to act as witnesses of this case, should I need to escalate it. 2. FRAUD - We booked two nights at your facility; but decided we wanted to stay one more night, to give us a chance to explore the Cotswolds. Despite this experience, (and maybe naively so) my parents and I decided to extend our stay one more night, because it's an inconvenience to haul two little children + each of their stuff + my stuff + my parents' stuff, to a different hotel. So this morning, I tried to extend our stay and booked one more night. I was advised by Maria at the front desk that online rates are cheaper. So I did book online. But as I sent all my information, the system crashed and I got a "failed to complete" message. Naturally, since it said "failed to complete", I redid the whole process, causing me double the hassle. And that second try went through. But alas, when I cleared with the reception, I was told BOTH BOOKINGS WENT THROUGH. I called my credit card company, and was told there were two authorizations of the same booking. Your employees' solution was to give me the email for guest relations and told me "but we cannot guarantee a refund. That will be up to the discretion of the guest relations person who will receive your email." Do you think this is fair? Do you think we deserved to be discriminated against, just because we're Asians? Do you agree that your Beefeater restaurant would have no table available for an Asian family?
